The newsletter provides information to Kappa Delta sisters about upcoming events for the fall semester. It discusses that dues will be collected starting September 1st and payment plans are available by contacting the treasurer by August 15th. It also reviews rules around spirit week, including fines for tardiness, unexcused absences, and appropriate social media behavior. Additionally, it introduces a new Panhellenic Buddies program partnering with Pi Beta Phi and emphasizes the importance of positive panhellenic spirit. The chapter will also be hosting an LDC for spirit week and having an official visit from Nationals September 5-7th.

FALL SEMESTER IS ALMOST HERE!
Hello Ladies!
I hope everyone is experiencing a fun summer and enjoying her time off. However, sum-
mer is quickly coming to a close and before you know it Greek Move in Day (August 9th)
will be here! With all the laying out in the sun, Netflix, late summer nights, and hectic
summer days you may be a little fuzzy on what Alpha Psi has coming up this semester. So
to make sure that everyone is properly prepared, read this handy-dandy newsletter that
your council has worked so very hard on! This is also a great way to brush up on current
KD knowledge for when a PNM asks questions about our chapter.
This newsletter is awesome! It is filled with helpful information from the dos and don’ts
of spirit week to important dates of the semester and so much more. Basically, think of
this newsletter as a summer meeting but over paper (or PDF).
So take some time to read up and be ahead of the game when you step on campus! The
more knowledgeable you are about what is happening in the chapter, the better your KD
experience will be and the more you can focus on rocking this recruitment!

2. “If you believe that you will need to be on a payment plan this fall I will
need to know by August 15th …”
With the start of the semester the chapter is going to be getting their panhellenic spirit on!
Introducing: Panhellenic Buddies
I’m really excited to announce that our chapter is going to be starting a new program
called Panhellenic Buddies. Each Semester our chapter will partner with a different sorority
on campus and do activities to get to know each other better. I think we have an awesome
panhellenic community on campus and this is something we can do to make it even better.
This coming semester our panhellenic buddies will be the sisters of Pi Beta Phi! This semes-
ter we will have three meetups with Pi Phi, one of which will be a community service activity.
More information will be coming soon, I’m really excited about this and I hope you guys will
be too.
Panhellenic Spirit During Recruitment
One of the things that is really important during recruitment (really all the time) is to have
a positive panhellenic spirit. Especially while talking to a PNM during formal recruitment, on
campus, in class, at Starbucks, ANYWHERE. Once again, It is important to only speak
positively about other chapters. I think this is really one of our chapter’s strengths, that we
are respectful of other chapters and our fellow Greek sisters. It is also important that any
physical signs we make (car paint, bid day signs, etc) or social media posts are inclusive. It’s
totally ok to say you love Kappa Delta or Go Greek. However, it is a rush infraction to say
Rush Kappa Delta or Kappa Delta’s are #1. Obviously we all love KD the most, but it’s possi-
ble that the girl who sees your post or talks to you in class might not end up in our chapter
and everyone deserves to feel excited and happy about the chapter they will call Home.
Thanks for your help with this, I know we are going to knock recruitments socks off.
MONEY BUSINESS $$$
PANHELLENIC SPIRIT
As a new semester is starting, Kappa
Delta dues will be starting again. The first
bill will be sent on Sept 1st and due by
Sept 15th. I will be sending our an item-
ized list of dues for returning members
and for our fall new members by the be-
ginning of August. If you believe that you
will need to be on a payment plan this fall
I will need to know by August 15th to
work our a payment plan agreement. It is
very important that we work out the de-
tails of payment plans early. It is also im-
portant to communicate with me through-
out the semester if you are unable to make
your payments.
Another important reminder about
Spirit Week! Spirit week is an important
time for the chapter and it is very im-
portant not to have unexcused absences or
be late. If you are late and unexcused
(“late” is considered being 10 or more
minutes late without notifying Standards
beforehand) you will be fined $25. If you
have an unexcused absence you will be
fined $25 for each session you miss
(Morning/Afternoon) or $50 for the entire
day. Other fines for the rest of the semes-
ter include being fined for missing Sham-
rock and Initiation events. Please contact
me with any questions or concerns.
SMALL STEPS TO
SAVING MONEY
Always ask businesses about
their student discount.
Never go grocery shopping
hungry. You will end up
buying more than you need!
Put a limit on how many
times you can eat out for a
week/month.
Cook meals with friends!
Most meals don’t come in
single servings so sharing it
with a friend helps save
money for everyone.

3. OFFICIAL VISIT FROM NATIONALS
On September 5-7th, Alpha Psi is going to be receiving a visit from Nationals
for our official visit. While that may sound kind of scary and intimidating, there
is really nothing to worry about! Part of an official visit is sitting in the suite
with a member from Nationals and she will ask the chapter a series of questions
about Kappa Delta. These questions are similar to the ones asked on a New
Member Exam and are things we should know anyway. The more girls who
know their stuff, the better off our chapter will be for our oral group quiz. Baily
has uploaded a study guide to the Facebook group for everyone to look over
before the end of the summer. It can also be very beneficial to look at for re-
cruitment if a PNM ask questions about the general information of Kappa Del-
ta. To access the study guide, follow the instructions below.

We are also going be having a Leadership Development Consultant this year
for Spirit Week! For those of you who do not know, an LDC is a recently gradu-
ated Kappa Delta alumna who is hired by National Kappa Delta to travel the
country and assist KD chapters with their personal growth. This can be any-
thing from helping to create a stronger sisterhood to starting up new chapters.
Below are a few tips on proper behavior with an LDC in town.
Proper Behavior For an LDC
Always be respectful! She may be around our age but she is a member of
Nationals and deserves our highest respect
Never be late or talk out of term during an LDC workshop
Be on your best standards behavior (especially on social media)
If you take an LDC out for a meal, you are responsible for covering for her.
Make her feel welcomed! Just be our usual warm, friendly selves and she
will greatly appreciate our efforts in making her feel at home :)

4. THE DOS AND DON’TS OF
SPIRIT WEEK/RECRUITMENT
Below is a table run-through of the
dos and don’ts of Spirit Week and
Recruitment. Obviously you will want
to read the Recuitment Handbook
(also in the KD Facebook Group
Files) that was sent out at the begin-
ning of the summer, but this is a great
way to familiarize yourself with the
basics. Spirit Week and Recruitment
are a lot of work, and you will be ex-
hausted. It is also incredibly reward-
ing and you will create some of the
best college memories with your sis-
ters.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND
SPIRIT WEEK
As you may have noticed,
social media is strongly noted.
During Spirit Week and Re-
cruitment, Alexa and I will be
monitoring social media
(especially Twitter) very heav-
ily. During this two week peri-
od it is imperative that you
refrain from posting about
inappropriate or illegal activi-
ties (like underage drinking).
If you do post something
and do not remove it prompt-
ly after a request for it to be
removed, it will be considered
a standards issue and you will
meet with standards board.
Being called to Standards is a
HUGE deal. In the most ex-
treme cases, it can result in
your membership in Kappa
Delta being revoked.
Please do not take this
lightly. Social media has a
huge influence on girls,
whether you think it does or
not. Multiple incoming fresh-
man have told me that they
have been researching online
already. I am not trying to tell
anyone how to live their life,
but everyone needs to remem-
ber that you are not only rep-
resenting yourself, but a
group of 45 other women.
Represent us with pride and
by being classy.

Wiser, More Faithful, More Loving, and More Noble.”
Sending in excuses to standards is a pretty easy process. All you have to do is send an email
just to kdstandards@gmail.com with the reason at least 24 hours prior to the required event. If
you send in an excuse after the 24 hour deadline it will NOT be excused unless it is an emergen-
cy or you are sick. If you are unexcused from a required event you will go on attendance bad
standing for one month from the date you missed and for certain events (such as shamrock,
spirit week and recruitment) you will be fined. When you are on attendance bad standing or any
other type of bad standing you do not have a voice in meeting which means you can not vote or
talk. If we have any social event (dances or exchanges) you cannot go to those either. When you
send in an excuse I will contact you as soon as possible to let you know if you are excused or
not.
What counts as an excuse?
Class
Club meetings
Many sorority chapter on campus and
around the country are starting to adopt the
points system. The points system is a fairly
easy concept to understand and is a more fun
system to use than just fines. You receive
points for going to events and you don’t re-
ceive points for events you do not go to. You
can never get subtracted points. However, if
you miss a mandatory event (i.e. ritual, Sham-
rock, recruitment, etc.) then you still are hit
with a fine. It is required from National Kappa
Delta that we fine for missing required events.
Also, missing mandatory events still counts
toward Attendance Bad Standing.
You can get either 1, 2, or 3 points for an
event. 1 point for mandatory events (because
you already have to be there), and 2 or 3
points for non-mandatory. So the more non-
mandatory events you go to, the more points
you get! These points are tracked in the G.I.N.
system by the VP-Standards, so make sure
that you have your account up and running.
For people who have a lot of points at the end
of the semester, lets say about 80% of all
points possible, they will be recognized as be-
ing awesome sisters (and could win some priz-
es!)
So there you go! Being a KD is about sup-
porting your sisters and being the best sister
you can be. Showing up to events is one the
best ways to get to know girls in the chapter
and have fun, so think of this as an incentive
to get more involved!
The points system goes into the standing
rules, not the bylaws. The requirements may
also change to better fit the needs of the chap-
ter. If you would like to see the official copy
