The SMARCOS project aims to improve the usability of interconnected embedded systems by ensuring interoperability between systems. It will develop models of human-device interaction to predict and analyze usability issues and enhance design tools. The results will apply to embedded systems that interact with users, which is a substantial market, as well as integrated web services. The project seeks to improve context awareness, reduce "artificial stupidity", model combinations of devices and users, and improve embedded human-computer interaction. It involves 17 organizations across 7 countries over 3 years with a total investment of €13.5 million.
