2. What is Sorority?
A sorority is a national/international social organization for
undergraduate women to come together for the purposes of
personal enrichment, civic engagement, and sisterhood.
Sororities offer warm, caring atmospheres which encourage
individual development.
4. Benefits of Sorority
Membership
Philanthropy
Community service is an important aspect of Greek Life. Participation in
community service builds character through the realization of the needs of
others.
All sororities sponsor chosen philanthropies supported by collegiate and
alumni chapters.
They also participate in different service projects in the community and here
on the CSUF campus
Greeks have donated over $57,000 each year to Camp Titan, CSUF’s
philanthropy
5. Benefits of Sorority
Membership
Scholarship
A major goal of Greek life is to encourage and assist members in attaining
their academic potential.
Sorority Life strives to keep academics one of the main priorities by
encouraging good grades, studying and putting school first.
Greeks are offered many different scholarships through individual sororities
and the university.
Sororities offer opportunities to get help through tutoring and study groups.
As well, there is a Greek honor society, Order of Omega, that recognizes
sorority and fraternity men and women with excellence in scholarship.
6. Benefits of Sorority
Membership
Socials
With over 35,000 students on campus, sorority creates many opportunities to
help your daughter get to know other students on campus and well as find a
small community that helps a student adjust to the college life.
Many of your daughter's fondest college memories will be developed through
social interaction. Greek organizations provide the chance to make new friends
and have fun.
Sororities offer exchanges, retreats, All-Greek events, formals, and sisterhood
events to keep your daughter meeting new people at all times. As well, many
sororities have events that include parents such as Mother-Daughter & Father-
Daughter events.
7. Benefits of Sorority
Membership
Networking
Sorority life is not just during our collegiate years, but lasts a lifetime.
Being a part of a sorority can help your daughter find that perfect job when
she graduates. Our sororities have a strong relationship with their alumnae,
which give many opportunities for job placement after college life.
Once your daughter graduates, she can continue her service in her sorority.
Many groups have active alumni/graduate chapters providing opportunities for
continued involvement.

9. Time Commitment
The more your daughter puts into sorority life, the more she will get out
of it.
Weekly Monday (or in some cases Sunday) meetings are mandatory by
each chapter. These meetings are to let your daughter know what is
happening in the chapter, the activities during the upcoming weeks, and
any new news that might be important for the chapter to know.
Greek 101, Greek speakers, chapter retreats and sisterhood events are
also obligatory events.
Estimate about 3-6 hours per week, depending on events.
