Je Tsongkhapa was disturbed that Buddha Shakyamuni's pure teachings would become further corrupted without corrective action, so inspired by Atisha, Tsongkhapa initiated a renaissance of the pure teachings following the Kadhampa lineage, which emphasized dharma study, moral discipline, and profound practices that united the differences between sutra and tantra.
