The Role of the School Librarian: Providing Access to Resources Anywhere
1. While reading chapter three, a section stuck with me. The section called The Role of the School
Librarian, point #1 hit home. This point stated that current school librarians need to step up their game
and create access to their library and resources for students no matter where they are. My libraries are
old school. I have serious work to do. We may have adequate technology but I’m not providing my
students access from anywhere. They need to physically walk into our library to gain access to any
program or resource.
This week I’ve been in Missoula visiting my daughter. We went to the public library and I was blown
away! The last time I visited the Missoula Public Library Maddie was six years old. She is now a month
away from being 21. There have been a LOT of changes in this library. You can tell they have worked
hard to keep up with the times and technology and I was so happy to see this. This was so encouraging
and inspiring. This is something I would like to do in my little community of Eureka, Montana. I would
like to somehow partner up with our local public library and do some amazing things for and with our
community. I honestly don’t know where to begin though. How do I turn my library into a place that
students may access library resources from their home and is updated for the future student?
