Iguazu Falls is located on the border between Argentina and Brazil where the Iguazu River plunges over the edge of the Paraná Plateau into the Iguazu and Paraná Rivers. The magnificent array of waterfalls was first seen by a European explorer in 1541 and is now one of the most popular natural tourist destinations in South America, receiving many visitors each year. Iguazu Falls is compared to Victoria Falls in Southern Africa, which separates Zambia and Zimbabwe, though Iguazu is wider while Victoria has a single larger curtain of falling water.
