Sigtran M2PA Overview
Confidential
▪ M2PA Sigtran Protocol
▪ Used to terminate SS7 signaling over IP
▪Replaces TDM MTP2 link (64kbps)
▪ IP/Port instead of Trunk/Timeslot (E1/T1)
▪ Higher bandwidth – usually only one M2PA link is necessary
▪Runs on IP and SCTP
▪ Multiple streams with priority, compared with TCP
4. Sigtran M2PA Overview

▪ SSP mode: Used to terminate ISUP/SCCP signaling
▪ Media remains TDM

29. Troubleshooting tools
• Global Status from Web portal
• See if local IP interface is available
• See if M2PA link is up
• IP Connection test
• Connect SSH to unit
• telnet 172.31.1.1
• ping -B [Local_IP] [Remote_IP]
• For example: ping -B 192.168.101.160 192.168.101.181

30. Troubleshooting tools
• M2PA Signaling Trace
• Connect SSH to unit
• type “tbsigtrace”
• This will create a M2PA cap file, viewable with wireshark
• Get the file from the unit with sftp:
/lib/tb/toolpack/setup/12358/3.2/apps/tbsigtrace

32. TBReport
▪ Report includes
▪ Application logs for a specified time span
▪ Journal of host
▪ Snapshot of the telecom unit configuration and status
▪ Configuration backup
