My dream – I can already feel cutis anserine, yes… Goose Bumps are exactly what I am talking about. The simple reason
behind it is that MY dream is filled with emotions such as ‘fun and frolic’, with ‘fear’ as an icing on the cake.
Adventure implies thrill and excitement, risks and dangers, and the unexpected and extraordinary experiences.
I have always dreamt to go for the craziest adventures in the world and the movie “Zindagi Na MilegiDobaara” had
accentuated the desire to another league now.
Keeping in mind the budget and the time constraint, I have done a recent research on a few crazy adventurous sports in
and around SIBM, Lavale, Pune.
PARAGLIDING
To start with, I would want to go to ‘Om Shanti Paragliding’in Panchganiand complete the Basic Paragliding - Elementary
Course (P1). It is a 7-day course and the charges would be INR 35000, which includes complete stay along with food. The
charges are a rough estimate and are subject to changes as they charge INR 15,000 only per person, but that is subject to a
group of minimum seven persons.

Panchgani, apart from being a hill station that is located near Mahabaleshwar in Maharashtra, is the unofficial head
quarter of paragliding with some very beautiful flying sites in Bhilar, Khinger and near Tapola. Since it is located amidst five
hills, traveling around the place can be a little difficult. Only powerful vehicles can climb the slopes.
Local transport in Panchgani is mainly through tourist taxis and they can be hired on a daily basis. They cost around Rs 600
per day. This is a good option for visiting nearby areas. Jeeps are also available and they are ideal for climbing the steep
slopes. They cost around Rs 500 per day and are a good option for visiting some of the plantations in the area. Since, I am
there for seven days; I should not miss out on the sight-seeing of the adjoining places. Motor bikes may also be available
for hire; however they may not be a safe option for inexperienced riders. They cost between Rs 200 and Rs 300 per day.
Of the above options, I think I would like to use bikes and not jeeps or taxis as this would add more thrill to the trip.
Moving on to other parts of the dream, I have selected the below few sports as well that would thrill me and completely
cover the canvas of my dream.
Snorkelling – a placid dream
Blue water, golden sand, coral reefs, dolphins and abundance of endangered underwater animals sound like features of an
exotic destination in the Pacific Ocean but in reality just a few hours from Pune. ‘Malvan’ where the snorkelling sites have
been identified is approximately 400 Kms from Pune. Exact location - Tarkarli beach six kilometres from Malvan in
Sindhudurg District. In these snorkelling sites near Pune one can find natural treasure of marine life. The rock formations
here have maintained marine life and one can find corals, fishes and Sargassum forest under water.From Pune, the best
option is M.S.R.T.C (Maharashtra State Transport) bus from Pune - Malvan. Bus Timing 7:00 am (Express bus) and 8:00 pm
(Semi- luxury bus) every day from Pune. Fares are INR 300 for one side. This will be covered in the first weekend of
November, 2012, which is said to be the best time for the sport (as suggested by Puneri Travels – a knowledge/info
providing website for such sports.)
Almost all the resorts in Malvan have tie ups with snorkelling operators and a snorkelling trip can easily be
organized.Snorkelling only requires basic instructions and no formal training. This service is priced at Rs. 200-300 per
person, again depending on season.
River Rafting, Kolad
Next in my dream, I have river raftingon my list. River Rafting on Kundalika started a few years ago and now a year round
activity (Only rafting facility in India to be operational all-round the year). River Rafting at Kundalikariver in Kolad, is about
2 hrs drive from Pune. White Water Rafting in KundalikaKolad is controlled by the release of the Dam on the Kundalika
River and offers Grade II and Grade III rapids (Higher the Grade, higher the level of difficulty). This will be another
enthralling experience and would scare the daylight out of me with the release of the dam. This sport is priced at around
INR 600.

Rappelling
Next scary task at hand, chosen as another piece of the dream. Rappel down a 400 ft. high waterfall. Waterfall rappelling is
organized by Proboscis. Setting it over one weekend, this activity goes beyond just waterfall rappelling to include, other
team building games and simulation exercises. By completing this task, I would have a great comforting sense that I did
descend 400 ft. down a high waterfall, safe and sound, which I am assuming and praying at the same time for.
Valley Crossing
Spreading my arms, kicking off from the ledge and soaring cross the valley, Valley Crossing the final sport where one gets
perched, the valley floor is a 1000 ft. below, making the river seem like a tiny green serpent making its way between
mountain ranges.300 mts. to the next mountain, where the life awaits me.
