Shrek Forever After: The Final Chapter
1. Shrek Forever After, formerly known as Shrek 4, Shrek: The Final Chapter,
and previously titled Shrek Goes Fourth is an upcoming American 2010
animated film. It is planned to be released in cinemas May 21, 2010 in the US
and July 9, 2010 in the UK. Tim Sullivan will write the film, and Mike Mitchell
will direct it. The principal cast members will all reprise their roles. It will also
be released in 3-D and IMAX 3-D theaters. The plot was announced February
23, 2009.
This movie will be the final film in the Shrek series, following Shrek, Shrek 2
and Shrek the Third despite early allegations by filmmakers to make a fifth
film. Like the first three Shrek films, the movie will be significantly based on
fairy tale themes.
Shrek (Mike Myers) has become a domesticated family man. Instead of
scaring villagers away as he used to, Shrek agrees to autograph pitchforks.
Longing for the days when he felt like a "real ogre", Shrek is tricked into
signing a pact with the smooth-talking deal maker, Rumpelstiltskin (Walt
Dohrn). Shrek couldn't resist the offer; all he wanted was a day off to relax,
and Rumpy had a pretty good deal – all Shrek had to give him to get a day off
was a day from his own life. Unfortunately the day that Rumpy decided to take
out of Shrek's life was the day that he was born, meaning that, since Shrek
was never born, he never existed. Shrek finds himself in a twisted, alternate
version of Far Far Away, where Rumpy has now ascended to king, ogres are
hunted, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) is an intellectual who has never met Shrek
and fears him, Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) is still alive, Puss (Antonio
Banderas) is fat and lazy and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) is a hunting ogre and the
leader of a bunch of other hunting ogres. Now, it's up to Shrek find a loophole
in the contract to undo all of Rumpelstiltskin's mischief in the hopes of saving
his friends, restoring his world, and reclaiming his One True Love and family,
all within twenty-four hours or he'll disappear forever.
