The short-finned Mako Shark is currently at risk of overfishing and is listed as a vulnerable species. It is often caught unintentionally through bycatch or targeted for its fins to make shark fin soup. A model was created to examine the short-finned Mako Shark population and determine sustainable fishing limits based on factors like mortality rates, spawning stock biomass, and biological aspects like longevity, maturity, and fecundity. The results of the model and potential management strategies are examined to help protect the vulnerable short-finned Mako Shark population.
