Summary Of Dusting By Julia Alvarez
Children tend to dream. Whether dreaming to fly to the moon, or being heroes, kids are always
dreaming. The poem Dusting , by Julia Alvarez embodies a young girls desire to dream. The young
narrator in Dusting believes that her mother had achieved as much as anyone else but that her
mother s achievements are almost unrecognized by her. The young girl cannot stand the thought of
ending up like her mother, so day after day, she continues to leave her mark within the dust. The
word dusting, means to remove the dust from the surface of something by wiping or brushing it.
The word dusting in the poem actually means that the young girl in the poem, wants to be different
from her mother. The young girl wants to erase her mother s accomplishments,

Analysis Of Blue-Collar Billiance By Mike Rose
One might argue that without formal education a person has low intelligence. Some people
might say that blue collar work is for the uneducated or for the lower class society. Both of these
opinions are challenged in Mike Rose`s writing Blue Collar Brilliance. Rose uses multiple
rhetorical methods within is reading to prove that blue collar work is not for unintelligent
workers. Rose reflects on his childhood and early adult hood with many references. Rose also uses
many different tones throughout the duration of Blue Collar Brilliance. Rose uses strong evidence
to clearly show his opinion of blue collar work.
Rose uses References through out the reading to prove his claim of blue collar brilliance. He
explains multiple situations he has been through growing up in a blue collar family. Rose writes
about his memories of watching his mother work as a waitress in a restaurant. He explains the
skills and work ethic he watched his mother learn over the years. Rose states, A waitress acquires
knowledge and intuition about the ways and the rhythms of the restaurant business. Waiting on
seven to nine tables, each with two to six customers, Rosie devised memory strategies so that she
could remember who ordered what (274). The uncle of Rose is also used as a reference in Blue
Collar Brilliance. Rose recalls his Uncle Joe explaining that working in the factory could teach him
what school could not. Rose explains that his uncle: initiated the redesign of the nozzle on a paint

chapter organized as follows.
Using Entity Framework o Creating a data model from existing database
Creating Web API using Visual Studio o Working with JSON Object in ASP.NET MVC using
Angular
Using Angular JS with ASP.NET MVC o Sending and Receiving JSON Object to Angular JS
Using Entity Framework
ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), in .Net framework ADO.Net is a set of classes to expose the data
access services for .Net framework developer. ADO.Net contains the set of components to create
distribution and data sharing applications. Using ADO.Net we can create front end database clients
and data access layer to use by the application. ADO.Net frequently used the application developer
to access database in relational database systems such as SQL, Oracle and so on.
ADO.Net is very powerful framework to use for accessing data. It has been in the market since
many years. ADO.Net Entity Framework is an enhancement to traditional ADO.Net, which enable
developer to develop data access application by using a conceptual data model instead of directly
connecting to the relational database. With Entity Frameworks, the amount of code and the
maintenance required for data oriented application significantly will be

Manufacturing Of Wooden Shoes And Aprons
Manufacturing Dutch wooden shoes and aprons
Stacie Hart
Trine University
Introduction
Mass manufacturing entails the production of products in large quantities and it s the advantages
that come with such kind of production that makes it attractive to many manufacturing companies
(Libralato et al., 2012). One of the advantages of mass production is that all equipment, material and
labor required are located under the same roof. Mass manufacturing is profound in various
industries including the automobile industry, textile industry, and telecommunication industry
among others (Qiao et al., 2006).
This essay will delve on mass manufacturing of Dutch wooden shoes and aprons including
presentation of budget estimates where applicable. An in depth analysis was conducted on existing
literature on the same in order to understand the traditional process of manufacturing these products
followed by an analysis of some recent literature explaining the modernized process of
manufacturing these products. In addition to that, the review of these literatures helped in
understanding how the use of these products has evolved over the years.
1st division: Wooden shoe manufacturing
The wooden Dutch clogs were water proof, which made them very useful while working in
marshy fields. Besides being used in fields while working, some of the wooden shoes were made
to look colorful so that they could be used to attend occasions and even go to church. With
industrialization, however,

The Cause of Globalization
Garrett / CAUSES OF GLOBALIZATION COMPARATIVE POLITICAL STUDIES / August
September 2000 The most important causes of globalization differ among the three major
components of international market integration: trade, multinational production, and international
finance. The information technology revolution has made it very difficult for governments to
control cross border capital movements, even if they have political incentives to do so.
Governments can still restrict the multinationalization of production, but they have increasingly
chosen to liberalize because of the macroeconomic benefits. Although the one time Ricardian gains
from freer trade are clear, whether trade is good for growth in the medium term is less certain. In
the case of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What are the causal relationships among these three trends? The second perspective, technological
determinism, contends that the shrinkage of time and space has been so dramatic and so pervasive
that there is essentially nothing that can be done to stop it. According to this view, technological
changes have propelled international economic activity, and governments have been largely
irrelevant. Thus, policy liberalization should be understood as governments acknowledging the
futility of trying to resist globalization, rather than acting as a prime mover behind market
integration. Management gurus such as Ohmae (1995) have propounded this view, and political
scientists such as Rosecrance (1999) and Strange (1998) use it as the starting point of their
analyses. The case for a technologically determined view of globalization is far stronger with
respect to international finance than to multinational production or trade. In the era of 24 hour
global trading in a seemingly limitless array of financial instruments, governments can only hope
marginally to influence control cross border liquid capital movements. In contrast, though 2. See

Neo-Keynesian Economics Summary
John Maynard Keynes (1883 1946) is a British economist who is the founder of Keynesian
economics and the father of modern macroeconomics. He published his foundational book: The
General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, in 1936 less than a decade after the great
depression of 1929. His theories were largely in contrast with classical economics. Between the
1970s and the 1990s, more economists reviewed the Keynesian economicsand proposed some
changes, they are known as the New Keynesian economics or Neo Keynesian. James Tobin,
Gregory Mankiw, and David Romer developed the foundations of Neo Keynesian (Greenlaw, n.d).

Scout Meeting Narrative
It was early September, the beginning of the fall season. The scorching summer sun had long
been gone and the golden maple leaves had already begun to tumble to the ground. A crisp chill
strikes the evening with a faint tap as I exit my mom s shimmering silver minivan and make my
way into the all too familiar elementary school. It was only a couple days before when my good
friend, Chloe, met me outside of our conjoined classrooms to suggest I attend a girl scout meeting.
At the time, I absolutely dreaded meeting new people. I was quite shy and avoided human
interaction as best as possible, with the exception of the people whom I already knew before hand
and was comfortable conversing with them during the 30 minute recesses. It ll be a lot of fun, she...

night was reading another R.L. Stine book. Yet, here I was in the airless wind, with my mother
walking close behind, about to enter Central Elementary School for the second time today. Without
the usual sea of students crowding the halls, the school felt empty and barren. Voices could be

Third Noble Truth In Hinduism
The Third Noble Truth is explains that a Hindu believer does not have to stay in that unsatisfactory
state that there were in during the third truth. The path of liberation is one stage that the believer
has to admit that life is awful and life has desire. The goal of this stage is let go of the desires that
was being held on to during the tanha stage and realizing that there is so much more to gain in the
Hinduism faith, such as seeing Buddha face again in Heaven where he now resides. Working hard
during the liberation stage and not giving up leads to the renunciation stage. Renunciation occurs
when pressure of life begins to turn for the worst and the thought of giving happens. The believer
should contemplate, investigate, and determine how

An Exploration Of An Apparel Manufacturer Sme Brand
I. Working Title:
An exploration of the tangible and intangible building blocks of branding in relation to an apparel
manufacturer SME brand in the U.S.
II. Context and Rationale Evidence of Preliminary Review of Literature
In the context of small to medium enterprises, statistics show that about half of new businesses
fail within five years (Anderson 2014). The reasons for why new businesses fail have been a
number of reasons. Some of them are due to high interest rates, taxes, and lack of bank lending
(Anderson 2014). In the UK sector, it has been noted that the chances of a new business from
flourishing is even harder than before the financial crisis (Anderson 2014). With the countless
amount of reasons for why SMEs do not prosper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there has been branding research that was presented by Aaker and Keller, many SMEs, in
the apparel manufacturer brand segment, are not aware of these principles.
There are two ways in which brands can represent themselves. They are manufacturer brand or
own brand. Manufacturer brand is based upon the idea that a manufacturer of a product sells the
product under it s own name. Own label brand is when the private label brand is not the producer
of the product, but is bought from a manufacturer and sold by the brand at a cheaper price. In
terms of manufacturer brands in SME brand strategy, there is much competition with own brand
labels in terms of market share (Oubinam Rubio, and Yague 2006). With the competition of own
brand label and corporate companies taking market share, there is much fascinating research to be
done on brand equity of a company in the SME s perspective.
Justification of Study
Gap and area in need of further research
There has been little research on brand equity in SME apparel brands. It is easier to research
brand strategy on a corporate company that is already successful, and so little knowledge is added
on emerging companies or SMEs who are struggling to stay competitive in the fashion apparel
industry. This research would add knowledge to the best SME s brand strategy in the young women
s contemporary market. The value of corporate branding

Analysis of Germinal Essays
Germinal, based on the landmark novel by Emile Zola, presents a startlingly authentic and powerful
look into the tumultuous, tragedy riddled lives of 19th century French coal miners. Forced to
endure hellish conditions, risk death and dismemberment, and work from before dawn until after
dusk, these men and women had only one alternative to mining: starvation. Germinal is not a happy
story, but it is impossible not to sense the realism that pervades the project.
The film opens with the arrival of Etienne Lantier (Renaud) at the Voreux coalmine. An out of
work machinist, Etienne is willing to do almost anything to make money, including descending into
the pit and taking pick axe to coal. He is befriended by Maheu (Gerard Depardieu), ... Show more

As a strike looms, one such woman hopes that this unfortunate turn of events won t disrupt her
plans for a lunch party.
Berri s indictment of plight of the miners is at once simple and moving. While Zola s impassioned
cry for social reform is at the heart of Germinal, the interactions of the individual characters
represent the picture s soul, and lift it above other movies with similar messages.
There is the unconditional love of one man, Maheu, for his family, and the sacrifices he must
endure for them. Maheu is a hard worker, and in his heart he believes in the innate goodness of
man. He cannot accept, for example, that soldiers brought in to defend the mine would fire on their
own countrymen.
Germinal, which cost $30 million to make, is a lavish production, and it s clear that the money was
well spent. The scenes in the mine are remarkable in conveying the desperate circumstances
confronting the characters. How many members of the audience experienced an irrational desire to
wash away the accumulating coal dust from their own skin?
Aided in no small part by an exemplary cast, Claude Berri has brought to the screen a masterpiece,
interweaving personal tragedy and social upheaval against the background of a way of life that
would not yield easily to change. There is much that is right about Germinal, and very little that

changed lots of lives. He invented what was is called a cottonspinning mill. This mill was
amazing. It had increased the amount of spun cotton by an overwhelming amount. But what
really caught my attention was that it did not need a skilled laborer, which fit me perfectly. In mid
1789, I worked my way to Cromford, England where I began my work at the Cromford Mills. I was
one of 800 workers who worked in the mills, and it was great. When I entered the mills for

Elephant the movie Essay
Gus Van Sant s Elephant was at once critically praised and denounced by both film reviewers and
filmgoers alike. The cinematography takes you on a waltz throughout a seemingly typical day at an
unnamed high school, stopping through the journey to focus on the stereotypes of school. The
jock, the quirky artist, the cliqued girls, the skateboarder, they are all represented and representative
of his film. Van Sant created a film, seemingly without a staunch opinion on the horrors of the
Columbineshootings. The movie seems distanced from the actors and their actions: an unaware
participantfrom the tranquil introduction to the gruesome climax. His seeming lack of a purpose,
lack of a reason for the creation of this film, is exactly the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Van Sant s film aestheticizes the reality of high school, focusing on its beauty and character, and
ignoring the underlying grime inherent on most campuses. The halls and yard of the school are
kept in immaculate condition, staying unnaturally clean, almost sterile for a school. Despite this
seeming glorification of the building, the hallways are kept as a constant secondary to the sharply
focused characters the camera constantly follows. It takes the focus away from the bare walls and
empty hallways and places it solely on the students. The film isn t about the location that it
occurred, but the people that it happened to. The focus is on the students of the film, both literally
and figuratively. The camera seems to never stop moving, save for brief pauses that seem to rest
the viewer. There is little extraneous distraction from the characters as they walk down the hall; the
only time something distracts from the center of attention is when it is repeated again as the film
goes through its several cycles that repeat scenes from different points of view.
The film intertwines the lives of its multiple points of view. They all seem to be unrelated, but they
ultimately tie together in a cohesive storyline that unravels into its unavoidable conclusion. Each
person follows his or her own timeline until it reaches the point

Winston Churchill Leadership
Oftentimes, the best leaders are those who are willing to step up and face the daunting tasks that
no one else will. As Prime Minister of England during World War II, Winston Churchill s
leadership left a permanent mark upon history. Many believe that without him, the Allies would
have lost the war. In the words of John C. Maxwell, Leaders become great not because of their
power, but because of their ability to empower others. Churchill prided himself in having courage
in all things and possessed the unique ability to provide others with courage also. He led the British
empirethrough battle after battle tirelessly, saying, Continuous effort not strength or intelligence is
the key to unlocking our potential. To him, there was no use saying we are doing our best. You
have got to succeed in doing what is necessary. Although it was almost certain that Britain would
lose World War II, Churchill provided the willpower needed to stand against Germany and
engendered a motivated and hardworking government, as well as an inspired nation.
Winston Churchill s headstrong resiliency in the face of danger defined his career as a war
leader. Former Prime Minister David Cameron states, He was an incredible leader for our country,
and indeed for the whole free world, at an impossibly difficult time. (1). Five months before his
inauguration, Churchill gave his speech House of Many Mansions wherein he urged the then Prime
Minister Neville Chamberlain and other world

first characteristic I agree with is easily bored Risky behavior , self indulgence, and the
pleasures of the moment over long term plans are all things ESFPs get into a little too often. I
would say this fits me because i really don t think what i do before i do it, such as when im

your bike and hurt something I don t think what is going to happen when i do it.One other reason I
agree with this is that when someone tells me not to doit,it makes me wantto do it more. So easily
bored is something I strongly agree with.
The characteristic I also agree that I m bold . ESFPs aren t known for holding back. Wanting to

Last, and most important, is that studies have not shown that more hours spent on homework leads

Normative Theories And Moral Obligations
Normative Theories: Ethical and Moral Obligations
The ability to apply morality to the resolution of life s ethical issues in an appropriate manner has
been the focus of philosophers for centuries. Morality, can be best defined as to what degree any
action or inaction is deemed right or wrong, good or bad. However, the meaning of right and
wrong, along with the application of these beliefs have been the catalyst for much debate spawning
what is known as normative theory. The analysis of complex ethical issues found in common
scenarios require the application of normative theories. Normative theories define the concept of
right and wrong. There are three types of normative theories; virtue ethics, deontological theories

concept is encompassed in the American Psychological Association s Ethics Code and the idea
behind patient confidentiality. These concepts have become universal law by applying them to all
patients at all times. By keeping the information of all patients confidential unless deemed
dangerous by the treating physician. Deontology makes no concessions based on potential

A Flat Tax Is A System Of Taxation
A flat tax is a system of taxation that taxes at a uniform rate, regardless of income level. In the
United States we currently use a progressive tax system, meaning that high income earners pay
taxes at a higher rate than low income earners. A flat tax rate is a tax system with a constant
marginal rate, which is applied to individual income. There are various taxsystems that are labeled a
flat tax even though they are significantly different. A true flat rate tax is a system of taxationwhere
one tax rate is applied to all personal income with no deductions. A flat tax is a tax that is applied
at a consistent rate with no variables in its application. In contrast with progressive or regressive
taxes, where the rate that is applied... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the true sense of the word, these are actually progressive tax plans, but they fall in between the
current progressive plan and a strictly constant marginal rate.
PROS
1.Simplicity considered a significant benefit of the flat tax system. One tax rate makes for easy
computation by the Internal Revenue Service and straightforward payments from taxpayers.
2.Because the flat tax taxes only one income, it is easier to understand and to report.
3.The flat tax eliminates global taxation and allows the United States to compete more evenly in
global markets.
4.This tax system does not discriminate based on income level; everyone pays the same percent of
income.
5.An advantage of a flat tax is that no one receives special treatment; all people whether poor or
rich are taxed in exactly the same way.
6.Would result in considerable savings to all parties; the time and energy businesses and
individuals spend annually in preparing tax forms would be greatly reduced, as would the costs to
the government of collecting revenue.
7.The Internal Revenue Service could be substantially downsized.
8.For tax payers, the financial cost of complying with regulations set by the IRS is high.
9.With a flat tax system, a section of the tax code biased against capital formation, death tax,
capital gains tax and double taxation of savings and dividends would be removed.
10.A flat tax will only tax earned income.

The Impact Of The Fourteenth Amendment
For centuries, the success of a democratic society has been measured by its commitment to equality,
a resounding principle central to our nation s founding. The Enlightenment inspired language of the
Declaration of Independence, namely the age old axiom that all men are created equal, pervades
our perception of the American creed. However, nearly a century passed before the Lockean
principles espoused in the Declaration of Independence began to bear the force of law. Entitling
American citizens to due process and equal protection of the law, the Fourteenth Amendment,
perhaps the most transformative Amendment of all, has inspired the steady progression of
American society. Nonetheless, while the Amendment serves as the chief legal force behind the
democratic goal of equality, questions regarding its achievement of that goal... Show more content

Regardless of the guarantees evoked in its wording, only court challenges will determine the
fulfillment of its intent, demanding a conscientious populace and Supreme Court that evolves in
time with the dynamic sentiment of modern society. In another respect, the erroneous conclusion
that the amendment itself is immune to criticism must be rejected. For instance, Section II of the
amendment permits the disenfranchisement of felons, a provision that ironically has perpetuated
the marginalization of those that the amendment was intended to protect. The war on drugs, a
campaign that has disproportionately ravaged African American communities, effectively deprives
a substantial percentage of the African American community of the most basic privilege of
citizenship, a consequence that runs counter to the egalitarian quality that defines the amendment.
Nonetheless, all things considered, the sheer existence of the Fourteenth Amendment manifests the
American commitment to wholly achieving equality, a rewarding work in

Epidemiology Of Obesity
Obesity is a leading preventable cause of death worldwide and its prevalence is increasing at an
alarming rate (Barness et al, 2007). For thousands of years obesity was rarely seen, it was not until
the 20th century that it became common, some much so that in 1997, the World Health
Organization (WHO) formally recognized obesity as a global epidemic (Caballero, 2007).
Overweight and obesity now affects at least 1.7 billion people. With the largest proportion in
developing countries: In 2010, almost 2 billion people of the world s population are overweight
(BMI between 25 and 29.9 kg/m2) and more than half a billion are obese (BMI 30 kg/m2). Using

The increased prevalence of obesity among high income groups in nonindusrialized countries may
have changed as non indusrialized countries become more affluent and obesity becomes more

Egypt studied the prevelance of obesity and overweight among their populations and results were

In United States of America (USA), the prevalence of obesity was 10% among children 2 to 5

Pursuit of Interpersonal Communication
Pursuit of Interpersonal Communication Pursuit of Interpersonal Communication Interpersonal
communication is a very vital part of everybody s life and success. This is because in our

Psychological information is based on the habits or mannerisms of the communicators. If one
knows psychological information about the communicator then he or she is very
knowledgeable about the other person s behaviors. Other than the levels of information, there
are also three levels of knowing which are descriptive, predictive, and explanatory. Just like the
levels of information, as you go from descriptive to explanatory, the levels of knowing get more
interpersonal. Descriptive level of knowing shows that one can physically characterize a person
to another person. But not only do you have to be able to describe him or her, the description
must be good enough to where someone else will be able to distinguish the person being
described. Predictive level of knowing is just like the word itself. If one is at this level of
knowing then he or she should be able to predict the other person s behaviors and habits. The last
level of knowing is explanatory. At this level not only are you able to predict his or her behavior,
one is able to explain why he or she acts in that manner. One should be able to explain the reasons
why he or she does the thing they do. The last two characteristics in the developmental perspectives
are the intrinsic and extrinsic rules. These are the rules that govern the communication between the
people involved. Extrinsic rules are basically society s rules. This governs

Preparation And Presentation Of A Company s Financial...
1Introduction
1.1Background to the study
Preparation and presentation of a company s financial statements is a process that is laden with the
use of estimates. The conceptual framework released by the Financial Accounting Standards Board
indicates that a company prepares financial statements with the intention of assisting investors
assess the company s future cash flow prospects (Financial Accounting Standards Board, 2010).
However, the process used by a company in assessing its cash flows is reliant on the use of
estimates and conjecture. For example, the company has to determine the fair value of its assets on
an ongoing basis if approximate value in the market is to be reflected in the financial statements.
These values are arrived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has also been argued that the increased use of complex financial derivatives contributed to the
confusion regarding the use of fair value accounting, especially among those companies that lacked
deep insight into the operations of the financial world (Laux Leuz, 2010). Even when there was
adequate knowledge on how these derivatives were to be accounted for, there are arguments that
companies failed to interpret the guidelines as would have been expected.
1.2Statement of the problem
Generally, there are two approaches in determining the value of a company s assets and liabilities
(Laux Leux, 2009). One, the company can use the historical cost approach. Under this method, the
purchase cost is used as the basis of determining other factors such as the asset s loss of value that
occurs over time. Therefore, a building acquired five decades ago would be presented in the
financial statements either at the cost at which it was built or the cost of land plus construction.
Depreciation is then deducted from this cost over its lifetime. The historical cost method has some
obvious drawbacks. The historical cost method disregards the occurrence of events that have the
impact of reducing the asset s value (Hitz, 2007). For example, it is possible that the cost of land
will have appreciated immensely over the

Topic Number 4
Women in film are often portrayed in a manner deemed pleasurable to the male viewer. Laura
Mulvey takes this concept and dissects it within her article Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema.
Mulvey references the term male gaze, wom[en] displayed as sexual object[s] is the leitmotif of
erotic spectacle: from pin ups to strip tease, from Ziegfeld to Busby Berkeley, she holds the look,
and plays to and signifies male desire (Mulvey 40). Because of this interpretation it is relevant to
examine different forms of media, such as films, to establish if the male gaze is present.
Furthermore, it is appropriate to analyze films directed by women to identify the male gaze, due to
their unique interpretation of female character s visual representation. In the essay that follows, it
will consider Girlfight and Dance, Girl, Dance to analyze how two separate female filmmakers,
Karyn Kusama and Dorothy Arzner respectfully, challenge the theory of the male gaze, along with
comparing and contrasting the methods in which such challenges were made, and finally it will
address how any filmmaker may object the male gaze.
Within the film Girlfight, director Karyn Kusama presents the audience with a strong female
protagonist. Actor Michelle Rodriguez debuts her career portraying the lead role of Diana and
gives the audience a unique interpretation of the character. We first see the heroine, through a crowd

How Humor Can Serve As An Important Part Of Health
Introduction In recent years, the idea that humor can serve as an important part of health has been
popularized through both the media and the general public. From Kaiser Permanente s Thrive
campaign to a rise in studies on the correlation between happy and healthy lives, happiness and
positivity has taken a step into the spotlight as a current day medical issue. Although it has only
recently because popularized among the public, the idea that humor provides health benefits has
been expressed many times in the past. In Shakespeare s Taming of the Shrew, a messenger claims
that mirth and merriment... bars a thousand harms and lengthens life , and in the bible, Proverbs
17:22 says that a merry heart doeth good like medicine. Today, several studies have shown how
laughter and happiness can have positive effects on both mental and physical health, through
physiological and emotional factors.
Studies on the Physical Benefits of Laughter Laughter is a physically stimulating activity that can
benefit physical health. Through various experiments, researchers have gauged the relationship
between laughter and health, and while some have proved inconclusive, many others have shown a
positive correlation between laughter and physical stimulation. In 1991, psychologists Hubert and
de Jong Meyer conducted a study on the relationships between heart rate, interoception, salivary
cortisol and mood or emotion in response to film stimuli. Their aim was to assess responses by

Through the interpretation of both verbal and nonverbal language, as well as the specific client
complaints, clinicians can pinpoint important markers within behavior and can generate an
understanding of their patient and determine the type of treatment that would be best for their

top priority. We may define culturally informed psychological assessment as an approach to
evaluation that is keenly perceptive of and responsive to issues of acculturation, values, identity,
worldview, language, and other culture related variables as they may impact the evaluation process

individuals contribute to the understanding of the client including family, friends, and coworkers
input and information. Through the use of translators and other cultural affiliates clinicians are able

College For The Masses By David Leonhardt
College for the Masses by David Leonhardt is a great article that displays the many benefits
among lower income students attending a four year college. Why Poor Students Struggle by Vicki
Madden displays many examples from hers and her colleagues experiences while providing
statistics of the lower income joining a four year college. The two articles both display the benefits
of attending a four year college and that the education pays off. David s article talked about the
different education levels based on their test score before attending the universityand the amount of
income, while Vicki s focused more on the income and the effects on grades of students while
attending the college on low income. David also goes more in detail about the disadvantages of
community college than Vicki s description of community college. College for the Masses , in my
opinion, had more intensive descriptions and examples on the benefits of starting in a four year
university, rather than community college.
David Leonhardt bases more of his articles on students similar test scores when starting in a
university. In his article, he uses examples of two groups of students with generally the same
score, but dividend on what college they attend because of a tiny difference. Students who score
840 on the SAT, for example, or maintain a C+ average in high school are admitted. Those who
don t clear the bar are generally rejected, and many don t attend any four year college (Leonhardt).

City Of Fortune
Many books have been written on the topic of cities. They are great way to represent a larger
view of the time period that the books focus on. City of fortune does exactly that by showing
how Venice fell in power during the 1400 s. In a very similar regard a book called Lords of the
Sea did the same thing. They both focused on broad events, cultural interactions, and great
peoples to get their point across. By comparing how they both approach the same the same sort of
topic, one can get an idea of how well City of Fortune completes its goal of showing a good
representation of the 1400 s.
Like in lords of the sea, City of fortune does not focus on the small things. Aside from a few first
person accounts most of the book is based on the larger details of the city. The author does this
to not give an impression of what the people were like, but to show how empires in general acted

Educational Resources
As a means of raising awareness in the general public about the lives of refugees, in 2009,
ANCORW launched an education resource which highlights the inspiring contributions and
successes of refugees settling in Australia. Title, Celebration of Refugee Lives : Stories of Strength
and Resilience , it contains a film, book and short training program. The aim of this education
resource is to enhance the public s understanding of refugee experience and to dispel the
exaggerated myth that refugees only bring negative social and economic problems.
Improving Settlement
In 2010, ANCROW and the CRR initiated a project to explore the difficulties faced by refugee
families and identify steps to improve family settlement outcomes. Past projects found that the
issues of family conflict, violence and separation in settlement have become one of the most
pressing problems experienced by refugee families settling in Australia. This is exacerbated by other

Crime And Punishment Utilitarianism
Are there special human beings who are entitled to more rights and privileges than ordinary
humans? Rodia s theory in Dostoyevsky s novel, Crime and Punishment, addresses this question.
His desire to perform benevolent deeds for society converts him into a strong believer in his theory,
influencing him to commit murder. Through Rodia s experiment, the novelproves the theory false.
Dostoevsky uses his characterization of Raskolnikov to express criticism of the popular theory,
Utilitarianism.
Utilitarianism was a widespread theory in Russia during Dostoyevsky s era, a belief that
achieving a greater good for the society, in any method, was a moral right. For example, one

Similar to Rodia s dual personality, there are many contradictions within his theory. Rodia claims
that extraordinary humans commit crimes that are beneficial to society and thus, they have a
perfect right to commit breaches of morality and crimes, and the law is not for them (205). These
men have a right to take lead in society because they are given extraordinary tasks; at the same
time, they are above the ordinary men and can overlook their moral laws because the privileged
men s crimes are justified for their moral purposes. At the time of his murder, Rodia s theory is
underdeveloped and his crime was an experimentation. When Rodia confesses to Sonia, he says, I
wanted to murder without casuistry, to murder for my own sake, for myself alone! I didn t want to
lie about it even to myself (329). In truth, Rodia wanted to test out his theory, despite his
justifications, and find out if he was an extraordinary human and were given these rights. He
desperately wanted to feed his self esteem by placing himself superior to others. However, his
psychological battle, the constant guilt, uneasiness, and instability, confirmed that he is was not
granted these immortal rights. Ultimately, Rodia accepts the truth he had been rejecting and turns
himself in order to free himself from the guilt that captured him. In the end, Rodia had no
revolutionary cause to murder the

  • 6. Analysis Of Blue-Collar Billiance By Mike Rose One might argue that without formal education a person has low intelligence. Some people might say that blue collar work is for the uneducated or for the lower class society. Both of these opinions are challenged in Mike Rose`s writing Blue Collar Brilliance. Rose uses multiple rhetorical methods within is reading to prove that blue collar work is not for unintelligent workers. Rose reflects on his childhood and early adult hood with many references. Rose also uses many different tones throughout the duration of Blue Collar Brilliance. Rose uses strong evidence to clearly show his opinion of blue collar work. Rose uses References through out the reading to prove his claim of blue collar brilliance. He explains multiple situations he has been through growing up in a blue collar family. Rose writes about his memories of watching his mother work as a waitress in a restaurant. He explains the skills and work ethic he watched his mother learn over the years. Rose states, A waitress acquires knowledge and intuition about the ways and the rhythms of the restaurant business. Manufacturing Of Wooden Shoes And Aprons Manufacturing Dutch wooden shoes and aprons Stacie Hart Trine University Introduction Mass manufacturing entails the production of products in large quantities and it s the advantages that come with such kind of production that makes it attractive to many manufacturing companies (Libralato et al., 2012). One of the advantages of mass production is that all equipment, material and labor required are located under the same roof. Mass manufacturing is profound in various industries including the automobile industry, textile industry, and telecommunication industry among others (Qiao et al., 2006). This essay will delve on mass manufacturing of Dutch wooden shoes and aprons including presentation of budget estimates where applicable. An in depth analysis was conducted on existing literature on the same in order to understand the traditional process of manufacturing these products followed by an analysis of some recent literature explaining the modernized process of manufacturing these products. The Cause of Globalization Garrett / CAUSES OF GLOBALIZATION COMPARATIVE POLITICAL STUDIES / August September 2000 The most important causes of globalization differ among the three major components of international market integration: trade, multinational production, and international finance. The information technology revolution has made it very difficult for governments to control cross border capital movements, even if they have political incentives to do so. Governments can still restrict the multinationalization of production, but they have increasingly chosen to liberalize because of the macroeconomic benefits. Although the one time Ricardian gains from freer trade are clear, whether trade is good for growth in the medium term is less certain. In the case of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What are the causal relationships among these three trends? The second perspective, technological determinism, contends that the shrinkage of time and space has been so dramatic and so pervasive that there is essentially nothing that can be done to stop it. According to this view, technological changes have propelled international economic activity, and governments have been largely irrelevant. Thus, policy liberalization should be understood as governments acknowledging the futility of trying to resist globalization, rather than acting as a prime mover behind market integration. Management gurus such as Ohmae (1995) have propounded this view, and political scientists such as Rosecrance (1999) and Strange (1998) use it as the starting point of their analyses. The case for a technologically determined view of globalization is far stronger with respect to international finance than to multinational production or trade. In the era of 24 hour global trading in a seemingly limitless array of financial instruments, governments can only hope marginally to influence control cross border liquid capital movements. Although there has been branding research that was presented by Aaker and Keller, many SMEs, in the apparel manufacturer brand segment, are not aware of these principles. There are two ways in which brands can represent themselves. They are manufacturer brand or own brand. Manufacturer brand is based upon the idea that a manufacturer of a product sells the product under it s own name. Own label brand is when the private label brand is not the producer of the product, but is bought from a manufacturer and sold by the brand at a cheaper price. In terms of manufacturer brands in SME brand strategy, there is much competition with own brand labels in terms of market share (Oubinam Rubio, and Yague 2006). With the competition of own brand label and corporate companies taking market share, there is much fascinating research to be done on brand equity of a company in the SME s perspective. Justification of Study Gap and area in need of further research There has been little research on brand equity in SME apparel brands. Analysis of Germinal Essays Germinal, based on the landmark novel by Emile Zola, presents a startlingly authentic and powerful look into the tumultuous, tragedy riddled lives of 19th century French coal miners. Forced to endure hellish conditions, risk death and dismemberment, and work from before dawn until after dusk, these men and women had only one alternative to mining: starvation. Germinal is not a happy story, but it is impossible not to sense the realism that pervades the project. The film opens with the arrival of Etienne Lantier (Renaud) at the Voreux coalmine. An out of work machinist, Etienne is willing to do almost anything to make money, including descending into the pit and taking pick axe to coal. He is befriended by Maheu (Gerard Depardieu), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a strike looms, one such woman hopes that this unfortunate turn of events won t disrupt her plans for a lunch party. Berri s indictment of plight of the miners is at once simple and moving. While Zola s impassioned cry for social reform is at the heart of Germinal, the interactions of the individual characters represent the picture s soul, and lift it above other movies with similar messages. There is the unconditional love of one man, Maheu, for his family, and the sacrifices he must endure for them. Maheu is a hard worker, and in his heart he believes in the innate goodness of man. He cannot accept, for example, that soldiers brought in to defend the mine would fire on their own countrymen. Germinal, which cost $30 million to make, is a lavish production, and it s clear that the money was well spent. The scenes in the mine are remarkable in conveying the desperate circumstances confronting the characters. How many members of the audience experienced an irrational desire to wash away the accumulating coal dust from their own skin? Van Sant s film aestheticizes the reality of high school, focusing on its beauty and character, and ignoring the underlying grime inherent on most campuses. The halls and yard of the school are kept in immaculate condition, staying unnaturally clean, almost sterile for a school. Despite this seeming glorification of the building, the hallways are kept as a constant secondary to the sharply focused characters the camera constantly follows. It takes the focus away from the bare walls and empty hallways and places it solely on the students. The film isn t about the location that it occurred, but the people that it happened to. The focus is on the students of the film, both literally and figuratively. The camera seems to never stop moving, save for brief pauses that seem to rest the viewer. There is little extraneous distraction from the characters as they walk down the hall; the only time something distracts from the center of attention is when it is repeated again as the film goes through its several cycles that repeat scenes from different points of view. Entitling American citizens to due process and equal protection of the law, the Fourteenth Amendment, perhaps the most transformative Amendment of all, has inspired the steady progression of American society. For instance, Section II of the amendment permits the disenfranchisement of felons, a provision that ironically has perpetuated the marginalization of those that the amendment was intended to protect. The war on drugs, a campaign that has disproportionately ravaged African American communities, effectively deprives a substantial percentage of the African American community of the most basic privilege of citizenship, a consequence that runs counter to the egalitarian quality that defines the amendment. Descriptive level of knowing shows that one can physically characterize a person to another person. Even when there was adequate knowledge on how these derivatives were to be accounted for, there are arguments that companies failed to interpret the guidelines as would have been expected. 1.2Statement of the problem Generally, there are two approaches in determining the value of a company s assets and liabilities (Laux Leux, 2009). One, the company can use the historical cost approach. Under this method, the purchase cost is used as the basis of determining other factors such as the asset s loss of value that occurs over time. Therefore, a building acquired five decades ago would be presented in the financial statements either at the cost at which it was built or the cost of land plus construction. Depreciation is then deducted from this cost over its lifetime. The historical cost method has some obvious drawbacks. The historical cost method disregards the occurrence of events that have the impact of reducing the asset s value (Hitz, 2007).
