Sherry is a 17-year-old Black high school senior. She is from an upper-middle-class family where academic and career success are extremely important, as is their religion. She is the third of five children. Until recently she was always a good student, hardworking, but somewhat self-critical. She is reported to be shy but always had several friends and has dated occasionally in the past. During the summer before her senior year, Sherry went out of state to an academic camp at a prestigious college. While there she began to experience auditory hallucinations and delusions. She also began to act in bizarre ways and withdraw from people. She was hospitalized for 1 month shortly after returning home. She is now reportedly unable to complete work at school, and her promising future appears questionable. There is no history of psychiatric illness in the family. Cognitively she reports experiencing auditory, persecutory hallucinations and delusions as well as frequent cognitions like, "I'm no good," "I can't do anything," "I'll always be this way." Affectively she had flat affect and anxiety related to interpersonal situations and tasks and the content of the hallucinations and delusions. Interpersonally she is withdrawn and socially isolated. Behaviorally she is inactive and her basic self-care is severely limited. .

IDENTIFYING/DEMOGRAPHIC DATA: Carlos is a 7 year old male in the third grade. He lives in Houston, Texas with his parents. He is the only child to two parents, both of whom have completed post-graduate education. His parents are originally from Guatemala and relocated to the United States when Carlos was 6 months old for job opportunities. Carlos is an intelligent and caring young boy who presents with significant potential to excel academically.
CHIEF COMPLAINT/PRESENTING PROBLEM: Carlos was referred for an evaluation becausehis parents and teacher indicate that Carlos is restless, and often requires reminders to help him stay on task. He is described as "constantly running around" and presenting with difficulties listening and following instructions.
HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS: Carlos enjoys spending time with his friends, and participating in physical activities such as swimming, running and skating. He also enjoys participating in social events, and is often invited to play dates and birthday parties. While Carlos interacts well with peers his own age, his parents believe he is easily led and influenced by others. Carlos does get upset when he does not receive recognition or feels that he has been ignored. His teacher notes that he sometimes acts 'socially immature', and that he often demonstrates attention-seeking behavior.
Carlos has difficulty focusing and sitting still in class. He is able to 'hyper focus' on some activities of interest however he often has difficulty sustaining his attention at school. Carlos has been known to blurt out answers and interrupts other students in the classroom. His mother reports difficulties at home with following routines and remembering instructions. His parents describe emotional reactivity as well as confrontational behaviors demonstrated both at home and at school. His teacher notes that Carlos is defiant towards listening to instructions, but generally interacts well with his peers. He is easily frustrated and emotionally impulsive - Carlos has had several incidents of hitting, crying outbursts, and inappropriate behavior. Behavioral concerns with aggression, lying, arguments, and disruptive behavior were noted in his pre-school program at age 4. Each school year since teachers have reported incidents in the classroom.
PAST PSYCHIATRIC HISTORY: This is the first evaluation for Carlos.It is noteworthy that he did not know his address or home phone number, could not print his surname, and recognized only a few pre-primer words.

Presenting Problem
Client presented in the emergency room (ER) having been brought in the previous night by her parents. Following an argument with her parents, L cut her right wrist. L's mother reported that L started screaming rapidly and became physically violent toward her prior to cutting her own wrist.
Psychological Data
L is a 17-year-old Hispanic female who resides in Pennsylvania with her mother, father, and older sister. She is in 11th grade at the local public school. L appeared to be of average to above-average intelligence, as she was able to respond to numerous questions in an articulate and intelligent manner. She was well versed about world history and current affairs. Her mother confirmed that she has done well in school, maintaining a B+ average and participating in various school activities (e.g., chorus, school paper) until last year. L slowly dropped out of many activities she liked in the past. Her mother noticed about 8 months ago that L had also begun having difficulty doing schoolwork. Erratic behavior arose during episodes when L also became irritable and explosive. During these repeated episodes, she became quite defiant, cut classes, had to be placed in school detention, and had even assaulted the principal. L has numerous friends and believed she can relate to all types of people. She has a boyfriend who adores her, but she said she doesn't feel the same about him. The school counselor confirmed that L is outgoing, popular, and smart; but during these episodes she became another person, one who is very violent and difficult.
Medical History
A physical examination by a staff doctor revealed superficial cuts on L’s left and right wrist. The cuts appeared to be a few weeks old. There were cigarette burns on her right wrist that looked to be approximately one week old. In questioning L about the cigarette burns, L responded, "I just wanted to see how it felt—now I know." When questioned about old cuts on her left wrist, she responded, "I don't want to talk about it." L weighs 103 pounds and is 5’ 6” tall. L denied any dieting or fasting, but her mother noticed over this past year that her weight has dropped. Substance Abuse History L denied any drug or alcohol use. When she was questioned regarding such, her response was "I could do drugs if I wanted to. I don't want to, because it’s dumb." Family History L’s mother is 42 years old and works as a secretary for a large telephone company. Her father is 49 years old and operates a small landscaping business. Both are U.S. citizens, with a cultural background from Guatemala of which they are proud. Both have 2 a high school education. L’s sister is considerably younger, aged 8.
Their relationship is described as unremarkable, although L’s mother noted that the younger sister stays away when L is upset. Marital circumstances are uncertain, although the parents admitted that they are trying to keep the family together for their children, and they are of .

Case A
Charlie is a four-year-old Caucasian boy. His mother had hoped to enroll him in preschool this year, but
when she attempted to leave him at the school for the morning classes, he panicked and threw tantrums.
He clung to her, screaming until she was able to comfort him by taking him out of the school building with
her. Until this time, Charlie has spent brief periods of time under others’ care while his mother ran errands
or visited with friends. He tended to become upset as she left the home on these occasions, as well. He
does not usually throw tantrums; the tantrums seem to occur only when he anticipates being left by his
mother at school.
Case B
Nyah is an eleven-year-old African-American girl beginning middle school. In August, just before school
began, she started having difficulties sleeping at night. She reported to her parents that she was worrying
about school—she was worrying about being assigned more homework and anticipating difficulties with
making friends. She had also been biting her fingernails. Her parents describe Nyah as intelligent,
hardworking, conscientious, and prone to worry. Apparently, she has always had more worries than other
children. When her parents argue, she worries they will divorce. When her friends do not answer her calls,
she worries that they are rejecting her. Throughout elementary school, she often feared that she would fail
her spelling tests or math exams, despite regularly receiving strong grades.
Case C
Sindhu is a sixteen-year-old Indian-American girl. Her parents and friends describe her as quite serious
most of the time and often sad. She is extremely talented in art; she paints and draws so well that she has
been recommended to participate in the countywide gifted-and-talented art class every year since
elementary school. She seems to express deep, intense emotions in her artwork. Her mother became quite
concerned recently when she heard Sindhu tell a friend that “life is too hard,” and that she “can’t imagine
how she will make it in college.” Her best friend admits that lately, Sindhu seems more sad, more tearful,
and preoccupied with dark subjects of conversation, such as tragedy, war, and death. When Sindhu’s
grades began to decline and she seemed increasingly sad, unmotivated, and lethargic, her parents sought
help for her.
Case D
Asia is an eight-year-old Korean-American girl who has been having difficulty falling asleep. Once she falls
asleep, she often wakes screaming from nightmares. At times, Asia seems quite distracted. When she is
distracted, she seems fearful. Her mother reports that Asia describes fearful daydreams and memories

Collective Unconscious
The part of the unconscious that is universal in humans, in contrast to the personal unconscious belonging to individual experience. The contents of the collective unconscious come into consciousness through archetypal images or basic motifs common to all people.
Complex
An energy-filled cluster of emotions and ideas circling a specific subject. A complex has an archetypal core but expresses aspects of the personal unconscious. Jung’s discovery and explanation of the complex lent validity to Freud’s belief in the personal unconscious.
Countertransference
The activation of unconscious wishes and fantasies on the part of the therapist toward the patient. It can either be elicited by and indicative of the patient’s projections or come from the therapist’s tendency to respond to patients as though they were significant others in the life, history, or fantasy of the therapist.
Individuation
The process by which an individual becomes an indivisible and integrated whole person responsibly embodying his or her individual strengths and limitations.
Persona
A mask or way of appearing that is appropriate to a specific role or social setting. It both shields an individual and reveals suitable aspects of the personality, but is often at variance with the personality as a whole.

· She reported that she currently doesn't have any thoughts of hurting self however has a history of suicidal thoughts including attempts. She also has history of suicide attempts prior to the most recent attempt stating that in the past she "has many overdoses mostly on pills that were prescribed and Tylenol". The Case of L Presenting Problem Client presented in the emergency room (ER) having been brought in the previous night by her parents. Following an argument with her parents, L cut her right wrist. L's mother reported that L started screaming rapidly and became physically violent toward her prior to cutting her own wrist. Psychological Data L is a 17-year-old Hispanic female who resides in Pennsylvania with her mother, father, and older sister. She is in 11th grade at the local public school. L appeared to be of average to above-average intelligence, as she was able to respond to numerous questions in an articulate and intelligent manner. She was well versed about world history and current affairs. Her mother confirmed that she has done well in school, maintaining a B+ average and participating in various school activities (e.g., chorus, school paper) until last year. Isaac, a 31-year-old single male, joins a therapeutic art group that runs twice weekly at an art school in the small northeastern city where he lives. It is an open group, with a core of long-standing members but fairly frequent additions or dropouts, and Charlene, the art therapist who facilitates the group, is keenly attuned to the subtle shifts in group dynamics that ensue whenever one of these changes takes place. Within a few weeks of Isaac’s appearance, she is noticing that a couple of group members have become much more reticent, unwilling to share their reactions to their own (or others’) artwork. She also observes that two other long-time group members who occupy leadership positions among their peers frequently exchange covert glances and smiles or grimaces whenever Isaac contributes to group discussions. Her own sense of his speech is that he tends to be a bit stilted or overelaborate, and that he sometimes takes too long to get to the point, but that he is mostly logical and goal-directed. He speaks softly but clearly and modulates well, though his facial affect is slightly constricted and he often averts his gaze from the person to whom he is speaking after the first few words. He seems shy or anxious, but not especially odd.
Isaac’s artwork, on the other hand, does have a rather strange ‘feel’ to it. He tends to avoid messy materials like clay, paint, or pastels, preferring drawing and collage-making. His drawings include exquisitely detailed architectural exteriors: depictions of palaces and temples set in rocky, forbidding landscapes. Sometimes words or phrases are written across the sky or on the temple walls: “The Day is soon,” “Moon Commune,” “Submission Rules.” Often angelic or demonic faces peer through the clouds or emerge from mountain peaks or minarets. His collage work, likewise, is painstakingly precise, but usually populated by scantily clad models.
Curious to know more, Charlene conducts a 1:1 interview with Isaac. He is the son of a single mother who attended college but worked as a restaurant hostess. Isaacs’s delivery was complicated; the umbilical cord was wrapped tightly around his neck for several minutes. Perhaps as a result, he suffered from a slight left-sided weakness as a young child, but this resolved. He had little contact with his father, who worked as a tax lawyer but drank excessively and whose practice dwindled. He was often alone as a boy, since his mother had to work in the evening. He coped with this by becoming deeply involved in certain television programs, books, and video games. She is highly articulate and an expert in arguing any point she sees as important and has a tendency to become impassioned about social issues and social justice in a way that makes her a powerhouse in her law program. Jalani says she feels like it's her job in the world to crusade for justice and fight for equity for those who don't have a voice. She has always considered herself to be ethically minded and fair but she knows that her emotional investment and zeal can be intimidating to others (a strength she uses in her work). She is short but has broad shoulders and a strong sturdy, muscular body, with well developed legs. She was a successful track athlete in high school and college. she has a squared jaw and fierce and penetrating yet somewhat intimidating eyes. Jalani has often found it difficult to let people into her life in an intimate way because she can come across as too opinionated, judgmental or stern. She's idealistic, well learned and studious but her delivery is often blunt and strident which makes people feel like she's angry and disapproving even when she's not (and even if she is she has trouble admitting it). She's very focused on facts and the practical application of life so she very rarely enjoys things like art, food or music or what she says are "frivolous things" partially because she's so busy pursuing her new career as a lawyer at a non profit and partially because she says she "doesn't see the point". Jalani lacks rhythm and fluidity in her movements but she's strong, physically grounded and good at taking care of practical resources. At times, when she cares to, Jalani can be very charming utilizing diplomacy, tact and a smooth professionalism to get her goals met. She has a knack for social networking, mostly because she is so knowledgeable and can be funny and self-deprecating when necessary, she's good at adapting somewhat to get what she needs, but for the most part what you see is what you get. Ella Schultz is a 16-year-old White female of German decent. She was raised in Ohio. Ella’s family consists of her father, Robert (44 years old), and her mother, Rose (39 years old). Ella currently resides in a residential group home, where she has been since she ran away from home. Ella has been provided room and board in the residential treatment facility for the past 3 months. Ella describes herself as bi-sexual.
Presenting Problem
Ella has been living homeless for 13 months. She has been arrested on two occasions for shoplifting and once for loitering (as a teen in need of supervision) in the last 7 months. Ella has recently been court ordered to reside in a group home with counseling. She refuses to return home due to the abuse she experienced. After 3 months at Teens First, Ella said she is thinking about reinitiating contact with her mother. She has not seen either parent in 6 months and missed the stability of the way her family “used to
be,” although she is also conflicted due to recognizing the instability of her family. Ella is confused about the path to follow.
Family Dynamics
Ella indicates that her family worked well until her father began drinking heavily about 3 years ago. She remembers her parents being social and going out or having friends over for drinks, but she never remembered them becoming drunk. Then, her father lost his job as an information technology (IT) support professional and was unable to find meaningful work. He took on part-time jobs at electronics stores, but they left him demoralized. Her parents stopped socializing, and then her father was fired from his last job because he arrived drunk. Ella’s father would regularly be drunk by the time she arrived home from school.
When Ella started having trouble in school, her father would berate her when she came home if she didn’t study immediately. Then, he would interrupt her studies by following her around and verbally abusing her. Soon after, he began hitting her or throwing objects at her. DV Elementary School is situated in a working class neighborhood. It is a K-6 school and has student body of 1,200 children. The population of students is diverse in culture and race.
Disposition
This morning, as the children were preparing to go to lunch, a distraught father entered the school yard. Earlier in the day, the distraught father, “Ben” had had another argument about custody and visitation with his ex-wife. Ben’s daughter Sierra is an 8-year-old 4th grader at DV Elementary School.
When Ben entered the school grounds, he was carrying an M-16 assault rifle. Ben is a retired veteran who likes to collect guns. His M-16 was equipped with an extended clip, allowing him to carry over 50 rounds of ammunition in the clip attached to the gun. Ben eventually made his way into the school, then the front administrative office and emptied all 50 rounds on the occupants.
A group of students were passing by the front office as the assault began. One child was injured, but not fatally. When emergency services arrive and secure the locked down school, they count 5 fatalities. One of the fatalities was Ben, who took his own life with a hand gun after his killing spree.
The small group of children passing by the office at the time of the assault were the only children who witnessed the horror. The remainder of the student body and teachers reported hearing “pops,” crashing, and “breaking stuff” from their classrooms.

ABS 300 Week One Assessment Scenario
Donna, age 14, had consistently been a B+/A- student throughout elementary school and the
beginning of middle school. However, in the 8th grade, she started demonstrating difficulty
understanding some of her work. Increased difficulties were noted when she was required to
work with abstract concepts rather than rely on rote memorization. Donna had always been
fascinated with flowers, and she could remember the details of hundreds of different species of
wild and domestic flower she encountered.
Donna’s classmates and cousins thought she was odd, and her mother said that Donna was
frequently picked on—at times without even realizing she was being made fun of. Donna was
described as a confused and socially awkward girl who tended to keep to herself. The incident
that led to her first psychological evaluation occurred after one of her classmates teased her
repeatedly over several days to the point of making Donna upset. Donna decided to write a
threatening note to the student as a warning for him to stop. The note included details of which
species of flowers would be found growing on top of the place he would be buried. The boy’s
parents brought the note to the principal and Donna was suspended from school and charged
with terroristic threatening. The school ordered a psychological evaluation and risk assessment
before they allowed her to return to school.
Donna was observed to have awkward mannerisms, and she smiled at what appeared to be
inappropriate times, for example, when she was talking about the teasing at school. She made
very poor eye contact in ways that were atypical for her culture, and she had a difficult time
staying on topic, frequently shifting the topic of conversation onto her interest in flower.
Donna’s intelligence was found to be in the upper limits of the average range on the Wechsler
Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition (WISC-V). The Gilliam Asperger's Disorder Scale
as rated by Donna and her mother together was in the clinically significant range, with her
largest deficits being reflected in her social interactions scale. There were also deficits noted in
pragmatic skills, restricted patterns of behavior, and cognitive patterns. Problems were also noted
with reciprocal social interaction skills, communication skills, and stereotyped behaviors,
interests, and activities.
Donna's QEEG results showed multiple abnormalities. Her right parietal-temporal lobe showed
excessively slow activity. This is an area important for facial recognition and empathy. She also
had excessive mid-line frontal hi-beta, something that is often seen in those with mental rigidity
and obsessive thinking. Multiple problems in coherence were noted, reflecting cognitive
inefficiency in her mental processing. Excessive connectivity was noted in the frontal lobes areas
and there were excessive disconnections between her frontal lobes and the central and back parts

The Case of L Presenting Problem Client presented in the emergency room (ER) having been brought in the previous night by her parents. Following an argument with her parents, L cut her right wrist. L's mother reported that L started screaming rapidly and became physically violent toward her prior to cutting her own wrist. Psychological Data L is a 17-year-old Hispanic female who resides in Pennsylvania with her mother, father, and older sister. She is in 11th grade at the local public school. L appeared to be of average to above-average intelligence, as she was able to respond to numerous questions in an articulate and intelligent manner. Isaac, a 31-year-old single male, joins a therapeutic art group that runs twice weekly at an art school in the small northeastern city where he lives. It is an open group, with a core of long-standing members but fairly frequent additions or dropouts, and Charlene, the art therapist who facilitates the group, is keenly attuned to the subtle shifts in group dynamics that ensue whenever one of these changes takes place. Within a few weeks of Isaac’s appearance, she is noticing that a couple of group members have become much more reticent, unwilling to share their reactions to their own (or others’) artwork. She also observes that two other long-time group members who occupy leadership positions among their peers frequently exchange covert glances and smiles or grimaces whenever Isaac contributes to group discussions. Her own sense of his speech is that he tends to be a bit stilted or overelaborate, and that he sometimes takes too long to get to the point, but that he is mostly logical and goal-directed. He speaks softly but clearly and modulates well, though his facial affect is slightly constricted and he often averts his gaze from the person to whom he is speaking after the first few words. He seems shy or anxious, but not especially odd.
Isaac’s artwork, on the other hand, does have a rather strange ‘feel’ to it. He tends to avoid messy materials like clay, paint, or pastels, preferring drawing and collage-making. His drawings include exquisitely detailed architectural exteriors: depictions of palaces and temples set in rocky, forbidding landscapes. Sometimes words or phrases are written across the sky or on the temple walls: “The Day is soon,” “Moon Commune,” “Submission Rules.” Often angelic or demonic faces peer through the clouds or emerge from mountain peaks or minarets. His collage work, likewise, is painstakingly precise, but usually populated by scantily clad models.
Curious to know more, Charlene conducts a 1:1 interview with Isaac. He is the son of a single mother who attended college but worked as a restaurant hostess. Isaacs’s delivery was complicated; the umbilical cord was wrapped tightly around his neck for several minutes. Perhaps as a result, he suffered from a slight left-sided weakness as a young child, but this resolved. He had little contact with his father, who worked as a tax lawyer but drank excessively and whose practice dwindled. He was often alone as a boy, since his mother had to work in the evening. She is short but has broad shoulders and a strong sturdy, muscular body, with well developed legs. Jalani has often found it difficult to let people into her life in an intimate way because she can come across as too opinionated, judgmental or stern. She's idealistic, well learned and studious but her delivery is often blunt and strident which makes people feel like she's angry and disapproving even when she's not (and even if she is she has trouble admitting it). She's very focused on facts and the practical application of life so she very rarely enjoys things like art, food or music or what she says are "frivolous things" partially because she's so busy pursuing her new career as a lawyer at a non profit and partially because she says she "doesn't see the point". Jalani lacks rhythm and fluidity in her movements but she's strong, physically grounded and good at taking care of practical resources. At times, when she cares to, Jalani can be very charming utilizing diplomacy, tact and a smooth professionalism to get her goals met. She has a knack for social networking, mostly because she is so knowledgeable and can be funny and self-deprecating when necessary, she's good at adapting somewhat to get what she needs, but for the most part what you see is what you get. Ella Schultz is a 16-year-old White female of German decent. She was raised in Ohio. Ella’s family consists of her father, Robert (44 years old), and her mother, Rose (39 years old). Ella currently resides in a residential group home, where she has been since she ran away from home. Ella has been provided room and board in the residential treatment facility for the past 3 months. Ella describes herself as bi-sexual.
Presenting Problem
Ella has been living homeless for 13 months. She has been arrested on two occasions for shoplifting and once for loitering (as a teen in need of supervision) in the last 7 months. Ella has recently been court ordered to reside in a group home with counseling. She refuses to return home due to the abuse she experienced. After 3 months at Teens First, Ella said she is thinking about reinitiating contact with her mother. She has not seen either parent in 6 months and missed the stability of the way her family “used to
be,” although she is also conflicted due to recognizing the instability of her family. Ella is confused about the path to follow.
Family Dynamics
Ella indicates that her family worked well until her father began drinking heavily about 3 years ago. She remembers her parents being social and going out or having friends over for drinks, but she never remembered them becoming drunk. Then, her father lost his job as an information technology (IT) support professional and was unable to find meaningful work. He took on part-time jobs at electronics stores, but they left him demoralized. Her parents stopped socializing, and then her father was fired from his last job because he arrived drunk. Ella’s father would regularly be drunk by the time she arrived home from school.
When Ella started having trouble in school, her father would berate her when she came home if she didn’t study immediately. Then, he would interrupt her studies by following her around and verbally abusing her. Soon after, he began hitting her or throwing objects at her. Once she went to the emergency room for stitches on her brow when she was struck by a drinking glass her father threw. DV Elementary School is situated in a working class neighborhood. It is a K-6 school and has student body of 1,200 children. The population of students is diverse in culture and race.
Disposition
This morning, as the children were preparing to go to lunch, a distraught father entered the school yard. Earlier in the day, the distraught father, “Ben” had had another argument about custody and visitation with his ex-wife. Ben’s daughter Sierra is an 8-year-old 4th grader at DV Elementary School.
When Ben entered the school grounds, he was carrying an M-16 assault rifle. Ben is a retired veteran who likes to collect guns. His M-16 was equipped with an extended clip, allowing him to carry over 50 rounds of ammunition in the clip attached to the gun. Ben eventually made his way into the school, then the front administrative office and emptied all 50 rounds on the occupants.
A group of students were passing by the front office as the assault began. One child was injured, but not fatally. When emergency services arrive and secure the locked down school, they count 5 fatalities. One of the fatalities was Ben, who took his own life with a hand gun after his killing spree.
The small group of children passing by the office at the time of the assault were the only children who witnessed the horror. The remainder of the student body and teachers reported hearing “pops,” crashing, and “breaking stuff” from their classrooms.

ABS 300 Week One Assessment Scenario
Donna, age 14, had consistently been a B+/A- student throughout elementary school and the
beginning of middle school. However, in the 8th grade, she started demonstrating difficulty
understanding some of her work. Increased difficulties were noted when she was required to
work with abstract concepts rather than rely on rote memorization. Donna had always been
fascinated with flowers, and she could remember the details of hundreds of different species of
wild and domestic flower she encountered.
Donna’s classmates and cousins thought she was odd, and her mother said that Donna was
frequently picked on—at times without even realizing she was being made fun of. Donna was
described as a confused and socially awkward girl who tended to keep to herself. The incident
that led to her first psychological evaluation occurred after one of her classmates teased her
repeatedly over several days to the point of making Donna upset. Donna decided to write a
threatening note to the student as a warning for him to stop. The note included details of which
species of flowers would be found growing on top of the place he would be buried. The boy’s
parents brought the note to the principal and Donna was suspended from school and charged
with terroristic threatening. The school ordered a psychological evaluation and risk assessment
before they allowed her to return to school.
Donna was observed to have awkward mannerisms, and she smiled at what appeared to be
inappropriate times, for example, when she was talking about the teasing at school. She made
very poor eye contact in ways that were atypical for her culture, and she had a difficult time
staying on topic, frequently shifting the topic of conversation onto her interest in flower.
Donna’s intelligence was found to be in the upper limits of the average range on the Wechsler
Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition (WISC-V). The Gilliam Asperger's Disorder Scale
as rated by Donna and her mother together was in the clinically significant range, with her
largest deficits being reflected in her social interactions scale. There were also deficits noted in
pragmatic skills, restricted patterns of behavior, and cognitive patterns. Problems were also noted
with reciprocal social interaction skills, communication skills, and stereotyped behaviors,
interests, and activities.
Donna's QEEG results showed multiple abnormalities. Her right parietal-temporal lobe showed
excessively slow activity. This is an area important for facial recognition and empathy. She also

The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. - 1. Sherry is a 17-year-old Black high school senior. She is from an upper-middle-class family where academic and career success are extremely important, as is their religion. She is the third of five children. Until recently she was always a good student, hardworking, but somewhat self-critical. She is reported to be shy but always had several friends and has dated occasionally in the past. During the summer before her senior year, Sherry went out of state to an academic camp at a prestigious college. While there she began to experience auditory hallucinations and delusions. She also began to act in bizarre ways and withdraw from people. She was hospitalized for 1 month shortly after returning home. She is now reportedly unable to complete work at school, and her promising future appears questionable. There is no history of psychiatric illness in the family. Cognitively she reports experiencing auditory, persecutory hallucinations and delusions as well as frequent cognitions like, "I'm no good," "I can't do anything," "I'll always be this way." Affectively she had flat affect and anxiety related to interpersonal situations and tasks and the content of the hallucinations and delusions. Interpersonally she is withdrawn and socially isolated. Behaviorally she is inactive and her basic self-care is severely limited.
