The Kenyan transport and communications sectors grew in 2013. Cargo handled at the Port of Mombasa increased 1.8% to 22.3 million tonnes while railway freight dropped. White petroleum product volumes through pipelines rose. The communications value added grew 6.2% with mobile connections up to 31.2 million and internet subscriptions doubling to 13.3 million. Mobile money transfers also increased remarkably from KSh1672 billion to KSh1914 billion over the period.
