This document outlines the role of a mentor in delivering employer literacy and numeracy training. The mentor acts as a liaison between employers and training providers to identify organizational, vocational, and skills for life needs. As someone who knows the job well, the mentor is best suited to assess trainees' skills on a daily basis and provide feedback. The mentor also helps embed literacy and numeracy training into vocational programs. To fulfill this role, the mentor receives qualifications in literacy, language, numeracy, ICT, coaching, and mentoring, although they do not need to be a subject matter expert in basic skills.
