Alzheimer's Disease in North America is a growing concern. In fact as our population age, dementia is a growing concern globally.
As an Alzheimer's care partner myself, I have been doing a lot of research on both the implications to our society and caring for a patient with the disease. As a result, I prepared this "Alzheimer's Disease in North America" infographic to give a snapshot or quick reference of the disease and a summary of what to expect as both a patient and care partner or giver. I prepared this for my family as a quick resource. I share this with you or others who are also having to take this journey.
Today's consumers, or "COMsumers", are internet-savvy, social, and value their online networks and communities. They conduct research, make comparisons, and seek recommendations from friends before making purchasing decisions. COMsumers demand transparency, authenticity, and commitment from brands. They expect two-way communication and will collaborate with companies to develop desired products and services. If brands provide a positive customer experience and engage on social media, COMsumers will become loyal advocates.
Have you ever thought about how you are using your time?
At the end of the day we have a finite time to live on this earth. Our clock starts counting down as soon as we are born. If we did the calculations, would the numbers reflect our intent?
As we review the world’s statistics on human life expectancy, the world average life span is 68 years. The longest average life expectancy is in Japan with an average life-span of 83 years.
How do we, in North America, compare to that number. Well, we are better than the world average but surprisingly we are not in the top 10. Canada ranks #11 with a life expectancy of 82 years; US ranks at #40 with an expectancy of 79 years.
I thought I would write a post on why corporate blogs are important, as I am perplexed when I still hear business leaders refer to blogs in distaste. Why is that?
If there is another option to connect with your customers, clients and/or prospects why would you not leverage that?
This infographic shows that value and a roadmap of how.
This is based on two blog posts on socialmediapearls.com
Shirley offers social media services and can be contacted via email at info@socialmediapearls.com for more information on working together. The document provides a brief email address for contacting Shirley regarding potential collaboration on social media projects or services.
This document discusses how time is spent in an average lifetime. It notes that the average lifetime in the US is 79 years and 82 years in Canada. It then provides statistics on how much time on average is spent working (29 years), sleeping (26 years), watching TV (9 years), housework (4 years), online (3.5 years), waiting in line (2.5 years), at stoplights (0.5 years), eating (3 years), grooming (2 years), shopping (1 year), kissing (2 weeks). It asks how the reader invests their own time. It then credits various Flickr users for images.

It describes them as having a glass half full attitude, being driven to be the best, willing to take risks, understanding the need to fail fast and pivot quickly. There is a quiet movement happening.
The social movement. It is being driven by the ordinary person. This deck describes the rise of the consumer and social media
The document summarizes reasons why patients blog about their health conditions and reasons they may not share their blogs with their doctors. It notes that over 40% of patient bloggers share their blogs with healthcare providers, while 90% share with friends and family. Patients blog for reasons such as having a story to tell, needing an outlet, regaining a sense of inclusion and purpose, connecting with others, and managing their situation. However, patients may not share their blogs with doctors because they do not want their writing discounted, to feel invisible, shamed, or have their feelings "clinicalized" by clinicians.

My seven step approach to strategic planning. Keeping it simple, alive and adaptable. This should not be an event and stored in the senior management files. To realize the vision and strategy, it should be treated as a living thing ie ALIVE and ACTIONED. In this presentation I describe my seven step approach to strategy.
The seven steps are scan, vision, strategy, objectives, plan, deploy and monitor.
Scan. Gather data to inform. Internal and External data are key before going into a vision exercise. Regulatory, social, competitive data are a must. Understanding your organizations SWOTs should be presented as part of the data analysis. Make it a team effort. Please forget the Wizard of Oz approach. Gather data to prepare key information and in turn gain critical knowledge for the future.
2. Vision: stretch to create. Where are we heading? What is the north star? Is it compelling? Again team approach. You will be amazed what creativity exists in the organization.
3. Strategy: Focus to complete. How will that vision be realized? What will be the focus and competitive advantage?
4. Objectives: Target to win. SMART objectives. How will the objectives ALIGN with the organization and balanced scorecard. Detailing a strategy map aligned to both the organization and balanced scorecard is key. What are the critical KPIs for the future? And how will we measure when we get there.
5. Plan: Scenarios to ensure. So what is the plan? How will the objectives be achieved. BUT what about the different scenarios that can surface? What are the most likely scenario? Critical scenario? What are the plans for those? What is the change management strategy? Communication Strategy? How will the organization ADAPT?
6. Deploy: I am a firm believer that people implement what they have been involved in. Engagement is key, if one is to succeed. All the above must have a level of shared ownership.
7, Monitor: implement to perform. Implementation not only includes putting the building blocks in place but also monitoring to assess performance. Implementing quick wins to magnify mobilization and value. Monitoring also helps navigate through changes in the environment. The organization must flex its agility and adaptability to ride the change of the environmental forces. Which leads to……
The 5As. The 5 Attributes which are critical to success.
The 5 As [Attributes] are Align, Action, Alive, Adapt and Agile. Planning must have these qualities. Everyone has a part in implementing strategy and hence Alignment is key, so that it can be Actioned. Strategy is Alive; it must be integrated into work activities and must have the ability to adapt with the critical changing environment. It must be agile if one is going to win.
The 7 steps and cyclical and lives with the entire organization.
