Initial and final setting times are responsible for the quality of concrete . So it is very much recommended to check the details of cement before using . I mean you have to check what is its initial and setting time .We can also use few admixtures to control the setting time of cement. Also surrounding’s condition can influence.

2. Introduction
when cement is mixed with water a new bond is formed . This new bond is basically formed between components of cement .
Hydration process of cement started. This process we all know as hydrolysis of cement . Initial and final setting time of cement
is very important properties of cement that is very much responsible for the quality of the concrete . During construction we
must check this .
Setting time of cement is divided into two types:
i) initial setting time
2) Final setting time
3. Initial Setting Time
Initial setting time of cement means when the cement paste starts loosing its plasticity. First when water
is added to cement, a new chemical reaction between water and cement component happens .
Initial setting time of cement (OPC -Ordinary Portland Cement) is 30 minutes as we all know. Means the
cement mortar or concrete has to be placed within this time after that the paste will be hardened and you
cannot place it what you wanted to do with .
4. Final Setting Time
Final setting time of cement means when the cement paste or concrete completely loses its
plasticity.Concrete hardens enough and finally converted into its predefined shape fully . We cannot
make any changes over it. We can remove formwork after a time period.
Final setting time of OPC -Ordinary Portland Cement is 10 hrs (600 mins) .
