(HLS402) Getting into Your Genes: The Definitive Guide to Using Amazon EMR, A...Amazon Web Services
The key to fighting cancer through better therapeutics is a deep understanding of the basic biology of this disease at a cellular and molecular level. Comprehensive analysis of cancer mutations in specific tumors or cancer cell lines by using Life Technologies sequencing and real-time PCR systems generates gigabytes to terabytes of data every day. Our customers bring together this data in studies that seek to discover the genetic fingerprint of cancer. The data typically translates to millions of records in databases that require complex algorithmic processing, cross-application analysis, and interactive visualizations with real-time response (2-3 seconds) to enable users to consume large volumes of complex scientific information.
We have chosen the AWS platform to bring this new era of data analysis power to our customers by using technologies such as Amazon S3, ElastiCache, and DynamoDB for storage and fast access and Amazon EMR for parallelizing complex computations. Our talk tells the story with rich details about challenges and roadblocks in building data-intense, highly interactive applications in the cloud. We also highlight enhanced customer workflows and highly optimized applications with orders of magnitude improvement in performance and scalability.
AWS re:Invent 2016: Workshop: AWS Professional Services Effective Architectin...Amazon Web Services
The AWS Professional Services team will be facilitating an architecture workshop exercise for certified AWS Architects. Class size will be limited to 48. This workshop will be a highly interactive architecture design exercise where the class will be randomly divided into teams and given a business case for which they will need to design an effective AWS solution. Past participants have found the interaction with people from other organizations and the creative brainstorming that occurs across 6 different teams greatly enhances the learning experience. Flipcharts will be provided and students are encouraged to bring their laptops to document their designs. Each team will be expected to present their solution to the class.
BDA402 Deep Dive: Log Analytics with Amazon Elasticsearch ServiceAmazon Web Services
Everything generates logs. Applications, infrastructure, security ... everything. Keeping track of the flood of log data is a big challenge, yet critical to your ability to understand your systems and troubleshoot (or prevent) issues. In this session, we will use both Amazon CloudWatch and application logs to show you how to build an end-to-end log analytics solution. First, we cover how to configure an Amazon Elaticsearch Service domain and ingest data into it using Amazon Kinesis Firehose, demonstrating how easy it is to transform data with Firehose. We look at best practices for choosing instance types, storage options, shard counts, and index rotations based on the throughput of incoming data and configure a secure analytics environment. We demonstrate how to set up a Kibana dashboard and build custom dashboard widgets. Finally, we dive deep into the Elasticsearch query DSL and review approaches for generating custom, ad-hoc reports.

Managing your AWS Organization using org-formationOlaf Conijn
AWS Organizations is great way to mange serverless applications across different AWS Accounts (like development and production). At Moneyou we have considerable experience managing large and complex serverless application that need to adhere to the highest of standards. The tool we use to do this is called org-formation and has sparked quite some interest by other companies doing serverless.
Organizations today are increasingly looking for faster and cost effective ways to develop and test products before deployment. Often, in an on-premise environment, it can be time consuming to obtain compute resources such as servers or it's usual to have multiple environments so that development and testing can take place outside the production environment. That often involves duplication of infrastructure with associated costs and ongoing maintenance effort. Together, these factors can lower your pace of innovation. An easy way to get started using Amazon Web Services is by deploying development and test workloads.

Database Oracle e VMware Cloud™ on AWS: i miti da sfatareAmazon Web Services
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
