This document discusses how traditional Korean Hanok architecture has adapted to the changing sociocultural context of 21st century urban settings in South Korea. It examines how Hanok spatial typology and hierarchy have been influenced by the evolution from a Confucian-based social system to a more democratic and individualistic society. Specifically, it explores how the roles of spaces like the courtyard have changed from serving occupational needs to accommodating personal preferences as social classes emerged and gender roles became less defined.
