Introduction


∗ Over the past few years children have become victims
  of bullying on the internet
∗ Cyber bullying according to Barnados is “When
  instant messages, emails, text messages or webpages
  are used to spread rumours, make threats or harass.
  It can include written messages, photographs, videos
  or voice messages.”
Statistics


∗ - 43% of children have been bullied online
  - 70% of students report seeing bullying online
  - Mobile phone is the most common medium
  - 81% of young people believe bullying online is
  easier than bulling in person
  - 10% of victims will inform their parents of cyber
  bullying
  - Girls have more chance of being cyber bullied
  - Bullied victims are 2 to 9 times more likely to
  consider committing suicide

 ∗ Lived at home in Buffalo, New York with his family

   sexuality, he was gay
 ∗ September 8, 2011, Jamey committed suicide
 ∗ Throughout his experience he made YouTube videos
   talking about his experience which are inspirational
 ∗ Lady Gaga dedicated her song “Hair” to Jamey
Case Study: Carney Bonner a former
                 cyber-bully victim


∗ From Swindon, England
∗ Bullied through Facebook badly, he was left very
  offensive messages
∗ Bullying went on for a year
∗ Slit his wrists after what he thought was a joke got
  worse and worse
∗ The culprit was found, he thought the culprit was a
  friend
∗ Carney is now a cyber-mentor and helps other victims,
  other victims are now reporting bullying due to Carney
Case Study:Donegal sister’s




∗ The Gallagher sisters were from Ballybofey, Donegal
∗ Bullied through a Facebook site called Ask.fm
∗ Ask.fm – site members can post any question or
  statement that they want and not see who is posting
  the comments
∗ Erin took her life after the bullying got too much on
  the 7th of October 2012
∗ On 12th of December her sister Shannon took her life
  because she missed her sister so much
