I wanted to do my part to help repair the world (tikkun olam) so I used the web to build a billion dollar global industry. Do you want to know how? Come and hear my story. A tale of Rabbis and miracles. A tale of Jews, Christians, Muslims and a Marxist. A tale of fake news and fishing. [Obviously I won't be a secret any more after this session.]

We need to stop measuring volunteer contributions by how much and for how long. We should be measuring it by impact and attitude. Presentation given at NW Drupal User Group Unconference in Manchester, UK November 4th 2017.
In the multicultural world that we live in how do you know my name. Is my first name my last name? What is my family name and what should you call me. As web site developers we regularly ask people for their name so we can personalise the web, but are we using the correct name?

It would be easier if we all spoke englishbrian teeman
If everyone spoke english then developing web sites would be so much easier for everyone. Then I say english I do not mean american. There is no such language as american. There is english and there are mistakes.
The eight steps on the ladder for being a volunteer. Inspired by Maimonides Eight Levels of Charity. This presentation was made by Brian Teeman, co-founder Joomla in The Netherlands April 17 2016.
One Joomla install, 4 languages, 4 sub-sites 17 domains
Using one Joomla web site to produce multiple web sites has been a desire for many years.
In this session Brian will look at two options that allow you to EASILY build one Joomla web site and from that create multiple additional sub sites or language specific sites.

What is success? How do we measure success?
Is it the number of web sites using joomla? Is it the amount of money we put into our pockets - or is it simply the amount of fun we have, working with friends, to produce something amazing.
It all depends on our individual motivation
The theme for this year’s conference, Investing in our future could have no better introduction than the topic of this opening keynote. Listen as Brian explains how the investments of the Joomla! community directly shaped the current state of the project through voicing their opinion, sharing their code, and engaging with each other- the Joomla! community invested time and energy into Joomla, and the result is impressive.
Learn how Joomla is continuing to improve. Start J And Beyond with a powerfully motivating look inside the results of listening to our community. There’s no better way to begin the 2014 conference.

Presentation March 12 at the W3C Workshop Program:
Making the Multilingual Web Work
Used by over 2.8% of the web and by over 3000 government web sites, Joomla is the leading Open Source CMS. Making web sites truly multilingual, rather than relying on automated translation tools, is now a requirement. The latest release of Joomla makes building multilingual sites considerably easier, while also making them more accessible across different user agents and form factors (e.g., desktop or laptop computers, mobile phones, or tablets). This presentation will showcase how these new developments can be used in Joomla to greatly reduce the burden of building and releasing multilingual sites.
The Art of the Pitch: WordPress Relationships and SalesLaura Byrne
Clients don’t know what they don’t know. What web solutions are right for them? How does WordPress come into the picture? How do you make sure you understand scope and timeline? What do you do if sometime changes?
All these questions and more will be explored as we talk about matching clients’ needs with what your agency offers without pulling teeth or pulling your hair out. Practical tips, and strategies for successful relationship building that leads to closing the deal.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

We built a tool that created a billion dollar global industry.
We are helping to break down barriers between nationalities, religions and cultures.
We are helping to make a better world, for today and tomorrow.
Together we built a tool that helped to repair our world.
We didn’t build a tool to become billionaires. We built a completely free tool, available in almost every language, extendable and as powerful as all the alternatives and in many cases more powerful. We have given people across the world, no matter their skill level, education or spoken language the tools to feed themselves and their families for a long time ahead.
