What are the 12 ideals of Scouting?
There are 12 principles a Boy Scout lives by which is actually considered the Scout Law. "A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent." All leaders must have and live by a set of values. Scouting is all about building confidence and self-esteem, learning important life skills and leadership skills, team building, outdoor adventure, education, and fun! Scouts learn how to make good choices and to take responsibility for their actions so that they are prepared for their adult life as independent persons. The Scouting program has specific objectives, commonly referred to as the “Aims of Scouting.” They are character development, leadership development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Leadership development is also one of Scouting eight methods contributing to both good character and good citizenship. “The three points … remind the Scout of the three points of the Scout's Promise — Duty to God and the king, helpfulness to other people, and obedience to the Scout Law.”Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. Try new things. It helps in building confidence and self esteem among the students. They learn important life-skills, team building ,outdoor adventure, education and fun. It helps them to explore, to discover the world beyond classroom, and also helps in all round development .

Exasperation is good--the question is when and how fast?
Exasperation may be considered as a fundamental, natural and useful and probably productive human response.
It’s not just deep in our roots; it is our roots.
Those who discard it express with edicts like “don’t get snarky,” or “don’t call names” or “don’t interrupt me.”
Though against our will we have proliferated endless repertoire of ways to say “I’ve had it. I won’t go along with that.”
Exasperated way to express “nope,” in many words and gestures--subtle or blatant branch like tree roots.
Exasperation with things that get in our way is how we stand our ground rooted in our aspirations, commitments, beliefs and values.
When our roots get in each other’s way, we’re likely to get exasperated and then exasperated with each other’s exasperations.
Then we try to block each other’s exasperations by imposing seemingly rock-solid moral bans on one or another form exasperation takes.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

ON MY HONOR
We are persons of integrity, principle-centered, values
directed, and mission-oriented. We are highly dependable. We are
aware that our reputation and the manner by which we are perceived
by the community is a non-negotiable part of our personality. Our
beliefs are one with our words and our deeds.
I WILL DO MY BEST
We give our best in everything we do. We pursue excellence in
ourselves so we can give the best possible service that goes even beyond
the immediate need. We always go the extra mile in giving selfless service.
TO DO MY DUTY
We dwell in the realm of giving than of receiving. We think more in
terms of responsibilities than of rights, of selfless service than of self-
centered concern, of Duty than of privilege. Duty to God, Duty to others, Duty
to self. All these for the glory of God.

DUTY TO SELF
We strive to develop ourselves and acquire the competencies and
the capabilities necessary to be ready for service at all times.
+ Physically – We are aware of the importance of a healthy body in
the performance of our duties. We make sure not to abuse our body and to
develop good health habits.
+ Mentally – We have strong desire for continuous learning. No
matter how much we know, we are aware that we still know less and must
keep on learning.
+ Morally – We follow the path of righteous living and proper
conduct in our relationships and behavior. We respect the rights of others. We
do not indulge in conduct detrimental to the movement we represent and to
the principles we stand for. We place ourselves as role models for the
community and most importantly the youth and the members of our family.

THE SCOUT LAW - Explained
In relation to ourselves and our conduct and
behavior towards others, we strive to develop the
following set of values:
1. TRUSTWORTHY
We are reliable persons. People can hold on to what we say. Our
thoughts, our words, and deeds are one. We have integrity. We are
transparent in our dealings with others. We tell no lies nor half truths just to
build ourselves. We are well-anchored persons and are fully confident.
2. LOYAL
Our loyalty first and foremost is to the Supreme Being, then to
the constitution, then to our fellowmen, then to the Vision Statement of the
BSP and to the principles for which it stands. A person who stands by these
can always depend on our loyalty.
7. TOBS2000/ES/YFS/ALT/CMT
BTC-TL – The SCOUT IDEALS
3. HELPFUL
We are always ready to render assistance to anyone in need.
We help others stands on their own. However, we do not tolerate
indolence or dependence. We do not encourage mendicancy.
4. FRIENDLY
We are a friend to all. We care for people and are very
supportive of whatever is good. Our friendship, however, is not one which
tolerates the commission of what is wrong. We would rather see a friend
suffer reprimands and penalties than to allow him to develop an
unhealthy character or destroy himself by going against what is just.
5. COURTEOUS
We give due respect to all regardless of their position or social
stature. We give to everyone what is due them. We are conscious of our
time and of our appointment. We never let others wait. We always honor
our commitments.
8. TOBS2000/ES/YFS/ALT/CMT
BTC-TL – The SCOUT IDEALS
6. KIND
We are both compassionate and considerate to everyone.
We are genuinely concerned of the welfare of our fellowmen. We work
for the development, protection, and preservation of God’s creation
7. OBEDIENT
We respect GOD’s Commandments and all instructions, actions,
laws and ordinances from lawful authorities, our superiors and our elders.
We may disagree with the stand of others and argue our own stand
passionately and intensely, however, one a decision is made we obey
cheerfully as though it were our own provided that such instruction are not
violative of social and spiritual norms.
8. CHEERFUL
We are happy companion and are full of joy and good sense
of humor. We smile and laugh in the most difficult situations. We also
appreciate a joke done at our expense but never at the expense of
others. We express a feeling of gladness founded on the satisfaction of
having been of help to others.
9. TOBS2000/ES/YFS/ALT/CMT
BTC-TL – The SCOUT IDEALS
9. THRIFTY
We are frugal and save for whatever will be of great importance
and necessity in the future. We do not depend on dole outs nor leave
our financial needs to luck but preserve and work hard to earn our
keep. We rely more on the use of our God-given talents and strengths
for our needs.
10. BRAVE
Our passionate desire to serve GOD, Country and fellowmen empowers
us to overcome fear and timidity and gives us the strength to fight for what is
right no matter what the cost. Being brave does not only mean overcoming
the fear of bodily pain or death for a noble cause but also means being able
to say no in favor of what is right when everyone else is saying yes in favor of
what is wrong. Bravery also means to conquer ones self and the exercise of
self-control.
10. TOBS2000/ES/YFS/ALT/CMT
BTC-TL – The SCOUT IDEALS
11. CLEAN
We are deeply aware of the importance of cleanliness in
relation to keeping ourselves physically fit. We make certain that we are
always clean in our person and neat in our appearance, clean in our
thoughts, words and deeds. Our morality is beyond question as we are
aware of our influence upon the young and upon the people who know
and respect us. Our clean and healthy habits, however, do not end in
ourselves. Conscious of our role in the development of society, we
make certain that our environment, our neighborhood and our
community is clean, beautiful and healthy.
12. REVEREND
We have deep faith, hope, love and respect for GOD. This we
manifest in the performance of our religious obligations and in giving selfless
service to our fellowmen. We do not indulge in senseless religious
discussions and debates nor oblige others to practice our own faith. We
respect the religious belief of others.
