1. Cut or split the loaf of bread in half without using a
wedge.
2. Cut the loaf of bread with a bread knife.
3. Identify which part of the utensil is the wedge.

A wedge is similar to an inclined plane because its parts with
the sharp edges can be likened to two inclined planes placed
back to back.
You can think of a wedge as two inclined planes that meet at a
point. Teeth, axe blades, knives, and door stops are all
wedges.
