SENSE ORGANS
SKIN
MONTUEWEDTHUFRIWKND
TODAY'S TASK
● They receive stimuli
from our surrounding
and they grouped
together to form sense
organs
STIMULI
MONTUEWEDTUEFRIWKND
The message which we
receive from our
environment is called
stimuli
SENSORY CELL
SENSE
ORGANS
• Skin
• Nose
• Tongue
• Eye
• Ear
SKIN
SKIN
TUEWEDFRIWKNDTHU
• 1.8 Square meter
• Protect bones and muscles
• Control temperature
• Makes vitamin D in the presence
of sunlight
• Also a sense organ
• Sensitive to touch pain
pressureheat and cold
THE LAYERS
OF
SKIN
Skin is made up of two layers
Epidermis
Dermis
OUTER SKIN
Made up of dead cells
Surface of eyes hair skin
nails are made up of dead
cells
Epi means outer
Dermis means skin
OUTER SKIN EPIDERMIS
 Top layer of skin
 Made up of dead flattened
cells which make a tough
water proof cover
 20 k.g of dead skin is shed
by an average adult in life
time
 Lower layer of skin
is called dermis
 Contain sweat and
oil gland 'blood
vessels and fat
 Also contain many
nerve endings.,
where the senses of
touch , pressure,
pain and
temperature are
located
EPIDERMIS DERMIS
PAIN
PAIN
RECEPTORS
 Pain receptors are
evenly distributed. over
the skin
 Pain is useful because
it act as a warning
TEMPERATURE
WKND
 Heat and cold
receptors are present
in skin
 Finger tips can detect
temperature
differences as small as
0.5C
TOUCH
AND
PRESSURE
 Most touch receptors and pressure
receptors in the skin of the tongue
and fingertips
