School Life Jake Polonsky

Representation – This film is about youth, and one innocent boy who
struggles at school due to only having one friend who is slightly
rebellious and bunks off. The film represents the problems the boy
faces and how he just want some answers, which he eventually finds
out. The boy is represented as a bit of a geek who no body really pays
attention to.

Institution – This short film was produced by an independent
filmmaker called Jake Polonsky, and was filmed in London.

Values – Dialogue is used which helps communicate to the viewer
what is going on. There are also a lot of close up shots of Stanley’s
face to show how he reacts to certain situations and what his emotion
towards it is, which also helps the viewer to receive the message.

Audience – This film is aimed at young males who can relate to
Stanley, who may be lonely or being bullied.

Language – Realism is represented accurately as an original school is
used, and they are all wearing school uniforms which identifies that
they are all equal and they are all students, except the teachers who
wear smartwear and are seen as more superior. Stanley looks well
turned out and smart, which represents his character well, where as
the bully is more scruffy looking.
Ideology – The preferred reading of the film could possibly be that
there’s no guidelines to life, look after yourself even if other people
choose to ignore or pick on you.

Narrative – There is simple continuity, and a real flow to the film from
beginning to end which keeps young viewers interested, and doesn’t
let their mind wander.

Genre - This is a Teen Drama as it is set in a school, and confronts
the issue of bullying.
