3. GAZA, Palestine State, July 28, 2014 - As
hostilities entering its twenty-first day, the
number of children dying is increasing. More
than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed so
far, of which about 230 were children. The
youngest child killed had only 3 months.
4. About 2,000 children have been injured in
the narrow coastal enclave, where half the
population is under 18.
5. The physical and psychological toll that
violence poses to people is almost
indescribable," said Pernille Ironside, Chief of
Field Office of UNICEF in Gaza. "We see
children killed, wounded, mutilated and
burned, besides being deeply terrified. The
consequences are much more severe than
previous outbreaks "
6.
7. The childhood of many children is being
destroyed, and many of them begin to show
lasting physical and emotional scars as they
face the third episode of conflict in six years.
. "Usually, children are very resilient and
recover, but when they go through many
violent episodes, the violence itself becomes
the new normal; says Bruce Grant, Head of
Child Protection for UNICEF State of Palestine.
