▶ ‘’Exemption of drugs from provision of import’’
DRUGS COME UNDER SCHEDULE D ARE ;
 Substances not intended for medicinal use.
 Substances which are used both as articles of food as well as drugs;
- All condensed or powdered milk.
- Farex, oats, latex & other cereal preparations expecting those for parenteral
preparation.
 Drugs & Cosmetics imported for manufacture & exported by units situated in ‘Special
Economic Zone’ as notified by Gov. Of India from time to time
THE DRUGS SPECIFIED IN SCHEDULE D ARE EXEMPTED
FROM PROVISIONS REGULATING IMPORT OF DRUGS AS
FOLLOWS
CLASS OF DRUGS EXTENT & CONDITIONS OF EXCEMPTION
 Substances not intended for
medicinal use
Can be importedwithout any restriction provided
imported in bulk & importer certificates that is
importedfor non medicinal use. If imported
otherwise then is bulk, each container shall bear a
label indicating the substance is not intended for
medicinal use.
 Substance used both as drugs as
well as articles of food.
Eg ; Condensed/powdered milk
whether pure, skimmedor malted,
Farex, oats, lactose, other cereal
preparations expecting those for
parenteral preparation.
Exempted from all provisions regulating import
CLASS OF DRUG EXTENT & CONDITIONS OF EXCEMPTION
 Virol, Bovril, Chicken essence & all other
similarpre-digested foods.
 Ginger, pepper, cumin,Cinnamon and all
other similarspices & condimentsother than
those of official quantity.
Exempted from all provisions regulating
import.
 Drugs & Cosmeticsimportedfor
manufacture & export by units situated in
‘Special Economic Zones’as notifiedby
Gov. Of India from time to time.
Can be importedwithout any restriction
provided covered by an import licence,
import registration & importedthrough
notifiedport of entry, subject to the
conditions that these drugs & cosmetics shall
not be diverted for sale in the country. Such
imported drugs & cosmetics may however be
permitted to the domestic area if they meet
the requirement of standard procedure for
import & registration.
