Jim Gordon, CEO of Gordon Food Service and fourth generation in the family business, presented at the December 2012 Stevens Center for Family Business Meeting. Gordon Food Service is a 115 year old, Michigan-based family business that is the largest family-owned food distributorship in North America. Gordon emphasized that the company has been able to drive growth through embracing change while maintaining its family culture and cornerstone values. He outlined several keys to growth in a family business, including engaging in personal growth, being open to new ideas, having outside board members, establishing a clear structure, and making customer service the top priority.
