Impact Storytelling: 3 parts to every great story, and 1 part to always leave...brandiolson
You know that telling stories about the work you do is critical to engaging stakeholders and raising money—so you probably tell a lot of stories. There are some incredible people doing amazing things in your program, but are your stories powerful enough? Do they explain your impact and compel others to take action? What makes for an effective story? It will probably surprise you.
Non-profit organizations do not have the luxury of large bank accounts for-profit businesses have; they depend in large part on donations from their supporters and grants for funding.

CYAN is a youth driven organization that promotes and fosters the value of community service, engagement, wellness and leadership. Youth aged 12+ are inspired to engage in a lifetime of volunteerism, skill building, initiative and civic leadership.
The Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) program is an ecumenical, faith-based year of service for young people, ages 19-30. Partners around the world and across the United States invite volunteers to accompany local agencies working to address root causes of poverty and reconciliation. This year of service and accompaniment challenges young people to reimagine ideas of service to a responsibility to engage with complicity and perpetuation of unjust social arrangements while exploring the meaning and motivation of their faith. Wells Fargo participates in community youth summit
By Mariana Phipps, Regional
Communications, Bay Area Region
On Saturday May 9th, 2015, a group of Wells
Fargo team members participated at in the
2015 Annual Youth Summit organized by
Contra Costa County’s Supervisor Federal
Glover of District 5 in Pittsburg, CA. The event
was held at Pittsburg High School. Team
member SaVita Davis, along with San
Francisco-based Wells Fargo bankers Edgar Lara, Jeff Bouck, Yvette Reyes and Bianca Trinidad
volunteered for a hands-on teaching opportunity on financial education and relationship building with
our community and clients.
This year's theme is "It Starts With Us," and is centered on finding the value of each person regardless
of their differences and as a community unifying and embracing the difference in social, ethnic,
economic and linguistic backgrounds. The Supervisor’s goal is targeting the issues youth face and
finding solutions as a community. In doing so Supervisor Glover provided informational tables and
workshops covering everything from teen violence, health and exercise, community church outreach,
sports and banking and finance.
“This is an event that my heart is invested into. I have a deep passion for the youth and their success,”
said SaVita Davis, San Francisco-based paralegal at Wells Fargo. “I enjoy unlocking the doors to who
they are and finding out how I can be positioned in their life to navigate them to their financial succes.
I am determined to carry the torch of financial literacy as a way of educating and building relationships
in my community.”
Davis has been representing Wells Fargo at this event since 2010. She teaches a well-rounded class
covering key areas concerning our youth and their future success with a very personal approach. Some
of the topics she covers are the basics of banking, preparing for success and how to budget.
“For the past several years, Wells Fargo has been a key partner in working with various stakeholders in
Contra Costa County in an effort to increase financial literacy and consequently result in communities
that are more stable,” said Holland B. White, special projects coordinator for Supervisor Glover. “It is
especially important to Supervisor Federal Glover that the bank values our youth population enough to
do such a vital presentation at our annual Youth Summit. Such strategic partnerships are important to
public agencies, and important to future of strong communities. For Wells Fargo’s commitment to our
communities, we are grateful.”
At the event Davis shared with the youth her personal testimony of her struggles and success in
reaching her goals. With a class of 40 students (ages 10-17) and parents the class was filled to
capacity. Davis' husband, Lamont Davis, has been a great support for the past five years at this event.
He helps in crowd control, seating and by engaging with the youth and parents.
Students and parents were engaged asking and answering questions. Parents shared their stories
which brought some to tears. Employees at other schools as well as other large businesses and
churches asked if the presentation could be held at their place of business to bridge a connection for
financial literacy.
Team member Yvette Reyes concluded that walking away from this event, and a new way of thinking,
left her nothing less than inspired. The voices of parents, students and attendees were one of comfort
and appreciation that Wells Fargo took the time to teach and educate. Team member Bianca Trinidad
said it best, “It was an eye opener and it really gave me a sense of fulfillment. These are the little
things that we can do for our community. And being a part of it made me feel that you can always
make an impact in someone’s future, sometimes even their present situation.”
