2. Introduction
 The concept of tourism in India is as old as its civilization.
Yes, some 5000 years ago the Indus valley civilization had
erected structures and facilities for travelers.
 By then travel and tourism was mostly centered on
pilgrimage. But with the growth of empires by rulers of
different dynasties it acquired a new meaning altogether. So
far so, even international tourism was a regular feature in
India then.
 In short hospitality was, an inherent part of Indian culture
and service to the guest was considered at par with service
to God. One will not be surprised to find the continuity of
the same tradition even today.

3. International Tourism has witnessed unprecedented growth
over past about seven decades, now assuming the status of
‘largest’ and yet the ‘fastest’ growing Industry of the world.
India for introducing and nurturing the concept of organized
travels in the form PILGRIMAGES, deserves to be credited as
the pioneer of modern day TOURISM.
The philosophy of ‘Chareveti - Chareveti’ and ‘Atithi Devo
Bhava’ coined and lived by the country for thousands of years
now, amply speaks of the sacred objective of promoting
‘Tourism’ in the form of ‘Deshatan’ and ‘Teerthatan’.

5. Bundelkhand – Historical Background
The history of land of Bundelas, better known as Bundelkhand, dates back to
history of Indian civilization itself and replete with the historic sites and
monuments as mute witness to the importance of this region since time
immemorial.
As a happening region, Bundelkhand’s historic lamdmarks include the rule of
might dynasties like Chnadelas and Bundelas. Bundelkhand comprises of
Jhansi, Lalitpur, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Banda and Mahoba district of Uttar
Pradesh and Sagar, Chhattarpur, Tikamgarh, Panna, Datia, Damoh, Shipuri,
Chanderi and part of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.
Located in the central part of Indian Sub-continent, between latitudes 240 to
26.300 North and 78010’ to 810 30’ East is the Land of Bundelas known as
Bundelkhand.

6. Selection of the Problem
The particular study is concentrated on monuments, museums,
historical sites, shrines and available historical touristic places in
Bundelkhand region. With due aspects of literature reviewed
statement of the problem is been framed to conceptualise on
tourist resources as potential touristic places.
Statement of the Problem
The problem of research could be started as under:
“Tourist Resource Potential in Bundelkhand Region with
special reference to Monuments, Museums, Historical Sites.”

7. Significance of the Study
 The study would systematically enlist, map and document the tourism resource
potentials of Bundelkhand region, which may prove to be a ready reference for
those concerned with tourism.
 The present piece of research would inculcate understanding among the various
players of the tourism.
 In the study area about the actual tourist demands in both quantitative and
qualitative term and accordingly review their planning/ Marketing strategies
including repositioning of their products and services.
 The study looks forward to be instrumental, to whatever extent, in anticipating
the growth and development of tourism, in the state in long-term perspective
through cautions utilization of the resources and bringing a positive touristic
image of Bundelkhand region.

8. Objective of Study
 To examine an explore the domestic and foreign tourists trends in Bundelkhand region
alongside identifying the fabulous monumental, historical and religious heritage of
Bundelkhand.
 To prepare an inventory of the Tour magnetism of the study area alongside mapping the
major architectural marvels.
 To make an in-depth study of various Institution and their management approaches in
the preservation effort towards the heritage of the Bundelkhand.
 To critically perceptualize the major bottleneck on the way of integrated and
sustainable conservation of the glorious past alongside suggesting viable strategies for
harnessing the same for the tourism development.

9. Hypothesis
Some of the tentative hypothesis for the problem under study is as folows:
The monuments, museums, and historical sites of the Bundelkhand
are rare architectural marvel and are comprehensively attracting the
tourist traffic to the region.
The Institutions and Organizations involved in the preservation and
conservation of these tourist places are also prudently employing the state
of art technology.
The monumental resource of the region are not being effectively
utilized in the tourism development.

10. Modus Operandi
The relevant information on the study area shall be gathered from the
authentic secondary sources including books, research papers, journals,
project reports, State and Central Govt. publications and other published and
unpublished reports from authentic institutes.
The Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the tour magnetism of the rich
architectural heritage shall be based on the possible secondary survey of
literature and the commonly used tools and methodological expression shall
be employed whenever necessary.
A detailed questionnaire for various sample groups and effective data,
interpretation techniques too shall be decided keeping in view the viability of
the same.
The scholar after undertaking in depth study and analysis of the state of the
problem, shall suggest models and paradigm for selected topic along with the
suggesting recommendations on issues pertaining to human resources
making, preservation trade associations, do’s and don’ts.

11. Limitations Of Study
As it is apparent from the above discussion, limited works
are available on the subject of present research. This fact
obviously would compel the researchers to consistently
interact with govt. Organizations, tourism scholars and
experts from allied field to keep on improving the data
collection and interpretation techniques in order to reach
to nearly authentic conclusion Time, money and manpower
would again be a major restrain areas in view of these
comprehensively large framework of the present study.
