1) Students at Satya Bharti School in Mohanpur village, Haryana launched a "Nasha Mukti" (freedom from intoxication) campaign to address alcoholism in their community. 2) They raised awareness through rallies, role plays, counseling, and door-to-door visits. This led community members and the village leader to take oaths to stop drinking. 3) As a result of the student's efforts, alcohol use and spending in the village declined. Parents and others in the community praised the students for addressing this issue.

2. INTRODUCTION Bharti Foundation Philanthropic arm of Bharti Group Companies. Set up to help underprivileged children and young people of our country realize their potential. Satya Bharti School Program Flagship program of Bharti Foundation. It aims to deliver free quality education to underprivileged children, with special focus on the girl child across rural India. 3. About the Community Geographical Location: Mohanpur village is situated near Kanina 18 K.M. from district Mohindergarh. Sandy & gravel soil. Socio- Economic Background: Major casts are : Ahir, Chamar, Brahman, Valmiki, Kumhar, etc. Dominating castes : Ahir Main source of earning is agriculture, animal husbandry, labor, etc. Population : 1750, Literacy Rate: 32% and Sex Ratio: 668

4. We ‘Feel’: The condition of Mohanpur villages is so bad that even during day time peoples are found drunkard. Most of the people spend their earning on wine. As a result ladies of village have to work to bring up their children .In a survey 45% parents were found involved in the evil of drinking. After over all calculation, students felt that the community members waste near about 78000/- on wine. Besides it they waste three months in a year on average in drinking.

5. After over all discussion in school, we met the sarpanch and shared our concern. He was very impressed with us and told that he was planning for the same campaign for a long time. He assured to help at every step to make the campaign success . Going Out

6. We ‘Imagined’ We imagine that our village should free from the evil of drinking. The mentor teacher planned with the students that the following activities will help in this program. They prepare an action plan. - Rally Role Play Counseling Door to door visit Slogan on walls

7. We ‘Did’ A rally was organized with the posters showing the harms of drinking. Individual counseling of the community members.

8. We ‘Did’ A role pay was organized in the chaupal to give the massage that the habit of drinking leads to family quarrel, economic losss,decline in social respect, health problem etc. Community Meeting

10. It was a very wonderful initiative taken by the students of Satya Bharti School. They have changed the thinking of community members. Now every person is feeling that how small children are aware about this evil while we have wasted our wealth, health and respect. Sh.Bijender Singh says that my son studies in 5 th class in Satya Bharti School. One evening he sat near my bed and asked about the profit and loss of wine. In a picture he showed me that there is only and only loss .Loss of wealth, health and respect. That day he opened my eye and I gave up drinking. Appreciation from Parents

11. Impact on Community: Community members realized t their responsibilities or accountability for family and village. Near about 45 person with sarpanch took an oath not to use alcohol in future.

12. Impact on “Us” Students felt leadership quality . Students start initiating on “awareness of social evil” in the community. Community members praised and gave the gifts to motivate the students.

13. The Road Ahead…..(in the next 3 months) Regular follow up for the program. Poster displaying at common places of the village. List of the volunteers who will keep watch and will counsel the members who have taken an oath.
