The National Association of State Treasurers expressed concern that Milwaukee would lose a $1.2 million economic boost if the 2012 annual conference was not held there. The conference location was secured by State Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass, who is up for re-election and faces a challenger who has pledged to eliminate the office of State Treasurer. Without an office of State Treasurer, the conference would not take place in Wisconsin and Milwaukee would lose out on the significant revenue.
