Accomplishments
Transnet:
1. I successfully completed train driver exams after 6 years as train assistant on own
initiative and I studied for the exams in my spare time.
2. I enrolled with Unisa for the NADSAM at my own cost.
3. During my career at Transnet I managed to find an alternative solution for an
extremely unsafe condition where a sand dry room operated by a burner using LPG
gas, where sand was dried to fill locomotive sand boxes. The workers were exposed
to explosion risk in the event on a gas leak. I stopped the operation and arranged
for bagged sand to be delivered for the sand boxes on the locomotives, the sand is
used to improve adhesion between the locomotive wheels and the tracks.
6. 4. I ensured punctual logistics by means of managing the kombis to transport relieving
train personnel and also personnel picked up at their homes with company kombis
and also successfully managed train schedule logistics in order to ensure a
predictable service to satisfy the customers and also to look after the company
interests.
5. I was a section manager managing more than one hundred personnel and I
successfully managed cases of sexual harassment, refusal of duty, and also
intoxication on duty.
6. I always manage situations in such a manner that the alleged offender as well as
the company benefit by means of treating the alleged offender with the necessary
dignity and respect to ensure that the individual is positive and do not feel he/she
is a “hopeless case”
I also represent the company as Manager in such a manner that the individual
believes in the core values of the company.
7. I implemented and maintained the SHEQ management system at Transnet depot in
Ogies
Accomplishments:
BombelaMaintenance:(Gautrain)
1. I identified several unsafe conditions which were due to unsafe design of the
infrastructure, the signals on viaducts and bridges were not equipped with signal
rings to serve as engineering control to prevent technicians falling from heights and
a 25 KV overhead lines make off which was unsafe due to the fact that tools and
equipment could come in contact with live high voltage, I suggested that steel mesh
could be fixed to the handrails to prevent this from happening and I consistently
followed up on the recommendations I made to ensure the employers duty to ensure
a safe workplace as per the OHS Act is fulfilled.
2. I manage 5 sub- contractors consisting of approximately of 60 personnel and also
BMC consisting of 130 personnel and I feel that the establishment of a safety culture
is on track.
