3. BIOGRAPHY
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel the iron-man of
India was born on 31st October 1875, in
a small village in Nadiad. His father
Jhaverbhai Patel was a simple farmer
and his mother Laad Bai was a simple
lady. From his childhood itself, Patel was
a very hard-working individual.
5. EARLY LIFE
He used to help his father in
farming and studied in a school at
N. K. High School, Petlad. He
passed the examination at his high
school in 1896. Throughout school,
he was a very wise and
intelligent student.
7. SOCIAL WORK
He started his practice in Ahmedabad
and soon he became aware of the local
life, activities, and people's problems.
He became an extremely popular person
and he got elected in the Municipal
Corporation in 1917. Around 1915, he
came across Mahatma Gandhi. The
Swadeshi Movement was at its peak.
9. FIGHTING FOR
INDEPENDENCE
Patel won an election to become the
sanitation commissioner of Ahmedabad in
1917. Patel gave a speech in Borsad in
September 1917, encouraging Indians
nationwide to sign Gandhi's petition for
independence from demanding the Swaraj
British. Meeting Gandhi a month later at the
Gujarat Political Conference in Godhra, Patel
became the secretary of the Gujarat Sabha
11. POLITICAL INTEGRATION OF INDIA
This event formed the cornerstone of
Patel's popularity in the post-
independence era and even today, he is
remembered as the man who united
India. The Congress and senior British
officials considered Patel the best man
for achieving unification of the princely
