About Sardar Patel Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel the iron-man of India was born on 31st October, 1875, in a small village in Nadiad. His father Jhaverbhai Patel was a simple farmer and mother Laad Bai was a simple lady. From his childhood itself, Patel was a very hard-working individual. He used to help his father in farming and studied in a school at N. K. High school, Petlad. He passed his high-school examination in 1896. Throughout school he was a very wise and intelligent student. In spite of poor financial conditions his father decided to send him to college but Vallabhbhai refused.   4. 4.  Around three years he stayed at home, worked hard and prepared for the District Leaders examination, hence passing with very good percentage He got married to Jhaverbhai. In 1904, he got a baby daughter Maniben, and in 1905 his son Dahya was born. He sent his elder brother to England for higher studies in law. In 1908, Vitthalbhai returned as barrister and started practicing in Bombay. In 1909 his wife became seriously ill and was taken to Bombay for treatment Vallabhbhai had to go for the hearing of an urgent case and his wife died. He was stunned. He admitted his children in St. Marys school Bombay, and he left for England. He became a barrister and retuned to India in 1913. Falguni Sagar

Great wisdom and political foresight With great wisdom and political foresight, he consolidated the small kingdoms. He tackled the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Nawab of Junagarh who initially did not want to join India. There were a lot of problems connected with the reunion of the numerous states into India. Sardar Patels untiring efforts towards the unity of the country brought success.   6. 6.  Due to the achievement of this massive task, Sardar Patel got the title of Iron Man. ‘He is one of the prestigious leaders of the world who became immortal by uniting a scattered nation without any bloodshed. His strength of character, the sharpness of his mind, his organizing skills, and all his energy were offered up for achieving the freedom of India under Gandhis leadership, and after independence for Indias consolidation. Achievements Successfully led Kheda Satyagraha and Bardoli revolt against British government; elected Ahmadabads municipal president in 1922, 1924 and 1927; elected Congress President in 1931; were independent Indias first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister; played a key role in political integration of India; conferred Bharat Ratna in 1991. Sardar Patel was popularly known as Iron Man of India. He played a leading role in the Indian freedom struggle and became the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India. He is credited with achieving political integration of India. He persuaded the princes of 565 states of the impossibility of independence from the Indian republic, especially in the presence of growing opposition from their subjects.   9. 9. I Have been always influenced by following leadership skill Tenacity:- One the most inspiring strong point of Sardar Patel was his firmness to the goal decided to achieve. His strength of will was indeed incomparable. Invincibility: - After getting freedom, when whole world was thinking that India would be divided in thousands of parts, Sardar Patel was the person who proved them wrong and integrates India. Ability of strong and fast decision making skill: Before freedom or after freedom Sardar Patel was always know for his decision making.Influence & team building:- One of the most important characteristic of any leader is his influencing ability. Sardar Patel was full of this skill. For eg. Organized farmers of Kheda and Bardoli of Gujarat to hold mass- non-violent civil disobedience first time in India. At that point farmers were not united and were determined to do violent movement against British. Falguni Sagar
  10. 10. Conflict resolution: - Sardar Patel was also having great conflict resolution skill. There are so many examples in his life for it but the way he consolidated Indian Princely States that is really incomparable.Flexibility according to situation: - Sardar Patel’s most inspiring characteristic was adaptability with any kind of situation. When he was moving from one village to another to unite the India, he faced many hurdles, he went to jail many timesNever ending Winning Spirit: - I have read a book about Sardar Patel’s life, written by Rajmohan Gandhi, I was motivated by his never ending spirit, dedication to work, loyalty to country, always adapting with group and maintaining balance in group (specially in context of Jawaharlal Nehru). therere so many incidents during his childhood about how he used to go school, his tolerance power etc. which really motivated me.   11. 11. ConclusionThus, life of Sardar Patel is continuous flow of inspirations. Thisgreat leader was self-educated. He has nurtured many skills in hisself by his own. The above-mentioned qualities about him are mostdesired in a manager also because problems never come afterinforming us. I used to peep into the book of Sardar Patel- Adedicated life’ when I feel myself caught up in any very difficultproblem and I am always able to find the solution out of it. It wontbe exaggeration to say that after Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel is themost saluted leader in India. I salute this great Leader. Falguni Sagar
