Erica Desai is a healthcare worker based in Richmond, Virginia who loves to cook and bake in her spare time. She learned to cook from her family members when she was a teenager, and has been passionate about it ever since.
Elderly women who are poor and live alone or with dependent children find them vulnerable, powerless and are neglected by their family or grown up children. Many are too old or physically weak and thus unable to find work. They are forced to beg, and are often homeless. They worked hard all their lives, brought up children, and later took care of grandchildren. Now, at the last stage of their life, when they are helpless and lack even food and shelter, they deserve our help.

Kym’s expertise and thirst for maximizing love and respect for older adults while striving to improve their daily living has been all-consuming and her mission for over 10 years. This passion has been validated daily by seeing all those beautiful aging adults living happy, healthy lives to their fullest in their chosen environment.
Her knowledge and creativity has made her one of the most respected marketing professionals in the area of Senior Care in Los Angeles. With sustained occupancy of at least 94% between two established assisted living communities and a flagship Medicare only skilled nursing facility, Kym has proven herself a top producer. Cultivating new partnerships and realigning inactive or low-producing community resources has increased healthcare referrals by 58% excluding placement agencies.
When she’s not busy with her career, she enjoys her community involvement as a board member for the Greater Los Angeles Parkinson’s Disease Association, where she helped raise $326K. She averaged 45% growth annually in walkathon fund-raising as event chair since 2008. At home, you can find Kym volunteering at the local senior center or submerging herself in her church callings.
Kym has spent the last 6 years commuting in to the Beverly Hills and Hancock Park areas daily from her home in Simi Valley where she lives with her 20-year-old daughter. The 101 Freeway has won the ongoing challenge; she now spends most of her time assisting the elderly in the San Fernando Valley and Ventura County. Football, cooking and entertaining remain some of Kym’s favorite pastimes as well as jaunts to the beach in her convertible.
Consistent with her commitment to preserve the independence of older adults for as long as possible, she has helped hundreds of seniors and their families find a home where they could live out their lives with dignity and respect while building key healthcare partnerships throughout Los Angeles.

Moved by the plight of destitute single women, Seruds has taken up program of sponsoring elderly women on an urgent basis. Our volunteers and staff members conducted surveys and identified 120 destitute women who are above 60 year of age. These elderly women are widows or have been abandoned by their husbands. Some have children, but the children live apart and do not take care of their mothers. They do not have money for food, medical care and other basic necessities.

An effort to start a Summer School in the Pulaski-Lighthouse District on Erie's East Side. This would establish a beachhead for Sarah Reed to begin working with children on Erie's East Side after being on Erie West Side for four years. The success of the ARP Summer Program helped to lay the groundwork toward putting back the "soul" into the former St Ann's School built in 1925.
To date over $500,000 of improvements have been made to the building under Phase#1 ,new heating and cooling, IT Infrastructure upgrades, classroom equipment, technology. Once two new roofs are completed. Phase #2 begins to address a plethora of needs internally.
An impact report on our 2023 Summer & Math Program/STEAM Initiative of the accomplishments made possible through EITC donations for this program held every summer at our Sarah Reed Main Campus. Where we provide math, reading and STEAM skills to the children that attend.
A quick look at the beginning of the St Ann's Campus and how it fits into the Sarah Reed Childrens Center efforts to work with children with behavioral issues on Erie's East Side..Know as the Pulaski-Lighthouse District. Sarah Reed bought this school from the Diocese of Erie in 1986.Presently we have over 70 children enrolled and have helped over 86 over this 2023-2024 Academic Year.
We have initiated a Phase #1 improvement Plan for our St Ann's Campus in the Pulaski-Lighthouse District in the City of Erie. After a very successful Summer 2022 Program on the campus. We made an analysis of the necessary improvements we need to make for the students we educate at our St Ann's Campus. One of the first efforts was to upgrade the aging classroom furniture in 10 of our classrooms. We developed this Case Study in collaboration with School Specialty. This was one component of our $500,000 Phase #1effort to bring back the soul of the building that has a true history of being the site where many children have received an education in this school on Erie's East Side. www.sarahreed.org

Sarah A. Reed Children's Center was founded
in 1871 in Erie, Pennsylvania, by a group of 30
women interested in helping orphaned and
homeless children. Sarah A. Reed was an
original member of this group who founded
“The Association for Improving the Conditions
of the Poor, and a Home for the Friendless.”
Miss Reed, affectionately known as "Erie's
Grand Old Lady" during the early 1900s, served
as President of this organization for 45 years,
from 1889 until her death in 1934. Her
contributions to the agency were so substantial
that in 1935 the Center was renamed in her
honor.
Erie's Oldest Human Services Agency
Sarah A. Reed Children's Center has grown
significantly over the years, but the heart of the
organization and the mission that Sarah Reed
began back in 1871 are still alive and well. The
agency is proud to continue in Sarah's footsteps,
providing the necessary mental health services
and behavioral health programs that help 1,700
children and their families out of crisis each year
and onto a healthier, successful future.
For example, the agency's Parent-Child
Interaction Therapy gives families the guidance
and tools they need to successfully parent
children who display significantly disruptive or
oppositional behaviors. Sarah Reed also offers
a wide array of school-based and community-
based educational programs throughout Erie
County for students with mental health and
behavioral challenges, and its first- class
Residential Treatment Program provides 24-
hour intensive treatment, including: individual,
family, and group therapy; art therapy;
recreational therapy; medical care and

A Sanctuary®-Certified Organization
Sarah A. Reed Children's Center is one of the
few agencies in northwestern Pennsylvania that
is certified in the Sanctuary® Model of trauma-
informed care. This full-system approach
focuses on helping injured children recover from
the damaging effects of interpersonal trauma.
Because it is a full-system approach, effective
implementation of the Sanctuary® Model
requires extensive leadership involvement in the
process of change, as well as staff and client
involvement at every level of the process.
Plans for Expansion
There is an escalating demand among families
in Erie and throughout Pennsylvania for Sarah
Reed's programs and services. This year, the
agency is excited to expand and meet this
growing need. Plans are underway to build a
fifth residence hall on Sarah Reed's main
campus, which houses the 24-hour Residential
Treatment Program. In 2016, this program
served 69 children from across the state,
including the Erie, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and
Philadelphia region. The typical length of stay
for each child is 9-12 months, and the new 12-
bed residence hall will help an additional 20-25
children annually.
Sarah Reed will also be transforming the
existing athletic field at its Hamilton
Campus into the Sanctuary for Integrated
Health and Wellness Park. This state-of-the-art
park will be accessible to the community and is
designed to promote physical health,
mindfulness, therapeutic activities and
intellectual development.

Sarah A. Reed Children's Center is a respected
leader throughout Pennsylvania in the treatment
of children with severe emotional, mental health,
behavioral health and trauma-related challenges.
As it continues to celebrate 145 years of service,
the agency recognizes the generosity of its
donors, volunteers, staff and the entire Erie
community for the difference they continue to
make in the lives of children and families in need.
