Santa Rosa School District is a client of Southern
Management an ABM company, now operating as ABM.
Case Study
Santa Rosa K-12 School District
A Green Solution That Saves 47% on Trash Disposal Costs
Santa Rosa School District (SRSD)
is ranked #2 in the state of Florida
and received the highest level of
accreditation from SACS-CASI.
SRSD uses data-driven progress
monitoring that is reviewed daily,
identifying opportunities for educational
intervention early in the year.
CHALLENGE
SRSD’s Gulf Breeze K-12 schools
were looking for a way to reduce their
$66,000 a year trash disposal cost. The
city of Gulf Breeze mandates the use of
an approved disposal company whose
fees had gotten burdensome. Per the
city, the only other option was for the
schools to haul their own trash.
SOLUTION
After researching several disposal
scenarios, ABM provided an ingenious
trash disposal program designed
not only to reduce costs, but to also
introduce a robust recycling program to
the Gulf Breeze K-12 Schools.
ABM purchased an F-350 dually truck
and sourced two industrial compactors
to handle non-paper trash. ABM then
located and partnered with a local
recycling vendor to collect and pick up
the schools’ paper trash.
BENEFIT
The new trash disposal program cut
the schools’ trash disposal cost by
47%, to $35,000 a year. As an added
bonus, the schools are now recycling
close to 100% of their paper waste.
By thinking outside the box, ABM
drastically reduced trash disposal
costs for the Gulf Breeze schools.
Additionally, the schools now recycle
65 tons of paper each year.
