This document discusses women in leadership. It defines leadership and outlines key differences in how women and men lead. Women leaders are described as more assertive, persuasive, empathetic, and having stronger interpersonal skills than male leaders. However, society often rejects women as leaders because of gender biases and outdated social norms. The document suggests education as one way for women to overcome barriers to leadership positions and effect change.
In this evening workshop (part of the monthly Cooper Parlor event series) participants took a deeper look how the definition of leadership is changing, their individual leadership styles, and the gender and leadership dynamics in their own organizations. They then brainstormed new practices to help cultivate female and more "feminine" style leaders in their organizations. Created and facilitated by Teresa Brazen, Design Education Strategist, and Susan Dybbs, Managing Director, Interaction Design, at Cooper (www.Cooper.com).

When people talk about leadership, they mostly want to learn how to be good leaders at work. Leadership in the corporate context is one of the hottest topics in the world, and everyone wants to learn how to become a billionaire and be the best possible boss. However, leadership is not just limited to the work frontier; it extends to all of society. In fact, leadership began as a societal phenomenon much before it evolved into a professional one. In fact, many of the present-day leadership qualities that corporate and professional leaders aspire to are based on the social and political leaders of the yesteryears.
Human beings are social animals and living together in large groups naturally meant that people needed to adopt different roles and accomplish different groups. In order to give structure to society and help society grow and develop, people were naturally divided into leaders and followers. The leaders paved the way and moved from one frontier to another, directing the others, while the followers completed the tasks assigned to them and helped bring the changes about.

3. INTRODUCTION
More and more women are getting higher to the leadership dare, even in some of
the mainly male-dominated industries and organizations. It is noticed high
percentage of women attending in the workplace of starting their own business has
proved to men who own business that women can do both, be LEADERS, wives, and
mothers, therefore showing their male counterpart that women can actually do it
all. In this PowerPoint slide show women in the leadership will be outlined, as
well as the challenges they face. How women lead along with comparison to how
men lead, and a conclusion of women in leadership.
4. WHAT IS LEADERSHIP
A RELATIONSHIP THROUGH WHICH ONE PERSON INFLUENCES THE
BEHAVIOR OR ACTIONS OF OTHER PEOPLE.
A LEADER IS ONE WHO KNOWS THE WAY, GOES THE WAY, AND SHOWS THE
WAY.THE VERY ESSENCE OF A LEADER IS THAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE
VISION.
AN INDIVIDUAL WHO IS A SKILLFUL COMMUNIC ATOR, A MOTIVATOR, ONE
WHO TRANSLATES VISIONS INTO REALITY, ONE WHO PROVIDES
DIRECTION IN TIME OF C HANGE AND SOMEONE WHO IS WELL INFORMED.
5. WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP
Women leaders are more assertive and persuasive, have a stronger need
to get things done and more willing to take risks than male leaders.
Women leaders were found to be more empathic and flexible, as well as
stronger in interpersonal skills than their male counterparts.
Strong leadership starts with being able to pull together a group of
people who may not have everything in common and getting them to
buy into a vision of themselves as a collective group who can achieve
uncommon results
Women leaders are able to bring others around to their point
of view or alter their own point of view depending upon the
circumstances and information they uncover.
6. WHY SOCIETY REJECTS WOMEN AS LEADERS
Women are being rejected because of their own gender.
Women are too familiar of a man playing leader role.
Male believe that a w oman role is to take care home, children, and the
bedroom.
We live in a masculine world and women leadership has become a
significant topic.
Male and females feel that w omen are to emotional or indecisive.
This has being going on for hundreds of years. Today people are stuck
in the old ways of living and refuse to change.
People today takes bible scriptures and interpreted it as the male rule
and the w oman needs to be quiet and be submissive.
7. EFFECTING CHANGE IN WOMEN LEADERSHIP
Women work in many different fields such as; clerical, professions, own
their own business, joined military, professional sports, and service
industries.
Women work full and part time jobs.
Women are wives and mothers, struggling to meet the demands of both
their careers and families.
Women have become highly successful as providers for their families.
8. EDUCATION IS ONE OF THE KEY
Women began going to business school and earning their Master’s of
Business Administration degrees and, as a result, building on their
education and gaining work experience.
Females need to be armed with college degrees to be a contributor to
this century’s model of the family unit and in this time of “education
inflation” , the demand of higher education is growing at a staggering
rate.
Its hard for a w oman to be elevated to the top but with background
history of education will make it a little easier.
9. CONCLUSION
In my conclusion, you have learned the definitions of leadership,
rejections of w omen as a leader, and the challenges w omen has to face. I
want to encourage the women of today that whatever you want to do and
become, do it and do it w ell. W omen need to stay focus and not give up on
their dreams. Som etimes it takes for you yourself to motivate and pat
yourself on your own back. W omen face a lot of challenges today. It’s
hard for us to get the old ways out of our minds. We are stuck in the
past. W omen already were a good leader w hen they became a mother and a
wife to nurture their families. So we already were born with character-
istic of a leader. Our children and husbands looks up to us. Being a good
leader, you will also have to be a good follower as well.
