2. SAME-SEX MARRIAGE
â–¸ISSUE:
â–¸Same-sex couples are being discriminated against across the United States, simply
because of their sexual preferences. Same-sex couples were, and in some cases
still are, being denied the human rights.
â–¸RELEVANCE:
â–¸Over the past decade, America has been making continual progress with the
treatment and equality of same-sex couples. Within the past year, the Supreme
Court ruled that all same-sex couples could officially marry, regardless of the state in
which they resided. However, same-sex couples are still being discriminated against
by others among the community, regardless of the fact that they are recognized by
the state and nation. Same-sex marriage is a political and social issue across the
United States, as well as a religious issue to many.

â–¸Same-sex marriage can be defined as both a complex and
nuanced issue. It is nuanced because one is either for or
against same-sex couples and marriage, however it is
complex because of the reasoning behind one’s opinion
and stance on the issue.
