2. Salt was directed by Phillip Noyce and was released on the 18th August 2010.
3. The film Salt introduces the main character right at the beginning of the
opening sequence. It shows a close up of her with blood on her face, being
tortured by two men. She keeps telling them she isn't a spy but they
continue to torture her. Then the scene cuts to later on when the agents
exchange the spies. This then saves the girl who, even though her face is still
cut, appears strong and confident, beautiful and friendly. This is when they
introduce another main male character into the film. He appears confident
and intelligent because he has just rescued the female character. She
appears to be dependent on him, and this is a very stereotypical way to
portray characters.
4. The genre of the film is connoted through the actions at the beginning of the film. You
know instantly that this film is a crime thriller because they repeated ask the female
character if she is a spy. There is also silence at the beginning of the film, which builds
dramatic tension.
I think that this film ties in well with Toderovs theory of equilibrium. The
scene begins with the disturbance of the equilibrium, which makes it very
effective because it hooks the reader.
