Macro area: Chandni
Chowk
‘Chandni Chowk’ also known as the
‘moonlight square’ is located in the
main street of old Delhi opposite Red
Fort. Designed and established by
princess Jahanara, the bazaar has
several galis.
Chandni Chowk is an extremely busy
road with shops, schools, residences,
places of worship, old and new along
the road. This grand market marks as
a heritage.
2. Kinari Bazar
Kinari Bazar, a busy
market in Chandni
Chowk, is a grand one.
The availability is wide.
From wedding cards to
departmental stores,
from food stalls to
jewellery shops, from
residential areas to
tools, everything is
there with a wide
variety.
3. The Maliwara
Intersection
The intersection is located in the
Maliwara area which is 1.5km long. All
the shops in the area are registered
and is one of the most popular place
for shopping.
The intersection consists of shops of
saree, suits, jewellery and food shops.
Even after difficult transportation, it is
amongst the most busy areas in
Chandni Chowk.
4. Rajesh Pakore Wala
Rajesh Pakore Wala, a snacks corner, is my Micro area. The
shop was built by Mr. Ghasita Ram Pehelwan and is currently
being handled by his grandson Rajesh. The shop number is
1029 and the dimensions are: 4*6 square feet. They serve
fried delicacies and is very famous in that area. The shop was
recently issued in the newspaper ‘Dainik Jagran’. There are 4
workers in the main shop and 4 in the godown. The shop
opens at 6 in the morning till 9 at night. The highest footfall is
from 2 to 4 in the afternoon.
5. Design Direction and Design Proposal
Aim: 1. Increasing advertisements
2. Space arrangement
3. Hygiene problem
Objective: The main objective is to create a better space
and inserting shelves using the wasted space and a board
stating the important information. Also, mesh coverings for
the shelves will solve the hygiene problem.
