Feasibility Study - Private Healthcare Market Opportunities - Saudi ArabiaPeadar O'Sullivan
This feasibility study analyzes a proposal for Martinsen Mayer, a Dublin-based recruitment agency, to source healthcare professionals from Ireland and the UK for positions in the private healthcare sector of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The analysis finds that while the proposal aligns with Martinsen Mayer's strategy of expanding into new international markets, entering a new market also carries risks without local experience or partnerships. However, the large expected growth of the private healthcare sector in Saudi Arabia presents opportunities for Martinsen Mayer to gain market share and build experience if they proceed carefully and potentially collaborate with local partners.

Whitbread Plc faced new regulations in the beer industry in 1992 that limited growth opportunities. As a result, the company diversified into the leisure industry under CEO Dean Thomas. However, Thomas struggled to develop and communicate a clear strategic vision for the diverse business units, which operated independently. He also failed to address known problems in the restaurant division. Ultimately, Thomas realized the need for a strong, unifying vision and initiated a strategic change process, but he did not fully engage managers and employees, limiting its effectiveness.

Sustaining the HIV and AIDS Response in Grenada: Investment Case BriefHFG Project
The HIV/AIDS program in Grenada is at a turning point, facing both opportunities to expand and target its efforts and threats of decreasing funding. As its National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan awaits ratification, the country must consider whether and how to implement strategic priorities related to controlling and mitigating the effects of the epidemic. Critical decisions must be made about programming and budgeting for the HIV response in the coming years.
This brief provides analytic inputs to help Grenada develop an “investment case” for its HIV/AIDS program. The Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) have encouraged the small-island countries of the eastern Caribbean to develop HIV investment cases, which are reports that aim to help program leaders target investments on the interventions and populations where they will have maximum impact, given limited resources (UNAIDS 2012). The priorities and analysis outlined in this brief will also inform a multi-country regional application to the Global Fund for HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria.

Enabling Poor Rural People to Overcome Poverty Dr Lendy Spires
Agriculture can provide a robust pathway out of poverty, today and in the future, for many smallholder farmers and livestock producers. IFAD’s strategic framework for 2011-2015 is guiding our efforts towards realizing that future. IFAD prepared its fourth strategic framework in response to a global context characterized by persistent challenges and major changes. The challenges include massive rural poverty, and a high prevalence of food insecurity and hunger in some regions.
The changes include increasingly diverse rural livelihoods;
accelerating natural resource degradation and climate change;
growing economic importance of agriculture and rising demand for food, biofuels and other agricultural goods and services;
higher and more volatile food prices; and growing private-sector investment in agriculture.
As we move towards 2015, we continue to build on what we have learned about small-scale agriculture and rural poverty reduction in more than 30 years. At the programme and project level, this involves stepped-up efforts to:
• enhance environmental sustainability and resilience in small-scale agriculture
• promote win-win contractual arrangements to help small agricultural producers seize opportunities in agricultural value chains at lower risk
• support the development of technologies for sustainable intensification of small-scale agriculture
• increase the capacity of financial institutions to provide a broad range of inclusive services to poor rural people
• promote the capabilities of rural women and men, including young people
• capitalize on opportunities to use renewable energy sources, and promote low-cost technologies using local resources to provide energy. In terms of thematic engagement, IFAD continues to focus on:
• natural resources – land, water, energy and biodiversity .
• climate change adaptation
• improved agricultural technologies and effective production services
• a broad range of inclusive financial services
• integration of poor rural people within value chains
• rural enterprise development and non-farm employment opportunities
• technical and vocational skills development
• support to rural producers’ organizations.
Each of these areas addresses gender equality and social inclusion as cross-cutting themes, as well as household strategies to improve food security and nutrition. In delivering on strategic framework objectives, we continue to strive to improve quality and efficiency, strengthen our ability to work effectively with the private sector, step up our advocacy, and amplify the voices of poor rural women and men in decisions that affect their lives. IFAD Strategic Framework 2011-2015:

This report summarizes Botswana's experience outsourcing non-clinical services at public hospitals to private vendors. It provides context on Botswana's national privatization policy and timelines. It also describes capacity building workshops held for Ministry of Health and hospital staff on outsourcing best practices. Initial findings show that outsourcing represented a large portion of hospital budgets on average. Perceptions of service quality improved for cleaning, laundry, and security according to a staff survey. The use of service level agreements and improved contract management techniques led to better communication and oversight between hospitals and vendors. However, opportunities remain to strengthen governance and further empower women through outsourcing initiatives.

CHEMAY Treasury Retirement Phase of Super Submission FINAL February 2024.pdfHenry Tapper
This submission provides comments on supporting members to navigate retirement income. It notes that retirement planning is complex, with retirees needing to navigate government systems, legislation, and income sources. The submission outlines the multiple potential sources of retirement income for Australians, including the Age Pension, superannuation, non-super investments, home equity, and part-time work. It emphasizes that superannuation is not necessarily the dominant income source for many retirees in APRA-regulated funds. The submission stresses the need to consider all pillars of the retirement system and how different income streams may change over time when supporting retirees.
The report summarizes the findings of the Household Finance Committee on the state of Indian household finance. Some key findings include:
1. Indian households hold a large portion of their wealth in physical assets like gold and real estate, unlike households in other countries who hold more financial assets.
2. Mortgage penetration is low early in life for Indian households and only rises as they age, in contrast to an international hump-shaped pattern over the lifecycle.
3. Pension wealth makes a negligible contribution to household wealth for most Indian states. Combined with low insurance penetration, this leaves households vulnerable to risks later in life.
This document discusses priorities for a national strategy on financial literacy in Canada. It identifies key challenges to meeting the financial literacy needs of vulnerable groups and recommends solutions. The three main challenges are: 1) public policies that do not adequately incentivize or support positive financial behaviors for low-income Canadians, 2) mainstream financial products and services that do not meet the needs of vulnerable groups, and 3) reliance on unstable employment among vulnerable populations. The document recommends addressing these challenges through improved policies, tailored financial programs and services, and support for stable employment opportunities. It emphasizes integrating financial literacy with broader efforts to build financial wellbeing.

Initially, Hashoo Foundation estimated a production of 10,000 kgs (22,000 lbs) from the original 1,000 kgs (2,200 lbs) of certified buckwheat seeds distributed to the women farmers for cultivation. Five months later, the actual production was 13,000 kgs (28,600 lbs). This success was a result of the women farmers’ commitment and dedication.
Hashoo Foundation retained 1,200 kgs (2,640 lbs) of the buckwheat seeds collected to replicate the project in other areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and distributed the other 11,800 kgs (25,960 lbs) of buckwheat seeds to the 200 women farmers. The farmers are projected to earn an income of approximately PKRs. 2,950,000 (US $29,208) from the sale of their buckwheat yield at a rate of PKRs. 250 (US $2.27) per kg of buckwheat. This income will have an indirect impact on 1,400 of their family members.
The continued expansion of the buckwheat farming to other areas in Gilgit-Baltistan could significantly contribute to alleviating the poverty of these underprivileged communities which are usually neglected and get no attention from development agencies and local governments. There is no doubt that this project will provide the women living in these remote male-dominated societies an opportunity for improving their quality of life and breaking the vicious cycle of generational poverty.
Hashoo Foundation USA and Medical Bridges shipped a forty-foot ocean-freight container filled with life-saving medical supplies and rehabilitation equipment destined for Pakistan. The inventory has an inventory value of more than US $150,000. The depreciated inventory value is $91,350.53. The rehabilitation equipment enabled Umeed-e-Noor Center of Excellence for Care and Rehabilitation of Children with Special Needs to provide therapy to 300 children with multiple disabilities. many of whom have been abandoned by their families.

Updated Plan Bee Chitral Proposal to Empower 31 Women proposal 4-1-2017Hashoo Foundation USA
Project Objective
To contribute to women’s social and economic empowerment through honey bee farming training to increased their capacity and participation in Income Generation Activities (IGAs) to provide for themselves and their families, and enroll their children in school.
Update: Plan Bee Chitral is a partnership between Chapelwood Foundation, individual donors, Hashoo Foundation USA and Hashoo Foundation, implemented by Hashoo Foundation in Pakistan. As a result of this collaborating, we have increased our women empowering reach from 20 beekeepers to 31 beekeepers; productions kits from 20 to 31; and the number of beehives to 93.
Hashoo Foundation has been leading economic development and education projects to empower vulnerable communities for 29 years. A key project is the Plan Bee project, which trains rural women in honey bee farming and creates employment opportunities through honey sales. To date, over 1,100 women have been trained and 35 honey business groups have been created, some with their own brands. The project has improved the socio-economic status of local communities, especially women. Hashoo Foundation is exploring future strategies to further strengthen the business side of the project considering external factors.
The document provides an update on Hashoo Foundation's (HF) accomplishments in 2016. A restructuring of HF's core office and subsidiaries was completed, strengthening the organization. Several new team members were welcomed. Seven major projects were successfully implemented and two projects concluded in Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, and peri-urban Islamabad. The results achieved enhanced lives of underprivileged people. An obituary notes the passing of the Regional Program Manager of HF's Chitral office in a plane crash. Going forward, HF will continue growing partnerships and adapting systems to further progress.

A Guide to AI for Smarter Nonprofits - Dr. Cori Faklaris, UNC CharlotteCori Faklaris
Working with data is a challenge for many organizations. Nonprofits in particular may need to collect and analyze sensitive, incomplete, and/or biased historical data about people. In this talk, Dr. Cori Faklaris of UNC Charlotte provides an overview of current AI capabilities and weaknesses to consider when integrating current AI technologies into the data workflow. The talk is organized around three takeaways: (1) For better or sometimes worse, AI provides you with “infinite interns.” (2) Give people permission & guardrails to learn what works with these “interns” and what doesn’t. (3) Create a roadmap for adding in more AI to assist nonprofit work, along with strategies for bias mitigation.
Combined Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Vessel List.Christina Parmionova
The best available, up-to-date information on all fishing and related vessels that appear on the illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing vessel lists published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and related organisations. The aim of the site is to improve the effectiveness of the original IUU lists as a tool for a wide variety of stakeholders to better understand and combat illegal fishing and broader fisheries crime.
To date, the following regional organisations maintain or share lists of vessels that have been found to carry out or support IUU fishing within their own or adjacent convention areas and/or species of competence:
Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR)
Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT)
General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM)
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)
International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)
Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC)
Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO)
North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC)
North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC)
South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO)
South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO)
Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA)
Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC)
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List merges all these sources into one list that provides a single reference point to identify whether a vessel is currently IUU listed. Vessels that have been IUU listed in the past and subsequently delisted (for example because of a change in ownership, or because the vessel is no longer in service) are also retained on the site, so that the site contains a full historic record of IUU listed fishing vessels.
Unlike the IUU lists published on individual RFMO websites, which may update vessel details infrequently or not at all, the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is kept up to date with the best available information regarding changes to vessel identity, flag state, ownership, location, and operations.

1. INTRODUCTION
The Hashoo Group and Hashoo Foundation (HF) initiated the Sahara Fund Programme to
provide relief and rehabilitation to the bomb blast affectees of Islamabad Marriott Hotel, on
September 20, 2008, which killed 54 and injured at least 266 people. The Hashoo
Foundation and Hashoo Group implemented these relief and rehabilitation plans in
collaboration with government, non-government and international donors in 2008, soon after
the tragic incident providing emergency medical assistance to the blast affectees. The Sahara
Fund Programme was formally started in January 2009, aiming to provide financial
assistance for the families to ensure their basic needs. This programme continues to assist its
beneficiaries.
Under the Sahara Fund Programme, a mechanism for fund disbursement was developed to
provide medical, financial and educational assistance to 65 families since 2009. Each
family’s financial position was evaluated in order to provide the family members with the
same income level they had as before. For acquiring financial assistance, specific policies and
procedures were developed by the Social Welfare department of Hashoo Foundation. Based
on individual interviews with family members and a review of their dependents, distinct
groups were created accordingly to cater to their needs.

2. RELIEF AND REHABILITATION
The Hashoo Foundation (HF) in collaboration with Hashoo Group (HG) took the following
relief and rehabilitation measures immediately after the tragic incident:
1. All staff and outsiders, affected by the bomb blast were supported by the Foundation
in terms of medical treatment in government and private hospitals.
2. The Foundation provided transport to injured staff and outsiders from Islamabad to
their homes.
3. HF’s management recognized the fact that relief alone was not enough; there was a
need for an elaborate mechanism of support to help the survivors regain their lost
livelihoods. Based on this realization, a support system for the affected families was
developed to ensure these families met their basic needs.

5. DONATIONS
The generous contribution of local and international partners has made possible the
implementation of the rehabilitation plan for the affected families set by the Hashoo
Foundation. Marriott employees worldwide showed their care and concern and sought out
ways to help fellow employees and their families who were victims of the attack.
The Islamabad Marriott Assistance Fund was quickly established, while employees’
worldwide- mobilized creative fund-raising activities such as car washes, bake sales and book
sales or made individual contributions. Marriott International and The J. Willard and Alice S.
Marriott Foundation also made contributions to the Fund. The money raised was used to
assist the victims and their families with education, food, medical and social support as set
forth by the Hashoo Foundation.

9. ACHIEVEMENTS AND PROGRESS
- HF Social Welfare Programme (SWP) team had great success in securing donation of
PKR. 2 million from Pakistan Bail- ul- Mal for the beneficiaries of Sahara Fund during
2010-2011.
- Out of 65 families, 23 families have been phased out (18 medically recovered and 5
families have been supported for small scale business initiatives; these families are
successfully running their businesses.
- HF’s SWP and Monitoring, Evaluation and Research (MER) team carried out an
impact study of the program in 2012. The study revealed that 73% of the families were
female-headed whereas, 27% were male-headed families. The study also showed that
major part of the programme fund had been utilized on children’s education and food
ration for the family. Without the support of this programme it would have been really
hard for these families to continue their children’s education and feed them properly.

10. SUCCESS STORIES
HF provided a one-time support to establish home based employment to encourage families
to become self-sustained. If it was not for the support given by the Sahara Fund many
children would have had to leave school to earn menial wages to support their families. There
are excellent examples of success stories of beneficiaries who with the continued financial
support of the Foundation, had completed their education, found employment, established
small business, and now, financially self-sustained. Some interesting success stories are
given below.
I. Zeeshan Murtaza,
From Loss to Achievement
Zeeshan Murtaza, is the son of late
Murtaza-Uddin-Ahmed who was a shift
engineer at Marriott Islamabad.
A studious and hardworking child,
Zeeshan was awarded a Bronze medal
for securing 3rd position in Board of
Intermediate & Secondary Education.
Based on his performance, he was
granted full fee concession by Punjab
College of Commerce. After his father's
death, the family found it very difficult
to support Zeeshan's academic
aspirations. In 2010, Zeeshan managed
to complete his Master's degree in Business Administration from Quaid-e-Azam University,
Islamabad, through a 20% Scholarship and a contribution of 80% of his tuition fees from the
Sahara Fund Program.
Wanting to support his family as much as he could, Zeeshan started his professional career
with a two-month internship at Pakistan International Airlines' HR Department in year 2009.
Currently he is working in IT Company, Nayatel, as Senior Human Resource Executive.

II. Dreams and Aspirations
Bashir Wali Khan, a young Chitrali, was a dreamer. He had a dream to banish the haunting
woes of poverty from his family and especially empower his sister, Bibi Seeda, to become an
independent and capable woman. This was not a dream that could be easily achieved since he
belonged to the remote area of Bang, Upper Chitral (KPK), where female education is till
frowned upon by the strong traditionalist forces. Adding to it, a family of eleven, and being
the sole bread earner, his aim seemed imposible to achieve.
Bashir, however, had not learnt to cave-in to the difficulties that life was throwing at him. He
moved to Islamabad in search of better opportunity, started working as a restaurant cashier in
Islamabad Marriott Hotel and life became a lot more bearable for his family. It was the result
of this steady source of income that Bashir got married and was blessed with two beautiful
sons and a daughter.
On the fatal evening of September 20, 2008, when a deafening sound snatched away his life,
taking away all his aspirations. His family was devastated by an utter sense of hopelessness at
the loss of their sole supporter.
It was in these circumstances that Hashoo Foundation stepped in through the Sahara Fund.
His family was provided with monthly financial support to meet their household expenses,
and get their children educated in good schools. Bashir's widow was also provided computer
training.
His sister, Bibi Seeda, was supported by the Sahara Fund, for her Master's degree in
Education Planning & Management (EPM) from National University of Modern Languages
(NUML), Islamabad. She is currently working with a reputed organization in Islamabad.
At present, his elder daughter, a brilliant student, got merit based admission in class 8th in
the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School in Kuragh, Chitral.

his son, Aftab Mehmood. The Hashoo Group has always considered all its employees as
family. Keeping in view the financial problems and needs of struggling families, Hashoo
Foundation introduced the Sahara Fund Programme under which, families like Muhammad
Din have been provided with monthly financial
assistance since 2009. In order to become self-
sustainable and acquire financial independence,
Mr. Aftab Mehmood and his brother expressed
their desire to initiate their own general store. For
this purpose, Hashoo Foundation provided an amount of PKR. 90,000 (USD 983) to start
their grocery store named, Rana General Store located in Sadiqabad, Rawalpindi.

been previously studying.
10. CONCLUSION AND WAY FORWARD
The Sahara Fund Programme had been initiated by the donations received from different
donors, organizations and individuals, which helped out the smooth functioning and delivery
of the programme services to the affectees for the last 6 years. Hashoo Foundation’s team is
reviewing and analyzing the existing families, and planning to execute a mechanism for the
families during the course of time.

At present, the existing families and beneficiaries have been categorized into two divisions,
beneficiaries who need long term support and beneficiaries who need to be phased out
gradually. Beneficiaries who need long term support totally depend on the monthly financial
assistance from the Foundation in terms of food, children’s education and house rent.
Beneficiaries who need to be phased out can be made financially self-sustained through job
placement and establishment of small-scale businesses.
Since the received donation amount has been utilized during the last 6 years, therefore, funds
availability for the programme is a great challenge and the short fall is being managed
through HF core funding. Considering the families’ situation and vulnerability of the existing
families, their sustenance could be difficult without the monthly financial support from the
Foundation; funds shortages in future will surely affect the existing families.
According to the prevailing situation, roughly, there are 22 families who needs long term
support and 20 families who need to be phased out in short term gradually.
