Introduction:
SAGE is a new Student Action Group For
Enhancement at GCU, replacing the exist-
ing Education Committee.
The group comprises engaged students
such as School Officers, and is chaired by
the Vice President Education of the Stu-
dents’ Association.
SAGE sits alongside two other networks
within the University: LTQEN (Learning
Teaching Quality Enhancement Network)
and SEF (Student Experience Forum).
Members of these 3 networks volunteer to
participate in small working groups. These
groups have been able to explore themes
such as timetabling, student employability
on campus and e-submission, feedback
and assessment.

Project Examples:
Student Experience Summit
The Student Experience Summit is an annual
event at GCU where students and staff come
together to focus on enhancing the student
experience. This year the theme was
“Partnerships in practice – enhancing student
employability at GCU”. Members of SAGE
were part of the organising committee and co-
facilitated the event with staff.
Online Assessment, Feedback and Submission
This project invited SAGE members to contribute to the development of
guidelines for both staff and students at GCU in relation to online assess-
ment and feedback.
Development of Social Media Guidelines
Working alongside the Blended Learning Team, guidelines are also being
created to highlight key areas in relation to social media, including: How to
use social media safely, Managing your digital footprint and Using social me-
dia as a tool for learning.
Looking Forward:
Next year, we hope to develop SAGE by:
Providing training for SAGE members
Encouraging a wider range of students to get in-
volved in SAGE projects
Considering how to recognise and reward student
participation in SAGE projects
Increasing consultation on policy and practice
Student Consultation on GCU Behaviours Framework
(Values Project)
SAGE members delivered a student consultation on
the GCU Behaviours Framework, which aims to en-
sure a common understanding of the core University
values of Integrity, Creativity, Responsibility and Con-
fidence. This contributes to the University’s Common
Good mission.
Student Experience Framework (Student Facing Ver-
sion) Refresh
SAGE members are currently helping to refresh the
student-facing version of the Student Experience
Framework. The aim is to produce a clear partnership
agreement between staff and students to enhance
the student experience at GCU.
