Sabriye Tanberken was born blind in Germany in 1970 and studied Tibetan language and culture at university. She opened a school for the blind in Lhasa, Tibet, where blind people had not previously been able to attend school. She developed new methods for studying and created the first Tibetan Braille system. She has authored several books and continues to advocate for education for the blind around the world.

• She studied modern and classical Tibetan in combination
with Sociology and Philosophy.
• Opened her own school, she founded the Centre for the
Blind in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, to educate blind
people. Before, the blind had not been able to attend
school.
• She developed her own methods of studying the course of
studying.

4. • Raised money for the project by selling her
autobiography.
• Create the Tibetan Braille, in September 2002 the project
adopted the name Braille Without Borders.
• Sabriye Tenberken and her partner Paul Kronenberg also
started a new initiative in Trivandrum, Kerala, South of
India named kanthari.
• Is also the author of three books:

“Tashis neue Welt
“Das siebte Jahr” ("The seventh year")
