The Saadabad Palace complex was originally inhabited in the 19th century by Qajar monarchs and the royal family. Reza Shah lived there in the 1920s after expanding the compounds. His son, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, moved there in the 1970s. After the Iranian Revolution, the complex became a museum. The Green Palace was the first built in the complex during the Pahlavi dynasty. It served as Mohammad Reza's private residence where some private meetings were held before the Islamic Revolution. The building is called the Green Palace due to the color of its facade.
