category you chose.
-Answer the required questions as part of your
report and presentation

-Why did you choose this category?
Step 2: Specific topic, contribution, or invention selection:
-How does your topic, contribution or invention relate to science?
-What is its scientific influence today? What might it be in the future?
-If you would have been on the original research team for your topic as it
relates to science, what are some improvements you would implement?

EXAMPLE:
Art:
● Graphite pencil
● Why: Navigate their source of color easily and draw
easier
● Today: Basic tool almost every artist uses and allows
artists to shade, color, sketch, and outline
● Future: Act like an inspiration for future innovators to
create better, high quality drawing tools
Medicine
● Penicillin
● Why: Miracle drug, saving thousands of lives and
opening a new door to homeopathic remedies
● Today: Helps fight infection and save lives
● Future: May be more medicines stemmed from mold

● Why: Shows that organic beings are not the only ones
capable of a thought process
● Today: Perform many tasks humans cannot, with more

● Why: Crushed the stereotype of deaf men not being able to
compose music

● Future: Can become a template for aspiring musicians or
composers with disabilities

HOW TO GET STARTED:
1.) Register for the contest via Groopt (available
June 1).
2.) Get a FREE SCCLD library card (free to all
Cupertino residents/ CUSD students).
3.) Explore your interests and pick a specific topic.
4.) Start your research with SCCLD databases.
5.) Attend the Study Sessions.
6.) Compile final documents.
7.) Turn it in by August 1st, 2014 (midnight PDT)!
8.) Rejoice and celebrate.
