At its core, Data Governance (DG) is: managing data with guidance. This immediately provokes the question: Would you tolerate your data managed without guidance? (In all likelihood, your organization has been managing data without adequate guidance and this accounts for its current, less-than-optimal state.) This program provides a practical guide to implementing DG or recharging your existing program. It provides your organization with an understanding of what Data Governance functions are required and how they fit with other Data Management disciplines. Understanding these aspects is a necessary prerequisite to eliminate the ambiguity that often surrounds initial discussions and implement effective Data Governance/Stewardship programs that manage data in support of organizational strategy. Program learning objectives include:
• Understanding why Data Governance can be tricky for organizations due to data’s confounding characteristics
• Strategy No. 1: Keeping DG practically focused
• Strategy No. 2: DG must exist at the same level as HR
• Strategy No. 3: Gradually add ingredients

Business Value Metrics for Data GovernanceDATAVERSITY
As data professionals, we recognize and understand the need for data governance, focusing on data quality in particular. We have made progress in this area, as illustrated by the emergence of the Chief Data Officer role in recent years. However, in many organizations, the need for governance is still largely unrecognized, and remains very tough to sell internally. You may need some detailed information and metrics to demonstrate the business value. This session will focus on business justification for establishing a data governance framework, including:
Data classification
Data quality
Business value metrics (KPIs)
Webinar: Maximizing Your Potential with Data LeadershipDATAVERSITY
Data is everywhere in today’s businesses, and there are countless things for the data professional to do! It can be overwhelming to figure out what we should be doing now, tomorrow, and further down the road. Data Leadership helps us simplify, prioritize, and ultimately find the direction we need.
The value that comes from data can impact an organization in three fundamental ways: increasing revenues, decreasing costs, and managing risk. Data professionals are tasked to optimize data’s impact on these. But knowing our goals—versus how to best achieve them—are two very different things.
The Data Leadership Framework guides us in sorting out the dozens of choices to determine the best actions to take, no matter where we are in our data journey. Attend this DATAVERSITY webinar to start maximizing data value with Data Leadership!
Data-Ed Webinar: Data Governance StrategiesDATAVERSITY
Much like project team management and home improvement, Data Governance sounds a lot simpler than it actually is. In a nutshell, Data Governance is the process by which an organization delegates responsibility and exercises control over mission-critical data assets. In practice, though, Data Governance directs how all other Data Management functions are performed, meaning that much of your Data Management strategy’s capacity to function at all depends on your effectiveness in governing its implementation. Understanding these aspects of governance is necessary to eliminate the ambiguity that often surrounds effective Data Management and stewardship programs, since the goal of governance is to manage the data that supports organizational strategy.
This webinar will:
Illustrate what Data Governance functions are required for effective Data Management, how they fit with other Data Management disciplines, and why Data Governance can be tricky for many organizations
Help you develop a detailed vocabulary and set of narratives to facilitate understanding of your business objectives and imperatives that demand governance
Provide direction for selling Data Governance to organizational management as a specifically motivated initiative
Discuss foundational Data Governance concepts based on “The DAMA Guide to the Data Management Body of Knowledge” (DAMA DMBOK)
RWDG Slides: Three Approaches to Data StewardshipDATAVERSITY

This webinar provides practical strategies for gaining value from your MDM initiative, while at the same time assuring a solid architectural and governance foundation that will ensure long-term, enterprise-wide success.
RWDG: Measuring Data Governance PerformanceDATAVERSITY
There are two basic ways to measure the performance of a Data Governance program. The first way focuses on the acceptance of data governance into the organizational culture. The second way focuses on measuring the business value that comes from governing data. The first way is quicker and easier. The second way takes more effort and more time to measure. Both are important.
This month’s Real-World Data Governance webinar with Bob Seiner focuses of describing these two methods described above. In this webinar, Bob will discuss how to select the best approach to measuring the performance of a Data Governance program. Bob will also share tips and techniques for improving performance based on the methods.
In this webinar Bob will discuss:
Two primary ways for measuring Data Governance program performance
How to measure the acceptability of Data Governance
How to measure the business value gained from Data Governance
When and where to report performance measurements to management
Improving performance based on the selected metrics
Using Data Governance to Protect Sensitive DataDATAVERSITY
Many Data Governance programs start out by focusing on the protection of sensitive data. Improvements in protection of data require that people are held formally accountable for following the rules associated with appropriate handling of sensitive data. Communications and awareness of data classification and data handling processes become the focus of keeping data private.
In this month’s installment of the Real-World Data Governance webinar series, Bob Seiner will speak about how to focus your data governance program on protecting sensitive data. Bob will talk about the data governance roles and processes required to classify data and enforce the rules associated with protecting sensitive data. It may be less complicated than you think.

Selecting appropriate data sharing processes to govern
Incremental implementation to protect the entire organization
Measuring protection to demonstrate governance performance
RWDG Webinar: Agile Data Governance - How to Apply Governance to AgileDATAVERSITY
Agile development efforts and Data Governance efforts are at odds with each other. Even though they both have the sponsorship at the highest level of the organization, there is disconnect when it comes to understanding how the two disciplines interact. Supporters of both disciplines swear by their trade and leave little wiggle room when it comes to working together. Organizations want FAST and they require ACCURATE DATA. Organizations require both.
Bob Seiner will address Agile Data Governance in this month’s installment of the Real-World Data Governance webinar series. Agile efforts are typically corporate priority efforts. Data as an asset is an integral corporate priority. Both disciplines are here to stay to address rapidly changing business requirements and improved analytical and data protection capabilities. Organizations must address this separation and they must act quickly.
This webinar will focus on:
•Relating the Disciplines for Senior Leadership

The Data Model as a Data Governance ArtifactDATAVERSITY
Data Modelling lies at the core of many data management programs. The basic definition of data and the conceptual, logical and physical models can be used in many ways and benefit many people. Some of the uses of the Data Model may not be obvious or may not presently be followed by your organization. Find out why.
Join Bob Seiner for this installment of the Real-World Data Governance webinar series where he will discuss the use of the Data Model as an artifact of Data Governance. Bob will look at the data models as a way to effectively communicate along the path to better data definition, production and usage.
In this webinar, Bob will discuss:
•Applying DG Best Practices to Data Modelling
•The Data Model as an Effective Communications Tool
•Using Data Models to Improve Data Definition, Production and Use
•Appropriate Audiences for the Models
•The Relationship Between Data Governance and Data Modelling
The first step towards understanding what data assets mean for your organization is understanding what those assets mean for each other. Metadata—literally, data about data—is one of many data management disciplines inherent in good systems development, and is perhaps the most mislabeled and misunderstood out of the lot. Understanding metadata and its associated technologies as more than just straightforward technological tools can provide powerful insight, the efficiency of organizational practices, and can also enable you to combine more sophisticated data management techniques in support of larger and more complex business initiatives.
In this webinar, we will:
Illustrate how to leverage metadata in support of your business strategy
Discuss foundational metadata concepts based on the DAMA Guide to Data Management Book of Knowledge (DAMA DMBOK)
Enumerate guiding principles for and lessons previously learned from metadata and its practical uses
RWDG Slides: Corporate Data Governance - The CDO is the Data Governance ChiefDATAVERSITY
The CDO is a relatively new and evolving role. Many CDO job descriptions detail specific Data Governance responsibilities. Some CDO job descriptions read all-data-governance and all-the-time. It has become obvious. The CDO is the new chief of Data Governance.
In this Real-World Data Governance webinar, Bob Seiner and special guest Anthony Algmin will focus on the evolution of the Chief Data Officer role and associated responsibilities. Someone must lead Data Governance and the CDO is the obvious choice. Attend this webinar to learn why.
In this webinar, Bob will present:
• A Detailed CDO Job Description
• Why the CDO is the Data Governance Chief
• The Makeup of the Chief’s Tribe
• Lessons Learned from the CDO’s Office
• Suggestions for new and existing CDOs
If you define, produce, or use data as part of your job and you are held formally accountable for how you define, produce, and use the data, then you are a data steward. If that statement is true, then everybody is a data steward. Does this make your Data Governance program more complex?
Join Bob Seiner for this thought-provoking webinar that asks and answers the question, how can everybody be a data steward? His approach to Data Stewardship will at the same time make your program less invasive to deliver and add a touch of complexity when it is recognized that the governance of data involves everybody in the organization.
In this webinar, Bob will talk about:
- Defining the levels and roles of data stewards
- What the term “formalized accountability” means
- How to handle the complexity of everybody being a data steward
- The complete coverage that is deployed by this approach
- How to “get over” everybody being a data steward
Is a Data Governance Charter Necessary?DATAVERSITY
Many Data Governance programs require a Data Governance Charter before they get started. A tremendous amount of effort can go into the development and approval of the charter. Many organizations are not permitted to get started until their Data Governance charter is approved. The question is, why is a charter so important?
Join Bob Seiner and special guest Anne Buff for this month’s RWDG webinar where he will address Data Governance Charter requirements and share how to develop and gain approval for the charter.
There are different ways to connect people with data stewardship responsibilities. You can assign people to be data stewards, identify people as data stewards or recognize people as data stewards. These approaches vary in several ways.
Join Bob Seiner for this month’s installment of the RWDG webinar series where he will compare and contrast three distinct approaches to data stewardship. The approach you select and follow will heavily influence how data governance results will be achieved.
In this webinar Bob will discuss:
- Three approaches to data stewardship
- The influence of each approach on program results
- Factors to assist in the selection of the approach to follow
- Obstacles to being successful with each approach
- Benefits of following each approach
Master Data Management - Practical Strategies for Integrating into Your Data ...DATAVERSITY
Master Data Management (MDM) provides organizations with an accurate and comprehensive view of their business-critical data such as Customers, Products, Vendors, and more. While mastering these key data areas can be a complex task, the value of doing so can be tremendous – from real-time operational integration to data warehousing & analytic reporting.
In the webinar Bob will discuss:
Tips and techniques for classifying data and defining data handling rules
Delivering roles appropriate for protecting sensitive data
•Finding Common Ground between Agile and Data Governance
•Applying Data Governance to Agile Efforts

Bob will share examples of charters and describe how the need for the charter and the charters themselves differ from organization to organization.

Data Catalogs Are the Answer – What is the Question?DATAVERSITY
Organizations with governed metadata made available through their data catalog can answer questions their people have about the organization’s data. These organizations get more value from their data, protect their data better, gain improved ROI from data-centric projects and programs, and have more confidence in their most strategic data.
Join Bob Seiner for this lively webinar where he will talk about the value of a data catalog and how to build the use of the catalog into your stewards’ daily routines. Bob will share how the tool must be positioned for success and viewed as a must-have resource that is a steppingstone and catalyst to governed data across the organization.
Because every organization produces and propagates data as part of their day-to-day operations, data trends are becoming more and more important in the mainstream business world’s consciousness. For many organizations in various industries, though, comprehension of this development begins and ends with buzzwords: “Big Data,” “NoSQL,” “Data Scientist,” and so on. Few realize that all solutions to their business problems, regardless of platform or relevant technology, rely to a critical extent on the data model supporting them. As such, data modeling is not an optional task for an organization’s data effort, but rather a vital activity that facilitates the solutions driving your business. Since quality engineering/architecture work products do not happen accidentally, the more your organization depends on automation, the more important the data models driving the engineering and architecture activities of your organization. This webinar illustrates data modeling as a key activity upon which so much technology and business investment depends.
Specific learning objectives include:
- Understanding what types of challenges require data modeling to be part of the solution
- How automation requires standardization on derivable via data modeling techniques
- Why only a working partnership between data and the business can produce useful outcomes
Analytics play a critical role in supporting strategic business initiatives. Despite the obvious value to analytic professionals of providing the analytics for these initiatives, many executives question the economic return of analytics as well as data lakes, machine learning, master data management, and the like.
Technology professionals need to calculate and present business value in terms business executives can understand. Unfortunately, most IT professionals lack the knowledge required to develop comprehensive cost-benefit analyses and return on investment (ROI) measurements.
This session provides a framework to help technology professionals research, measure, and present the economic value of a proposed or existing analytics initiative, no matter the form that the business benefit arises. The session will provide practical advice about how to calculate ROI and the formulas, and how to collect the necessary information.
How a Semantic Layer Makes Data Mesh Work at ScaleDATAVERSITY
Data Mesh is a trending approach to building a decentralized data architecture by leveraging a domain-oriented, self-service design. However, the pure definition of Data Mesh lacks a center of excellence or central data team and doesn’t address the need for a common approach for sharing data products across teams. The semantic layer is emerging as a key component to supporting a Hub and Spoke style of organizing data teams by introducing data model sharing, collaboration, and distributed ownership controls.
This session will explain how data teams can define common models and definitions with a semantic layer to decentralize analytics product creation using a Hub and Spoke architecture.
Attend this session to learn about:
- The role of a Data Mesh in the modern cloud architecture.
- How a semantic layer can serve as the binding agent to support decentralization.
- How to drive self service with consistency and control.
Enterprise data literacy. A worthy objective? Certainly! A realistic goal? That remains to be seen. As companies consider investing in data literacy education, questions arise about its value and purpose. While the destination – having a data-fluent workforce – is attractive, we wonder how (and if) we can get there.
Kicking off this webinar series, we begin with a panel discussion to explore the landscape of literacy, including expert positions and results from focus groups:
- why it matters,
- what it means,
- what gets in the way,
- who needs it (and how much they need),
- what companies believe it will accomplish.
In this engaging discussion about literacy, we will set the stage for future webinars to answer specific questions and feature successful literacy efforts.
The Data Trifecta – Privacy, Security & Governance Race from Reactivity to Re...DATAVERSITY
Change is hard, especially in response to negative stimuli or what is perceived as negative stimuli. So organizations need to reframe how they think about data privacy, security and governance, treating them as value centers to 1) ensure enterprise data can flow where it needs to, 2) prevent – not just react – to internal and external threats, and 3) comply with data privacy and security regulations.
Working together, these roles can accelerate faster access to approved, relevant and higher quality data – and that means more successful use cases, faster speed to insights, and better business outcomes. However, both new information and tools are required to make the shift from defense to offense, reducing data drama while increasing its value.
Join us for this panel discussion with experts in these fields as they discuss:
- Recent research about where data privacy, security and governance stand
- The most valuable enterprise data use cases
- The common obstacles to data value creation
- New approaches to data privacy, security and governance
- Their advice on how to shift from a reactive to resilient mindset/culture/organization
You’ll be educated, entertained and inspired by this panel and their expertise in using the data trifecta to innovate more often, operate more efficiently, and differentiate more strategically.

It is a fascinating, explosive time for enterprise analytics.
It is from the position of analytics leadership that the enterprise mission will be executed and company leadership will emerge. The data professional is absolutely sitting on the performance of the company in this information economy and has an obligation to demonstrate the possibilities and originate the architecture, data, and projects that will deliver analytics. After all, no matter what business you’re in, you’re in the business of analytics.
The coming years will be full of big changes in enterprise analytics and data architecture. William will kick off the fifth year of the Advanced Analytics series with a discussion of the trends winning organizations should build into their plans, expectations, vision, and awareness now.
Too often I hear the question “Can you help me with our data strategy?” Unfortunately, for most, this is the wrong request because it focuses on the least valuable component: the data strategy itself. A more useful request is: “Can you help me apply data strategically?” Yes, at early maturity phases the process of developing strategic thinking about data is more important than the actual product! Trying to write a good (must less perfect) data strategy on the first attempt is generally not productive –particularly given the widespread acceptance of Mike Tyson’s truism: “Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.” This program refocuses efforts on learning how to iteratively improve the way data is strategically applied. This will permit data-based strategy components to keep up with agile, evolving organizational strategies. It also contributes to three primary organizational data goals. Learn how to improve the following:
- Your organization’s data
- The way your people use data
- The way your people use data to achieve your organizational strategy
This will help in ways never imagined. Data are your sole non-depletable, non-degradable, durable strategic assets, and they are pervasively shared across every organizational area. Addressing existing challenges programmatically includes overcoming necessary but insufficient prerequisites and developing a disciplined, repeatable means of improving business objectives. This process (based on the theory of constraints) is where the strategic data work really occurs as organizations identify prioritized areas where better assets, literacy, and support (data strategy components) can help an organization better achieve specific strategic objectives. Then the process becomes lather, rinse, and repeat. Several complementary concepts are also covered, including:
- A cohesive argument for why data strategy is necessary for effective data governance
- An overview of prerequisites for effective strategic use of data strategy, as well as common pitfalls
- A repeatable process for identifying and removing data constraints
- The importance of balancing business operation and innovation
Who Should Own Data Governance – IT or Business?DATAVERSITY
The question is asked all the time: “What part of the organization should own your Data Governance program?” The typical answers are “the business” and “IT (information technology).” Another answer to that question is “Yes.” The program must be owned and reside somewhere in the organization. You may ask yourself if there is a correct answer to the question.
Join this new RWDG webinar with Bob Seiner where Bob will answer the question that is the title of this webinar. Determining ownership of Data Governance is a vital first step. Figuring out the appropriate part of the organization to manage the program is an important second step. This webinar will help you address these questions and more.
In this session Bob will share:
- What is meant by “the business” when it comes to owning Data Governance
- Why some people say that Data Governance in IT is destined to fail
- Examples of IT positioned Data Governance success
- Considerations for answering the question in your organization
- The final answer to the question of who should own Data Governance
It is clear that Data Management best practices exist and so does a useful process for improving existing Data Management practices. The question arises: Since we understand the goal, how does one design a process for Data Management goal achievement? This program describes what must be done at the programmatic level to achieve better data use and a way to implement this as part of your data program. The approach combines DMBoK content and CMMI/DMM processes – permitting organizations with the opportunity to benefit from the best of both. It also permits organizations to understand:
- Their current Data Management practices
- Strengths that should be leveraged
- Remediation opportunities

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,

A Memorandum of Association (MOA) is a legal document that outlines the fundamental principles and objectives upon which a company operates. It serves as the company's charter or constitution and defines the scope of its activities. Here's a detailed note on the MOA:
Contents of Memorandum of Association:
Name Clause: This clause states the name of the company, which should end with words like "Limited" or "Ltd." for a public limited company and "Private Limited" or "Pvt. Ltd." for a private limited company.

Registered Office Clause: It specifies the location where the company's registered office is situated. This office is where all official communications and notices are sent.
Objective Clause: This clause delineates the main objectives for which the company is formed. It's important to define these objectives clearly, as the company cannot undertake activities beyond those mentioned in this clause.

Liability Clause: It outlines the extent of liability of the company's members. In the case of companies limited by shares, the liability of members is limited to the amount unpaid on their shares. For companies limited by guarantee, members' liability is limited to the amount they undertake to contribute if the company is wound up.

Capital Clause: This clause specifies the authorized capital of the company, i.e., the maximum amount of share capital the company is authorized to issue. It also mentions the division of this capital into shares and their respective nominal value.
Association Clause: It simply states that the subscribers wish to form a company and agree to become members of it, in accordance with the terms of the MOA.
Importance of Memorandum of Association:
Legal Requirement: The MOA is a legal requirement for the formation of a company. It must be filed with the Registrar of Companies during the incorporation process.
Constitutional Document: It serves as the company's constitutional document, defining its scope, powers, and limitations.
Protection of Members: It protects the interests of the company's members by clearly defining the objectives and limiting their liability.
External Communication: It provides clarity to external parties, such as investors, creditors, and regulatory authorities, regarding the company's objectives and powers.

Binding Authority: The company and its members are bound by the provisions of the MOA. Any action taken beyond its scope may be considered ultra vires (beyond the powers) of the company and therefore void.
Amendment of MOA:
While the MOA lays down the company's fundamental principles, it is not entirely immutable. It can be amended, but only under specific circumstances and in compliance with legal procedures. Amendments typically require shareholder
