Alzheimer Disease
Introduction
Alzheimer's disease tends to be a progressive, irreversible ailment that impacts the normal functioning of the brain slowly destroying the thinking and memory-related skills and as it progresses it limits the patient the ability to conduct simple tasks ("What Is Alzheimer's Disease?," 2020). Researchers suggest that approximately 6 million American citizens older than 65 years of age have dementia which is caused by Alzheimer's disease. In most patients, the symptoms of this condition begin to be identified when they are in their mid- the 60s. This condition is often ranked as one of the top ten causes of death in the United States, but following a recent investigation, the condition has climbed the ladder and it is currently ranked as the top five leading cause of death in the United States. Often the disease is categorized with cancer and heart disease as the main cause of death among the older population. This paper will focus on planning research that is focused on understanding Alzheimer's disease, its causes symptoms and its impact on the older population.
Problem identification
Alzheimer's disease tends to be the most common cause of dementia among the older population around the world. The condition impacts the normal functioning of the brain hence causing the loss of cognitive functioning such as reasoning, remembering and thinking. Also, it impacts behavioral abilities to the extent of the victim not being able to conduct various daily essential activities ("What Is Alzheimer's Disease?," 2020). The severity of the brain damage from the mildest stage where the normal function of a person is impact and it progresses to a most severe stage and the victim must be dependent on the people around him or her for basic activities related to daily living. The condition is most popular among the older population and its estimated that the condition has impacted about 6 million senior American citizens' normal function and also it is a leading cause of death among this population ("Alzheimer's Disease Fact Sheet," 2020).
Significance of the Problem to Nursing
With a significant population estimated to be victims of Alzheimer's disease in the United States, it is most likely that individuals in the nursing practice will encounter patients suffering from this condition either in their personal lives on in their careers. Thus, it is essential for the nurses to be able to understand and recognize the Alzheimer's Disease symptoms, treatment approaches, and options as well as learn how to effectively interact with this vulnerable population ("Update on Alzheimer’s: What Nurses Should Know," 2020).
To be able to provide quality health care services the nurse practitioner needs to understand the various vital components that support better working conditions .

focused on understanding Alzheimer's disease, its causes
symptoms and its impact on the older population.
Problem identification
Alzheimer's disease tends to be the most common cause
of dementia among the older population around the world. The
condition impacts the normal functioning of the brain hence
causing the loss of cognitive functioning such as reasoning,
remembering and thinking. Also, it impacts behavioral abilities
to the extent of the victim not being able to conduct various
daily essential activities ("What Is Alzheimer's Disease?,"
2020). The severity of the brain damage from the mildest stage
where the normal function of a person is impact and it
progresses to a most severe stage and the victim must be
dependent on the people around him or her for basic activities
related to daily living. The condition is most popular among the
older population and its estimated that the condition has
impacted about 6 million senior American citizens' normal
function and also it is a leading cause of death among this
population ("Alzheimer's Disease Fact Sheet," 2020).
Significance of the Problem to Nursing
With a significant population estimated to be victims of
Alzheimer's disease in the United States, it is most likely that
individuals in the nursing practice will encounter patients
suffering from this condition either in their personal lives on in
their careers. Thus, it is essential for the nurses to be able to
understand and recognize the Alzheimer's Disease symptoms,
treatment approaches, and options as well as learn how to
effectively interact with this vulnerable population ("Update on
Alzheimer’s: What Nurses Should Know," 2020).
To be able to provide quality health care services the
nurse practitioner needs to understand the various vital
components that support better working conditions with the
patient. The nurse should emphasize clear communication and
individualized care, meaning that he or she must develop clear
instructions and communication approaches that are adaptive to
3. the patient's needs. Also, it essential for the nurse to understand
the emotion behind the patient’s behavior or communication.
Additionally, behavioral activities that are related to
Alzheimer's Disease may also jeopardize the safety of the
patient thus the nurse practitioner needs to develop strategies
that ensure the safety of the patient is not at risk. Moreover, the
nurse practitioners need to understand that the patient’s
behavioral activities are not personal ("Update on Alzheimer’s:
What Nurses Should Know," 2020). Thus, they need to develop
various strategies of working with Alzheimer's Disease patients
such as written reminders, engaging the patient in activities,
distraction, redirection and providing the patient with the
needed assistance. In addition, it is the duty of the nurse to
ensure that the patient’s family is provided with the required
support because it tends to be an emotional experience that may
turn to be a crisis if it is not addressed appropriately. Also,
essential for the nurse to be mindful of the progression of the
condition while caring for the patient and his or her family as
well as learn to work holistically. Through the provision of
quality care and informed understanding of the condition may
generate a positive relationship with the patients and their
families hence positively improving the condition.
Purpose of the Research
The main purpose of the research is to attain an in-depth
understanding of Alzheimer's Disease, its causes, its impact on
human health and the essential care required to effectively
improve the condition. For instance, being a progressive and
irreversible ailment, the research will provide the required
information regarding how the condition advances from mild
memory-related issues to severe brain damage. Also, a better
understanding of why the progression of the condition varies
with every patient will be attained through the research. Often
the condition may progress for about 20years and the victim
patient may live an average of about ten years after being
diagnosed with the condition. Additionally, the research will aid
with information on the various treatment approaches or
4. maintenance strategies for the condition ("Alzheimer's Disease
Fact Sheet," 2020).Also, the research will improve the
understanding of why no specific factor causes the condition but
the condition is often linked to age advancement, family
history, and a particular protein known as apolipoprotein. Other
related considerations to the ailment are education,
environment, diet, as well as viral influences.
Research Questions
1. Why is Alzheimer Disease ranked among the highest cause of
death among the older population?
2. What are the various approaches are used by the nurse
practitioner to ensure the condition does not get severe and out
of hand?
Master’s Essentials
Alzheimer's Disease is a leading cause of dementia and
death among the older population. Also, there is no specific
cause of the ailment as well as the condition has no cure.
Additionally, the diagnosis of the condition may only be
attained through an examination of the brain tissue during an
autopsy. Additionally, the probable diagnosis may be attained
through a medical history, neuropsychological and medical
testing, and brain scans. However, the continuum of Alzheimer's
Disease may include mild symptoms, moderate symptoms and
severe symptoms ("Alzheimer's Disease Fact Sheet," 2020). A
patient with mild symptoms tends to demonstrate memory loss,
inability to learn new things, tends to be unorganized, limited
attention span. On the other hand, a patient who is in his or her
moderate stage he or she tends to display noticeable behavioral
changes, inability to identify other people, getting lost in a
familiar environment, has poor judgment, and experiences sleep
disruptions. Lastly, when a patient is in the severe stage he or
she tends to experience the inability to recognize him or herself
as well as other people, he or she has an incoherent speech, has
repetitive behavior, weight loss and incontinence as well as
difficulty swallowing. Nurses need to develop various effective
care strategies to ensure that the patient’s AD condition does
5. not progress into a more severe stage.

ASSIGNMENT 1

Assignment 1
Company Description and SWOT Analysis
Name
BUS 599 – Strategic Management
University
Professor
Date
6. Company Description
The Frank Beverage Group is named because of the
significant meaning. The reasoning is the fact that the products
being produced by the company will firstly be as advertised.
The majority of companies today state that specific compounds
are found in their products. This can be demonstrated by the
recent class-action lawsuit that was filed against the giant
beverage companies in the U.S. Namely, Coca-Cola Co.; the
company failed to appreciate the science in their products hence
why they were sued (Shemwell, 2016). With Frank Beverage
Group, the objective of the naming is to ensure the client that
the products being sold are “frankly” as advertised.
Additionally, the name was selected because numerous beverage
companies today barely listen to the wants and needs of the
people with most of their products.
After appreciating the reasoning for the company’s
name, it is important to address the products that will be sold.
Today, more people are switching to healthy behaviors; this is
demonstrated by reduced tendencies to consume carbonated
drinks. With an increased preference for juices, the company
will focus the majority of its production with no sugar added
juices of all flavors available.
Mission Statement
The mission statement guidelines to the company to
focus and define the business concept for at least the next few
years (Abrams, 2014). The expectations of the company will be
enforced by its mission statement, which will be “the Non-
Alcoholic beverage distributor of choice by surpassing the
expectations of the consumers, suppliers, and workforce.” When
the mission statement is analyzed, it is noteworthy that the
company has already established its production goals and
expectations. Firstly, the company will be producing no added
sugar fruit juice. Secondly, the company will concern the
standard about the quality of production because the company
7. realizes that customer care is important in a competitive market
to become successful. Finally, the employees are assured
appropriate working conditions. By properly adhering to their
needs the company will be able to sustain continuous production
with reduced expenses.
Trends
In addressing the non-alcoholic beverage industry at the current
rate of growth, economists assume that by 2024, the industry
will be worth 1252.54 billion (Prnewswire, 2019). This figure
will be registered by a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth) of
approximately 5%. These figures were attained during the focus
period of 2019-2024 (Prnewswire, 2019). When this information
is redressed, it identifies the increased demand for beverages
that supplement their health. This is ensuring the no sugar
added juice would be flexible enough within the market trends.
Strategic Position
The best strategic position that the company will apply during
its initial stages in the market is the customer perception factor.
The company will continuously review the customer's
satisfaction and modify the new product line to meet the
customer’s preferences. The price basis would be reasonable,
and there is a customer service to take care and review the
customer group throughout their consumption. Also, the
company keeps concentrating on the product’s quality as
advertising, and assure stating the direct ingredient’s label on
the products. Additionally, the company appreciates having a
local market because it would have more opportunities to
develop and more focused market. The cost for the newer
business is limited which the distribution of the product would
be cheaper for serving customers in a local market.
Distribution Channels
It is considering that selling the product directly to the
consumer may seem like the most advisable action. Therefore, it
will rely on distribution channels such as
supermarkets/hypermarkets, food and drinking places,
convenient stores, and vending machines. Selling in the
8. distribution mentioned before is an effective way to reach the
customer, and it’s not necessary for requiring advanced
technology. Additionally, online is another channel that directly
connects to the customers without intermediaries (Abrams,
2014), which in the past, if a person has to buy the beverages,
they have to visit the stores. The online channel gives more
choice to the customers and assists them in convenient
consumption. Also, it opens up more opportunities to increase
the company’s sales.
Risks
It should be appreciated that the company may be successful by
always considering the opinion of the consumers, so it will
experience some risks because of the varieties of multicultural
preferences and different dietary styles. Another risk would be a
financial risk, which including when starting the business and
as the company is growing. Those issues may be faced with
challenges in debt capital for the business. Moreover, there is a
competitive risk that is a significant situation because of the
market changing. The accessibility of new competitors may
create their products and services more effectively (Abrams,
2014). Including the competitors which already exist in the
market, the company has to be aware and thoroughly prepare the
strategies to back up the risk that might happen from other
competitor’s action.
SWOT Analysis
Strengths: The company’s main strength is the consumer
demand for no sugar added fruit juice with health supplements
included. This will allow for the development of more company
unique products. Additionally, the market is highly segmented,
allowing for healthy development and competition (Kim &
Zheng, 2017). Finally, there is a demand for no sugar added
drinks in other continental markets such as that of Asia offering
9. the company supply demand.
Weaknesses: The main weakness that the company may face is
the business risks as the products are highly specialized to
appease consumers to purchase them. There are a variety of
choices of drink in the non-alcoholic beverage industry.
Additionally, the ability to maintain such specialized production
can cause the company to spend high costs on the product and
employees.
Opportunities: The opportunities present in this market are
ever-increasing as more markets make the change to have health
supplements such as vitamins and other chemicals (Kim &
Zheng, 2017). The company still maintains the concept that no
sugar added product in the different kinds of health
supplements. The lifestyle of customers has changed in a
convenient way, and they tend to use more technology to shop.
Putting the advertisement into the social media make more
change to get to the customers in this century.
Threats: The main threat the company may face is competition
because there are numerous companies that present the same
kind of products to the non-alcoholic beverage industry.
Consumer preferences can cause the company to lose sales
affecting revenue overall affecting the company. As a result, the
company will continuously maintain the qualities of their
products and take care of the customers to defend the
competitors. Plus, brand loyalty is also essential in this
industry. Keeping consumer loyalty will be one of the best ways
to maintain sales and income.

Worth 100 points
In this assignment, you will create a revised company
description and mission statement based on the feedback you
17. received in the Week 1 discussion. Then, you will conduct a
SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunity, and threat) analysis for
the type of beverage you have selected and for your company.
As you work on the assignment, consider why you have chosen
one type of non-alcoholic beverage over another and the reasons
for that choice. As you complete your SWOT analysis, be sure
to include external factors such as industry/market trends and
competition, and internal factors such as your capabilities or
abilities to reach certain market segments.
Write a 3–5-page paper in which you do the following:
1. Create your revised Non-Alcoholic beverage (NAB) company
name and explain the name’s significance to you. Describe a
NAB that you would produce and sell.
2. Develop your revised company’s mission statement and
provide a rationale for its components.
· Hints: Use the Statement of Mission template on pages 72–73
of the course textbook, Successful Business Plan, to aid your
development.
· Extract appropriate information from the NAB Company
Portfolio, where applicable. You should fill in other required
items in the template using your personal preferences.
3. Describe the trends in the non-alcoholic beverage industry,
especially the specific type of beverage category you have
chosen.
· Hints: Research and outline beverage industry trends.
Consider the size and growth rate of the industry overall and the
specific beverage type you have chosen. Use the worksheet in
the course text (p. 88 | Past and Future Growth of Your
Industry) to help you project the future growth rate. Consider
the use of industry associations and search engines to find
reliable and recent data.
· Choose one strategic position from the course text (pp. 142–
143) that you believe is the best strategic position for your
company. Explain the approach you will use to implement this
strategic position in order to distinguish your beverage from
18. other non-alcoholic beverages.
· Provide an overview of your company’s distribution channels.
Explain the manner in which your product will reach end users.
Provide a rationale for your chosen method.
· Hints: For example, will you sell your beverage in grocery
stores, restaurants, or sports venues? If so, describe the types of
resellers and distributors who will sell to resellers and fulfill
their orders. If you are attempting to sell directly to consumers,
for example, online via a monthly subscription, how will you
manage warehousing/fulfillment/shipping?
· Outline at least three types of risks (including any regulatory
risks) that your business faces. Describe your company’s plan to
mitigate such risk.
· Hints: You may refer to the types of risk listed in the course
text (pp. 148–149) as well as any risks not listed in the text.
Regulation weighs more heavily on beverage and food
businesses than many other types of companies, so be certain to
consider any regulatory risks your type of beverage faces. For
example, what kind of regulation and/or risks are you likely to
face if you make health claims about your beverage?
· Develop a SWOT analysis for your NAB company using the
SWOT matrix worksheet in the course text (p. 153 | SWOT:
Strengths/Weaknesses/Opportunities/Threats).
· Hints: What are your company’s likely strengths? Have you
chosen a beverage segment that is growing and lacks an
entrenched competitor? Are you in a niche market that has great
potential? What are the strengths that you and other team
members bring to your company? Do you or other team
members have previous experience in the food and beverage
industry?
· Hints: What are your company’s likely weaknesses? Is the
competition in your industry segment entrenched? Is your own
management team inexperienced? Will it be challenging to
actually produce your product and maintain quality?
· Hints: What are your company’s opportunities? Does your
segment have more demand than supply? Have larger
19. corporations stopped serving smaller or niche markets that you
could enter? Is a new market emerging because of
demographics, immigration, and changing tastes?
· Hints: What are your company’s threats? Is there a clear
market leader that will be hard and expensive to displace? Are
downward-pricing pressures in the segment making profit
margins slim? Are there little or no barriers to entry for new
competitors? if you have a novel idea that succeeds, can the
competition easily enter your market? If you have a global
aspect to your company, do factors such as currency
fluctuations, political instability, offshoring, or outsourcing
pose threats?
· Format your assignment according to these formatting
requirements:
a. Cite the resources you have used to complete the
exercise. Note: There is no minimum requirement for the
number of resources used in the exercise.
b. The paper must be typed, double-spaced, using Times New
Roman font (size 12), with 1-inch margins on all sides;
references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check
