This document provides rules for performing basic arithmetic operations on integers. When adding integers with the same sign, the numbers are added and the sum takes the common sign. When adding integers with different signs, the signs are disregarded and the greater number's sign is assigned to the answer. For subtraction, the additive inverse of the subtrahend is added to the minuend. Multiplying a positive and negative integer or dividing a positive by a negative yields a negative result, while multiplying or dividing two positives or two negatives yields a positive result.
