This document provides a review and geological classification of ruby deposits. It discusses how rubies form in various geological environments, including metamorphic belts and alkaline basaltic volcanism. Ruby deposits are classified as either primary, containing rubies in the rocks where they crystallized, or secondary, containing rubies eroded from primary deposits. Primary deposits are further divided into two types - magmatic-related deposits containing ruby xenocrysts in igneous rocks, and metamorphic-related deposits formed in metamorphic environments. Secondary ruby deposits are sedimentary placers formed by erosion of primary deposits. The value of rubies depends on factors like origin, treatments, and size rather than just weight.
