1) Passive acoustic recordings were used to examine interactions between Northern Spotted Owls and Barred Owls in Oregon by deploying acoustic monitoring equipment at five Spotted Owl sites. 2) Preliminary results found Spotted Owl nesting at four of the five sites in 2014, but no nesting in 2015, while equipment issues and weather posed challenges to reliable data collection. 3) Next steps include continuing to develop automated call recognizers, establishing an analysis cut-off date, analyzing the acoustic data, and potential publication of results.
